holy cats. now that's what i'm talking about. blew away most of the fourth season and most of the show before it.

i'll tell you what gus sees in jesse.. himself. i saw echoes of walt/jesse in that meeting with the cartel. gus is a very different man with an interesting (if still unclear) history. it's nice to see inside his head after all this time.

fantastic acting from dean norris in the car. sometimes i think the panic attacks and cockiness early on were just a sidenote to the character. he really is just a stalwart detective.

the next three episode titles are "bug," "salud" and "crawlspace." juicy. really can't wait for all of these arcs to unfold.

I'm watching online today! Does Skylar die?!! Wait don't tell me I can't watch it till I get home from work around 10:30 am.

EDIT: OK Watched it. Interesting. I wonder what the backstory on Gus and his old partner was? Either they were lovers (something I've long suspected with Gus) or maybe they were really half brothers or childhood friends. It does explain Gus' coldness and methodical approach to things. He's turned emotion off completely. Is Jesse turning on Walt?

I don't think they where lovers, I don't think they where brothers either. To me, I think they where just good friends and turned business partners. From that small scene I do think they had a long term bond though.

As for everyone else, I'm seeing it turn into an everyman for himself. Although, I don't see Jessie and Walt separating in the long run. There is just something about this odd paring that will be forever.

I like Gus more now. with his back story, it's as if his story turns into one of revenge against the all mighty and evil Cartel. years of planning and it's pay back time...

who knows, Walt learns all this and really partners with Gus and Mike against the Cartel? But Gus gets killed and Walt takes over the entire operation.

I've been a fan of Giancarlo Esposito since "Do the Right Thing" and while I enjoy the bipolar way he plays Gus, I haven't really gotten to see him cut loose until last night's episode. Great stuff. I think his back story gave great insight into how he conducts business in the present. I'm betting that the scholarship story with Gale checks out. It was named after his old partner if I recall. I know people have given this season some shit for being slow but I think they're doing a great job of building up tension. Love it!

Props to Jessie for still playing RAGE. No props for his rhinestone T-shirt...

At least Jesse is starting to look like he doesn't shop at Hot Topic anymore. I like the leather jacket he's been sporting.

I really like the pacing and structure of the episode. Probably the best of the season. I've always appreciated the direction but I thought that this episode was incredibly well written. Top Notch.

I've always liked Gus but felt that this episode humanized him. I love that Hank startled him and that he was aggressive and showed anger in the flashback..esp...when his 'hermano/friend/possible lover" died. Yes..he's intelligent and a killer but I liked the parallel that's been drawn..especially with regard to Walt. Both are capable of destruction but also they are capable of much more.

This show is anything but predictable but sometimes I think we are witnessing the slow evolution of a kingpin. This show started out differently..but are we slowly watching the evolution and rise of a criminal mastermind aka Walt. Sometimes I think we are witnessing the origin of a major drug kingpin (aka Walt)....from bumbling chem-professor to fullblown drug lord.

aaron paul was absolutely brilliant in this episode....
-the scene talking to mike while scrubbing the spots on the floor
-the scene at the dinner table with gus (i was really proud of jesse)
-and then the final scene of course, his dialog before the fight was amazing

    other awesomeness.....
-the cartel sniper blowing the henchman's head off, then gus charging out "on some terminator shit"
-skylar showing up at the audit, wow did not see that one coming! well played, and was quite comical

looking forward to seeing how the whole mexico trip goes down, gus has something up his sleeve

i just can't believe how great this show is, keeps me wanting more like a fiend!
and i usually don't even watch tv but this show is like a little movie for me every week

Walt's a pussy. Each week I lose more an more respect for his character. The way he begs to Gus' monitoring cameras, never snaps back at Mike, and let's little Jesse best him in a fight. He needs to grow a pair and man up.

Loved Skylar's ditz routine with the IRS guys. I know most of you hate her but that lady has brains and considerable balls too.

Have you guys seen the preview for the next episode? [SPOILER BELOW]

Hahaha, I had no idea that Skylar has been dead for eight years in Luxembourg, but you could tell that she was thinking about fixing Ted's little problem with the IRS using, um, household insulation when Ted pleaded that he is broke.

    Damn I heart Breaking Bad.

We that solves how to launder or just plain get rid of all that excess money Walt brought in. Wonder how Walt is going to feel about Skylar's gift?

I can't fucking stand her. She fucked up and is now gonna use his money to cover it up. The thing is though, he has so much money laying around that he would never even notice that it's gone. Whats he gonna do count it all....

I'm betting the gift will come back to haunt her. Seems she is heading down the same path, trying to fix past mistakes with more mistakes while trying to keep the secret from her other. We all know how that ends up.

I just can't wait to see what the hell Jessy is gonna do in Mexico, talk about being fucked. I rather take my chances witness Gus all day. Not to mention, even though he has a love hate thing for Walt he still runs to him for help when it gets deep. Now he is fully on his own with a lie he in no way can cover up.

As for Walt, I don't think he is being a pussy. I mean come on, the guy has been through a lot, and what would standing up to Mike or Gus do, he has no choice but to keep his mouth shut. He is a thinking man not a brauler, I'm sure he will figure out a way to get even.

All that practice shooting mutants in RAGE paid off!

The Whites have an Aztek and a PT Cruiser in the fleet. Pimp. Nice to see Morris from 24 show up as the cartel chemist. The Beneke factor is a huge wrinkle...

Another great episode. Did anyone see Jesse's visit to Dunder Miflin on the Emmy's? Pretty funny.

Sangre por sangre. Adios Don Eladio. As soon as I saw that the tequila bottle was blue, I figured something was up. ¡Salud!

Interesting how the White family is tangled up in lies while Jessie, Gustavo and Mike have been forced into being more dependent on each other. Did everyone catch Walt's weird little Freudian slip?

Loved the chicas in their bikinis and heels dropping pesos as they made their getaway. 8) Also as a typical BB detail, the way the sheets stuck to Walt's head injury as he pulled them away. So much subtle black humor.

Totally. Pay up, Ted. Or else.

"Ouch" moment: "The bad way to remember you would be the way you've been this whole last year. At least last night, you were, you were real, you know?" - Walt Jr.

wow, ballsy move on Gus' part. A bit unrealistic though. No way they would get out of there alive.

more importantly, cross the cartel, what's to stop them from coming to Santa Fe and killing everyone?

    nada

I feel like both Gus and Mike will die, so Walt = new Gus and Jesse = new Mike? With a new cartel leader coming over the border to hunt them? Hmm...

Walt calling his son Jesse said a lot more to me than anything else in this episode...

I agree with Kirkland about taking down the Don, pretty unrealistic when considering real Mexican drug cartels and how they operate, but this show hasn't ever been completely realistic, has it?

I love this season, and am very excited to see how things progress. I am also very happy about the Walt crying scene because in many he is the same human being we started with - he has changed a lot, but it's still the same dude. I was very concerned reading the articles leading up to this season that they were going to try and make Walt into a full-fledged gangster this season...and THAT wouldn't feel realistic, at least not yet. We are still talking a YEAR of these character's lives.

This show has so much going for it, it blows my mind sometimes.

    PLEASE, Mike, don't die!!!

SPOILERALERT! Do not read if you have not watched the episode!!!:

I don't want Gus or Mike to die yet either, but I feel a major character has to die this season. Looks as though Mike was mortally wounded by a gunshot to the stomach, and from the bodies lying all over the estate- they are pretty much a telltale sign of Gus' fate as well. Despite taking what appeared to be charcoal pills to counter the poison (and vomiting first chance he got!), it only bought what seems to be time for Gus to come full circle. Who knows though maybe they will both make miraculous "only on film" recoveries! I admit the start of the season was not to my liking (the pacing) but it definitely has picked up.

I'm still wondering how this Beneke thing is going to play out?! If Walt finds out the shit is going to truly hit the fan.
