Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION Lulu has what now? Oh, SEISMiC ACE....$20 is a good price because he's heavy like metal! Most people think he is metal which is good. I might go change the advertising then! Woo. Well, I didn't think he was fragile at all but I sent one to some guy in America and it turned up smashed but seriously the postal service would have had to have grabbed it by the legs and smashed the hell out of it because I've dropped mine off the top shelf of my cabinet which is as tall as me about six times and it doesn't even have a paint chip. He's supposed to be bloody copper not that crazy silvery-goldy crap. I'm not sure what the hell happened...we had the WORST factory on earth I swear. This is the color he was supposed to be, then they sent all those pics of the final color and we were "What the hell happened to the copper color you showed us?" and they said "Well we can respray the whole lot if you want to pay us to do that but it will take awhile." so I said "Well bugger that for a laugh! It's already been 6 months." This color would have worked.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION Surprised that my local toy store had this guy in stock. Picked one up and man everyone was right he's heavy. Feel like i can knock someone out with this.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION Also, don't let him fall off anything inside of glass Detolf cabinets, like stands or mini-shelves because he'll smash right through the glass shelf....and the next shelf...and the next one if he has enough momentum....he's heavy.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION Yo dudes - just wanted to pop in and let you know that the sculpts are actually going to be done by Siccaluna's Miyazawa, not me. He has amazing chops and experience doing Nagai figures (like Devilman) as well as vintage robots like Tetsujin 28 so I think these should be right on in terms of that vintage feel. The rough sculpts are looking killer!
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION I agree, at the moment the OG/Seismic Ace type body has that POSEIDON or TETSUJIN look to it because where the resin has thin arm, legs and torso Miyazawa-san has expanded that to allow the vinyl to pour through and his legs have been shortened a little so now he's more barrel-type robot. We also took off those stupid rivets and the shogun-sticker-rip lightning bolts. Looking forward to see the rest after revisions get done and then we can start posting them up when all the parts are done, it's still early stages. Here is a design that was rejected called "Super Dogfighter" because this head just wouldn't work. It couldn't be pulled through the vinyl, it would lose all the details. I really loved this one because he didn't have an actual face, then we argued that maybe his face would be on the underside so people could choose which side to display. We have a head called XLR8OR 8 that evolved from this. The body is just based on the old gear-wind-up tin toys.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION It's getting close to SDCC now so it's probably time to put up at least one photo of the development. This is some of the mini parts sculpted/assembled at SICCALUNA to create the regular SEISMIC KING body. This is a body I doubt anyone would actually pull in a blindbag because of the sheer amount of different parts... this may come up 1/50. This head has a mouth and not the mouth guard the ACE had which will all be explained later when all the bodies are revealed.) There are 8 heads, 2 bodies, 2 sets of legs and 4 sets of arms w/5 different types of arms and some surprises that will be randomly put in the blindbags. This guy is around 4". I'm excited!
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION These toys make me feel like I'm 12 years old again and giddy with anticipation.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION I had to block out the backgrounds because there were sculpts that were not mine that I'm sure they didn't want released.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION They're still a while off completion.....there are some pretty wild things that need to be done before we can do the two extra bodies that will require them to be sent to the Fort, back to Siccaluna then back to the Fort again just so bodies can be constructed properly. With SDCC about to happen there's usually a big focus on that and new releases....I didn't really even try to push for SDCC since I really want my stuff to be seen as "Made in Japan" and not just "Made by that Australian guy" which is why I was happy Siccaluna were taking it on. There's a lot of work going into these.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - ANY OLD ION Not sure what's going on...I posted these new sculpt shots this morning and they weren't up this afternoon. Checked in "view your posts" and it was all there but it wasn't anywhere in the first 10 pages although stuff from last week hasn't moved. So here it is again. New sculpt stuff New head shots Some of the weapon arms (unfinished) The legs are being changed right now (lengthened)
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. *Update: New post up on the blog. Just has everything that has happened over 5 months till now for people who can't be arsed with clicking on every button (The new blog looks smick but it's a bit of a cock to navigate) http://anyoldion.blogspot.com.au/
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. these look like so much fun to mix-n-match. too bad about the gear- and drill- bodies. they would've been awesome, i'm sure. very exciting! also:
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. Originally I planned to do very limited release colors but I've come to realise that just won't work. If I only did say, ten unpainted red and ten blue the parts interchangability doesn't work if you buy two and get one of each, especially if you are not into mixed colour parts (it's a blind bagged line). So I'll probably do an even number, some unpainted, some very basic sprays and some clears to start off with and then in the future maybe some new heads and arms before I move on to a more basic two-part mini I have in mind. I don't know, there's a lot of thought going into it....I can guarantee I'm pretty much constantly thinking about it 24/7.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. I don't know if people are into this sort of thing but here are some of the advertising standees for various events. The left is the original I did and the right is the fixed up version without the company name and small kinks taken out that are in the left. The art was by an artist named Robert Kim. When the toys are released I will replace these with the actual product with full company details etc and have the smaller ones made so they can double as display stands. These range from 1 ft desktop stands to 60"ers.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. And here they are finished....these are tabletops. When there's an actual product I'll do Jumbo sized ones to go in stores and elsewhere.
Re: Japanese Mini Vinyl - A.O.I. Hell Yeah! A.O.I. is Definitely on top of my list. Ha, I check the blog at least once daily (http://anyoldion.blogspot.com.au/).
