Is Bemon a mountain that had a toxic factory on top of it and came alive as a monster? Now don't flame me to bad here but at first I thought something a little more disgusting. Perhaps a pile of something or other, lol. Now I don't mean that as an insult, I just thought maybe he was a dookie monster. Something about him kept me coming back to look more. Now I see a mountain with smoke stacks in his head and waste pipes in his back. Are those arms pipes, did they spew toxic waste? Sorry for the Fresh Meat question but a search turned up nothing but sales and wanted threads and the fact he was originally "pollution monster" in Japanese but named Bemon by the manufacturer. Don't know if that is accurate or not. It would seem to go along with my thoughts but I was just wondering if there was any more info.
afaik: kougai kaiju is his actual name, Bemon is the maker's/company name I think what it is or made up of is open to your interpretation because information on these is scarce and shrouded in mystery. obviously the maker has an affection for old US hardcore and punk since he has ripped off BOLD & revelation records on the shirts, Misfits iconography etc... he is soft vinyl hardcore.
I think the one shown on that header is the Smogun by Hukkukudo, judging by the multiple smokestacks on the front of the head, rather than primarily on the back. I wonder whether Bemon was inspired by this Smogun, or vice versa.
Smogun (mosugon?) is to the right of the Bemon in that header. So it's Mosugon 1 and 2 from what I remember. The one that Bemon ripped never got made so Honda decided to just crank his own out. Or rather that's the tale I remember w/o looking anything up.
That's interesting. In that case, I'm glad Bemon jacked the character. His version looks way more cynical than the other Mosugon, which I think is appropriate for a pollution monster.
Thanks for all the info guys! I don't know why this character keeps me so interested. I thought maybe I was missing some old Asian Godzilla type movie that he was taken from. I think it's cooler that he was taken of a header though. Now I just have to resist the temptation to buy one lol.
These things are overrated and overhyped. Anyway the 7th cka anniversary kougai kaiju is the closet to that original header. It's definitely one of my top 3 favorites. Pic fro plover
His arms look like tube worms that live around deep sea vents. So if i get this right somebody liked a drawing on a header card and went ahead and made a sculpture of it for production just like that without asking ? If thats allright by people around here then i've got a few COOP woodblocks i'd like to sell ...
havingmysay was nice enough to school me on the Bemon story. i really dig the smoke stacks that come out of his head and back. sick!
I never really got in to these, mainly cause the price is way out of my budget, but that header artwork is amazing. I totally agree that the last release shown is very true to the 'original' image. One of the best ones I have seen I think.
The anniversary bemon is definitely the closest to that header card by far. I dont own one, but when one does show his face Id be all over him like white on rice. Everyday I hope one comes up for sale and it still has yet to show his ugly mug. If theres anyone out there with the anniversary edition that they dont want leme know, im your man!
