I will have to talk with the horde. I can never speak for JR, he is like a sakura petal flowing through the trees at Spring time, I try to catch him, but I can't.
Where and when again? Other then the Grody things are people bringing trades? I might lug some junk with.
^ last agreed time/place for the gathering was 9pm at minghin in chinatown. do we still need to meet late at night to accommodate everyone, or would it be better to meet earlier since it's sunday? that would give us more time to relax & enjoy ourselves. a roving band of round eyes and a twinkie invading chinatown for the day? i'll be bringing a few non-grody toys to trade but haven't selected them yet. do we need to bring a hair dryer for parts swapping? too much?
Earlier is way better for me, that damn woman and child I have hanging around wanna come with and mock me in public.
well, i'm fine with later... but earlier (meaning brunch or anytime after) would work as well. i have a feeling that if we go earlier, though, we will loose kirby, what with a store to run and all.
6-7pmish would work better for me. But I don't have anything to do with the trades, so the only loss would be my amazing self. Which is a huge loss to all.
I can go at any time, so whatever is good with the group, is good with me. I don't know if I'll have anything else to trade, but I can try to find something. My collection isn't that extensive yet lol. See you guys soon!
well, late night dim sum starts at 9:00... but we could always move down to joy yee or something and have a more standard dinner.
so... it'll be a dim sum-less dim summit? i've alerted kirby about the time change request. this gathering is harder to put together than bryan's pants and his junk.
Dude, getting together the CASK is torture, there is always someone that can't make it. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and go with the majority. Usually the majority is 2-3 people.
I'm up for whatever. Dim sum or no dim sum, it will still be fun. And yeah, I was also thinking if we should bring a hair dryer? I have not tried to pull one apart yet, so I have no idea if one is necessary or not..? Anyways, I'm up for wherever, whenever, whatever, as long as it's not this Saturday (birthday party and all for Brian).
just got word from kirby that he's up for an earlier outing, so we have a green light from everyone. if anyone drops out at this point, your cask membership card will be permanently rescinded. time: 7pm location: chinatown since restaurants don't serve dim sum at that hour, here are a few other options for group gatherings (sorry, but everything at joy yee's tastes alike as if all 400+ dishes were made from the same 6 ingredients): saint's alp -- taiwanese style tea house from hong kong in america (+ fun bahn mi joint next door) lure -- by far the best izakaya (with a french twist) in chicago richland center "food court" -- cheap, basement snack shacks in a huge public space (surprisingly good bahn mi) and then, maybe, if some of us are willing to hang out long enough until 9pm, we can still hit the late night dim sum at minghin or we can just meet there anyway since they have good deep fried pork belly. voice your opinions before the choice is made for you!
well if we do minghin for pork belly, etc (or any other "sit-down" place, for that matter), we should get an accurate headcount and put down a reservation. personally, i'd say we go to lure. st's alp is kinda small, and i've eaten in there before, and they were almost to the yelling at us point to get us out of there once the food was eaten. (st's alp bakery, right?) but then again there was a couple gwailo, a halfie and only one "real" chinese person in our group, so maybe we were just bringing down the property value. so count on me and the missus... that's 2 to start with.
i agree, we'll definitely need a headcount. if everyone makes it, that comes out to, what, 8? ^ saint's alp is not a bakery but a fun tea house (with odd but delicious european/asian mashups of food -- baked curry noodles with cheese anyone?). plenty of tables and electrical outlets for folks who want to camp out. plus, no yelling it's the place right on archer, not "inside" new chinatown strip. anyway, you + 1 and me makes three.
The wasted time spent arranging your get-together might well be the final nail in America's economic coffin!
