So, now that it is finally over, can we talk about this? :)

It is not vinyl, but clearly generated a lot of interest. I have no idea about it either way, but I am sure there has to be one or two people on here that do. It looks like a killer toy anyways - awesome plastic robot with missile-firing action. It also appears to be gigantic. :o From the description, it is a "Big Loo" talker, made by Marx.

^^^^I know nothing about Big Loo other than I recently saw it lurking in the background on a "pick" on American Pickers. I remembering seeing it then and thinking what the heck is that. It's probably just the color scheme, but it reminds me of another seemingly unattainable Marx toy for me - the Great Garloo. The pickers didn't even ask about it in the show as I recall.

I saw that same episode of American Pickers and was screaming at the TV for Mike and Frank to turn around and get that Big Loo. My wife was rolling her eyes at me.
I am sure there are others on here with more knowledge on Big Loo than me. But here is my two cents on the matter.
Big Loo, from Marx, came out in 1963. He is over 3 feet tall and shoots the darts, balls, talks, and came with a slew of accessories. I think his eyes lit up, he could bend over and pick up objects.
I fell for it after seeing it on the cover of the Los Lobos album, Colossal Head.
I've never had the money for one, but would love to add one to the menagerie.
Looks like this one had quite a few of the things normally lost over the years.

I don't know much about it specifically, but I am familiar with it being pretty famous/desired by vintage robot collectors. I never thought about it before, but I am surprised there isn't more crossover between sofubi and robot collectors.

Another great robot listing passed through the bay yesterday. This awesome bootleg Mazinger "Shogun Warrior" battery-operated beauty.

If I had 700$ to spare I might have gotten in on the bidding.

Speaking of crazy bargains, man, this is such a rough time to be broke. :| This is just a great price for a Hedorah in that kind of shape - barely any of the nose and head paintrubs that are oh so common on these guys. Are people not really paying attention anymore, or everyone just has one? In any case, some lucky buyer got an excellent bargain from my viewpoint.

And another killer figure from the same seller. Love King Zaiga - some day my friend, some day....

Looks like I've still got a lot to learn. :| That's more than I can justify on a piece of sofubi.

Well, these are vintage figures, which can easily get in to the four figure range on some (just take a look at the YJA thread). But none of that is even touching the money spent on Nags and the like.

Ha! You and me both man. Good thing is there are still plenty of cheap toys to be had too, including excellent Bullmark replicas from M1, B-Club, and others, and even when you can't afford those (like me right now) just being part of the hobby (learning, dicussions, etc.) and enjoying what you have is all part of the fun. :)

Right on. It's an endlessly fascinating hobby. I'm stunned by how in depth it really goes and the folks here ability to identify obscure pieces and whatnot. I'm not good with names, so I'll probably never be like that, but I hugely enjoy this preoccupation so far.

Steve, I'd recommend posting those pics in the vintage thread. Even though the thread title says "Y!J", I think it's really meant to encompass *any* weird/notable auctions for vintage toys. A lot of the vintage collectors who read that board don't venture over here much... :/

Another very beautiful - and boxed! - gem from a few days ago; the tin Bullmark electronic Jirass. Hell, I would love even a reprint of this guy, but a chance at an original, wow. It doesn't come much better than this when it comes to kaiju toys, certainly not in any non-vinyl sense. Even works!!! :D A real cornerstone to a collection for whomever bought him.

Uploading a slew of giant images for the record. Because this is one beautiful toy.

PS - If these are your images and you wish them taken down, please just let me know.

Here is another one from a couple weeks ago. Not so rare really, and certainly not in the best of shape, but you know this guy is always popular. The Popy talking/roaring Jumbosaurus Goji. Kind of a hefty price, but then things are getting expensive these days. Certainly a massive toy, and a more classic sculpt than the "jumbo" version released in the Shogun Warriors/Machinder lines. Nice that the talk box was still working too. I assume the silver bullet was not included.

I was watching that Jumbosaurus on the chance I might finally get to pick one up, but the ending price was almost double what it typically is on YJ, from my recollection.

Yeah, I think it ended on the very high end as well, but prices, particularly on ebay, seem to fluctuate so much these days that the range is incredibly large, all depending on who happens to be looking for a particular toy at a given moment. Was it worth a premium price? - well, maybe not to me, but at least two people must have thought so.

This was a particularly spectacular piece, for someone who had the cash. Considering why hyped 'art' toys sell for, I know for myself, picking up something like this if I had the money would be a no-brainer. Yeah, it is a lot of money, but it is also one hell of fantastic Ultraman. An amazing display (and sculpt) from one of the best lines done. Massive (and massively awesome). A rare chance to own a real piece of toy history. Truly glorious. I enjoy just looking at it; I can only imagine what it would be like to buy.

Connell, for what it's worth, I don't think that shipping estimate was meant to be any kind of accurate quote or anything. More of just a forewarning/deterrent to flakey buyers that this thing is massive and heavy, and coming from Japan, so know what you are getting into first. I have no doubt this was sold in person/something arranged directly. The ebay 'listing' was just used as free advertising by Mandarake. Which, I agree, is not what the site is set up for, but comes as no surprise.

In this case, I don't really have any particular issue with it, given the item, and that Mandarake is a shop (which already has its own auction, online store, and catalogue - but whatever  ). But I find this trend incredibly frustrating and for that call BS on the behaviour as a whole. With sellers constantly being able to just end listings at a whim for any old excuse they make (i.e. mistake in the listing, item not available, item broken, etc., etc.) without any fallout at all on them, I am not surprised it has turned into this. Personally, I hate it, because sellers - and the buyers who contact them with loads of cash or whatnot - are taking an end-run around the system, and it is not the free market of an auction at all. Ebay has obviously decided to turn a blind eye to this behaviour though, as it is nothing new and has become very commonplace. :? Just another aspect we all have to take from there being a virtual monopoly by ebay and Paypal, which ultimately the buyers have to suffer.

Yep, that looks to be one of the 80s bootlegs. The prices on them can kind of be all over the place from what I have seen, but I have seen a few of them really sell for a lot (for what they are). But with Goji, anything goes is pretty much status quo.

Once there is a bid ebay usually charges the seller 10% of the highest bid for ending the item early. It isn't much, but what can they really do?
