Well, you are right and I think S7 is to blame for that. They use to be "Death to platform toys" and now they host custom show every other weeks. Complet turnover. Some awesome things comes out of it from time to time though.
Devilman RxH was shat on for so long that people started painting over them. Then you couldn't find them and the prices went up....
Yes, we all know the one tragic example of the Devilman Evil. That was one figure, like, thirty years ago now
This is my only problem with most custom attitudes. It seems there is no real love for the toys. Its just any toy they can paint. That said I could care less what people do with something the purchase. I just thought the attitude deserved a there you go boy kind of sentiment.
Thats true, instead we should be bitching how nothing shows up for sale on the RxH US site instead...
They just had a sale, with some promise for the future, so I've got at least two weeks before I start complaining again. In all seriousness, is the anti-custom crowd really worried that customizers are going to 'use up' all the toys? In the case of Secret Base, I'm surprised we don't see more customs to try to fill in some of the gap left by the hugely slowed down production release schedule.
I'd rather have empty space on my shelf. Again, in all seriousness . . . older Secret Base (even the less desirable stuff) is fast drying up on YJA and fleaBay (other than the tools trying to sell at the same prices as 2-3 years back!)
This is very true, as a collector only less than 3 years in and on a budget, slow and steady will not win the race. I would have loved to add said custom in it's original form and both the bees pictured above, especially at those prices. Living in the Mid West I don't have the luxury of walking into Super7 every time there's a big sale.
Nice...a little bit of elbow grease pays off while others just wait for things to get handed to them.
Off topic, but If anyone ever goes back into S7 and there are more of those 50/50 bees , or pretty much any NIB bee for 10 bucks. Pick one up for me. I'll get you back. I just really started appreciating the bee sculpt recently and would love some cheap fillers.
I don't do +1's bert, but the sense of entitlement these days astounds and annoys the shit out of me.
Jeremy's on the fence (and he's a friend of Drils) http://www.jeremyriad.com/blog/editoria ... umber-one/ Daniel Goffin weighs in: http://reducedfiguration.com/post/35800 ... izing-toys
People can do what they want, i like vinyl toys to look like they are made of vinyl. With this kind of textured paint application the toys could be plaster or feemo or styrofoam and you couldn't tell. Its very well made, just not pleasing to my eye in the context of vinyl sculpture viewing and appreciation.
One thing that's amazing is that there have been other toys that people are wanting that have been painted over and no one has said a thing about them.
