I performed a search but didn't come up with anything. In less than 24 hours, I'm flying to HK (hence the possible delay in posting the mystery convention exclusive pic). Can anyone recommend a couple of must visit shops for J vinyl? Much obliged.
No info on the boards, so I'll supply it. Where do you find kaiju in HK? At the airport. You buy a plane ticket to Tokyo! Superman Toys in the CTMA building has a few things, and there is this and that vintage kaiju scattered about, but very little. There's just not much of a market for neo or vintage kaiju in HK. Seems this is an aspect of Japanese culture that hasn't spread from Japan to the rest of Asia. Oh one fellow had an interesting comment. He said Secret Base and what not are not hot in HK because there's no cartoon to market them!
I never knew about timezones, no wonder I can never get my sister, in hawaii, on the phone. what time zone do you live in?
SB should totally do some Bape collabos and maybe an Edison Chen Skull bee or something, that shit would be a burning hot forest fire in HK
no doubt. bape and other japanese clothing, fashion, capsule toys, anime etc are everywhere in HK. Serious japanese culture invasion (MUCH moreso than the last time I was in HK 5 years ago). But not much in the way of kaiju or vintage japanese toys, alas. i think it's safe to say the "trendy" japanese stuff is very hot in HK. but more "long term" hardcore stuff has a hard time taking a hold there. maybe that's the same in most places...
Bummer this never really went anywhere. I'm in HK now and it seems CMTA center and the store across the street are the only places ive found. Wish there was more.
Angel Abby is based in HK, from their website: Mazinger SHOP 167,1/F,ORIENTAL 188 SHOPPING CENTRE,188 WANCHAI ROAD, WANCHAI,HONG KONG Toys World SHOP 106,1/F,IN'S POINT,538 NATHAN RD,YAU MA TEI,KLN,HONG KONG http://www.angelabby.hk/web/index.php
Otherwise I talked with kidclam about the topic last year and he said there was indeed nothing. I lived there for three years and can't say I saw much either. Maybe try Sino Centre and that other hidden mall in WanChai (on... Wellington? One south of Hennessey... Angelabby will know what I'm talking about). They will at least have gachagacha...
Indeed...place is really about hot toys and similar, or so it seemed on my last visit. TBH though it's such an amazing place the last thing I'd want to do is toy shopping.
Last time I was in HK a couple of years ago Superman Toys was still there, hoping to visit Angel Abby this summer if I pop by...
