I've been listening to alot of Black flag lately and how many people think Rollins ruined that band? Then again not sure if it was Ginn or Henry who wanted the songs over five minutes long and just boring jamming. Also who's your favorite BF singer? I have to go with Keith Morris.

This discussion actually came up here before. Most of us leaned againt Henry. I cant even stand him as a radio dj or LAWeekly contributer because he is damned self referential. On the flipside he was a good punk performer and he has a great eclectic love for music.

I'm a fan of every phase Black Flag has gone through (maybe cut out the spoken word album), in my opinion to say Henry "ruined" the band is a huge stretch.

Maybe ruined was too harsh since I do love the Henry era to. But going from album to album the shift in music is quite drastic when listened back to back.

Love the band in all its incarnations, though Keith is special. I find most anything Rollins does entertaining. The source of the comment that he "ruined the band" came from him directly and has been hashed to death. I would recommend that you do NOT want to get in a one on one conversation witth him. That mother can talk! Its not so much a conversation as being the only person at a spoken word show. I felt victimized for 30 minutes.

I know this is a controversial opinion, but my person feeling is the band reached it's highest, most defining point, with Damaged. Henry brought a lot to the band & was a big part of that. Read 'Get in the Van; if you haven't...

Don't get me wrong, I love the earlier material just as much.

I feel like this too. I love the stuff pre-Damaged and post-Damaged, but from my experience and observation, people seem to remember material from Damaged the most. At least those my age

i was just listening to rollins only black flag yesterday. i dont consider myself "punk" nor do i know anything really when it comes to punk- but the rollins era black flag is so good to me. longer songs, nice songwriting, different compositions with song structures, even instrumental songs.

i love "rats eyes", and especially the spin off band called "rats eyes" fronted by the Locusts drummer

I'm a heretic, I loved Slip It In when it came out and I still listen to it now. I don't know what else to add to this so please let the shit talking begin.

I understand. I loved the Discharge "Grave New World" album when it came out (the one with the pinched nuts vocals).

My guess would be Ginn. I saw him the year before last at a house show in Baton Rouge & he must've played for 3 hours! all by himself just noodling the fuck out on guitar over some pre-recorded tracks or a looper or who knows. It was a mess.

I think when it comes down to it, Black Flag would have gone in the musical direction it went regardless of Rollins. Rollins was along for the ride and did an awesome job of adapting.

Lol, I cringe in delight when I listen to that record.

I would guess Ginn also, from what Ive read and heard over the years it sure sounds that way.

Definitely pre-Rollins. Never cared for his stuff. The Black Flag in The Decline of Western Civilization is best.
