The tiger 7 head looks like a pretty good replica compared to the costume. It sort of reminds me of the suited t7 but with more realistic detail.
i just got overly excited when i saw the kamen rider toy. its not the kaiju ken version, plus it was nearly 300 dollars. my brain wasnt functioning.
Going back to quality, it definitely seems like KK has kicked up the quality versus their early work.
Hmmm well I wish I had a new one in my hands to make the comparison but alas no. I don't recall the KK Silver Mask series being that shabby though. He used a lot of clear coat for a nice finish much like M1. Anyone know what will be available for the upcoming festival at the end of the month?
Wait--I might have missed it in a previous post (or I just forgot....I'm WAY hung-over from this past weekend): the guy sculpting for Kaiju Ken isn't the same guy it's always been, right? I guess I just assumed that because all the new stuff is kinda realistically-styled, but still funky and unique....while the older stuff is a little more like traditional kaiju/metal hero style.
I think the same guy who does Yamomark did the Silver Mask series for KK. Where as the new sculpts are KK by KK.
I like these figures a lot, especially the Barom-1. It looks like he's using a standard resin figure, and then sculpting on top of it, and piecing it together. A little off subject, but for anyone interested in how some of these style figures are sculpted, here's an amazing video, that's really helped me get out some of my sculpting kinks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5RpL8UB ... iDmz0Rjs8= It's a 9 part series, and it's in Japanese, but anyone can understand what's happening. There are a ton of other good videos, on the poster's account, but this deals with scratch building figures.
Oooh...definitely gonna have to check out that video series. Not that I sculpt at all, but I find stuff like this fascinating. Thanks for posting! Interesting...I think I remember reading that now. Anyway, I love all the subtleties in the new KK sculpts...like the way the suits would deform when worn by a real person and whatnot. Also, if you look at that Mazinger face, it's clearly patterned after the original manga look of the robot (especially with the lines around the eyes and on the cheeks). There was only, like, ONE Bandai toy ever that emulated that look (most toymakers going for the cleaner cartoon look).
Unfortunately, he hasn't gotten the licenses for all of these so some may never see a release. I believe others are 1 day licenses. I don't think vintage guys are turning their nose up at these...I just don't think they know about them.
No kidding, I can't wait to see their Barom-1 interpretations (if they make one). This guy is great. The colors from Zaboga always throw me for a loop. He always reminds me of a "What if Colossus from the X-men had to wear a robotic suit." Comic book.
The head shapes carries a robotic samurai feel to me. But I definitely get the Colossus with all the red and silver.
Fuuuuuuuuu...uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.... Love that Zaborger! So hoping the Mazinger gets made. I will buy the shit outta that.
Damn, that guys looks so great. I tried to get a hookup for these new sculpts at SF59, but it was still early I guess. I still hope that some of the others squeak through to us somehow.
