^ hahah funny story... i was asked to be on Work of Art season 2...but declined because reality tv left a sour taste in my mouth. I was also asked to be on ANTM allstars and i also declined.
I actually don't think that is a funny story. I kind of expected this reaction from anyone why had to go through the 'reality' experience. It takes a certain type of person to be unphased by that, and in the same way it is suggested that many CEOs display tendencies in line with psychopathy, it is probably a good thing that those are in the minority.
Hey guys, My name is Chris, I'm a long time lurker. I collected years ago but sold everything off. This can be a very expensive hobby. In the last couple of years I've gotten back into it though. I love so much stuff out there it'd probably be easier to name stuff I don't like. Outside of this hobby, I'm into my wife, animals, tattoos, music, movies, books, pretty much anything art related. Enough about me, back to toys.
Thanks Dago. I collect M1GO, Dream Rocket, Max Toy, Blobpus, T9G, MVH, PK, Zollmen, Jetturre, & Bemon/Anraku if I can ever afford either
Preamble 'Sup everyone I am finally getting around to my introduction here. My name is David and I like toys, tattoos, music and my self. Right now I live in Seattle but I am from San Diego. I've been collecting toys since I was a kid and wish I still had certain ones. I collect other things too like masks, concert posters/shirts, music, tattoo business cards and memories. I'm working on a full body suit and have over 150 hours of tattoo time. I am by no means a techie and the only message board I have ever been a member of is Tool Army. I like all types of music though. How ever, I am here for toys. Super 7 and Secret Base drew me in but I like Paul Kaiju, Gargamel, Real Head, MVH, Shikaruna, Butonohana and basically anything weird. I am really digging the Americans in this toy genre and am looking forward to learning more about their counterparts across the globe. Right now my favorite figures are my Boss Carrion, Kumon, Ultrus Bog and custom Skinner Seagool. But I've got a bunch more. One of these days I'll get around to posting pictures. I plan on only having one of each sculpt so you all don't have to worry about me as competition. So yeah, thanks for finally letting me on board, I applied 6 or 7 months ago. Ps. I am sorta lazy, gullible, naive and I am not good with names. I will probably have lots of stupid questions so take it easy on me. I am a pretty laid back guy though, here as a hobby and not looking to cause a ruckus.
Welcome. Please read the FAQs and use the search function before asking stupid questions, as you say. And do not use "dude" or "bro". You'll get banned.
I collect toys I like. I don't give a damn how popular/hyped/rare/valuable/loved/hated/worthless a particular toy is. I get what appeals to me on a personal level and that's it. I find more cool toys at thrift shops and flea markets then i ever do online. I still on occasion actually play with my toys. I draw and sculpt. I am not here to make any money off anyone. I am not here to promote something I made. I am not here to flip anything. I am here to trade. I am here to buy stuff I think is cool. I am here to see incredible toys and maybe someday get to know the people behind them. I have not been lurking since the day this place opened. I have spent the last two weeks reading hundreds of threads here. I am not an expert on any of the toys people here love. I want to learn. I did not suddenly decide that kaiju toys are awesome.. I have loved japanese toys(giant monsters especially)since I was a little kid. I was a little kid a long long time ago.
I read your previous posts. I hope you aren't just another cheerleading n00b asshat. Even despite writing like this. You scrape a pass!
Re: Preamble Welcome to Skullbrain 2013, you are already well qualified! DudeBroDude . . . FOR REALZ!
I could see why I'd come off like that but out of the hundreds of new toys I've seen here over the past two weeks I only want maybe 3 or 4 of them. That does not include stuff in the "vintage" section since I'd love to get my hands on a lot of those ugly old toys. I am not in awe of people just because they have the money to get a toy made. I do really respect great sculpting though just cause I know how hard it is to get what's in your head onto clay. So no I'm not the type to toss out compliments for anything I don't really like in hopes of someone someday giving me dibs on a secret ultra mega one-off colorway of some ugly ass toy that little kids waited in line for a week to get. If I love a toy I'll say so. If I hate a toy I probably won't say anything. If I hate the person who made the toy... I guess we'll see.
Hey everybody, my name is Phil and I've been collecting toys ever since I was a little kid in the 80s. I collected consistently since the late 90s and then I just gave up. I've been a stay-at-home dad for the last 3 years which has given me the opportunity to get back into collecting toys. I've been collecting vinyl toys for the past few years. I was recently at the WonderCon convention and happened to pass by the Super7 booth and I was amazed by these toys! I was lucky enough to pick up the last Pocket Vampire Rose they had on display. I was so into that little guy that I went home that night and started googling my ass off about these Japanese style toys. I've been hooked ever since. I spend a couple hours a night digging through websites & getting more familiar with this hobby. I dig Secret Base (Wings mainly), BXH, Super7, GARGAMEL Deathras, Lucha Bears, Greasebats, shit, too many to list. Thanks to all the guys that helped me out so far. I purchased some awesome finds here. I appreciate it.
Geez, heres someone I've actually met in real life! He Chris, what's up! How was the wedding/honeymoon? One of these days we'll have to hang out- I'd like to see your collection and how it's coming along.
Hey Phil! I've been good, thanks. The wedding and honeymoon were amazing. We definitely should hang out soon and catch up. My collection is slowly but steadily getting bigger...its amazing how fast a want list grows hanging around this board. And I'd love to see your collection/paint set-up too. Come out with Mark and Steph soon!
Hello everyone. It has come to my attention that i have not properly introduced myself to SB, so here I am. My name's William (Carlisle is my middle name). I've been a collector of sorts most of my life, but only recently of these great toys here. I mostly started out with boardgames (SPI, Avalon Hill, etc.) with plenty of D&D thrown in for good measure. Some star wars, final fantasy figures, spawn - you know, stuff at wal-mart or comic book stores. I've always liked Godzilla though and am OLD enough to have seen movies like "Destroy all monsters, war of the gaargantuas, Green Slime, Equinox, etc." at the theater in my small town here in NC. But it was Hedorah who led me to SB. When I googled it, one of the results was for SB. I clicked on it and a whole new world of great figures opened up before me. Toys i never knew existed until early this year! I'm embarrassed about that because I'm usually up on stuff, at least enough to have heard of it. Anyway hedorah led to blobpus who led to Boogies and that's pretty much how i came to be here. I don't have a very large collection & I'm just getting those special toys that I like and am proud to own. i admire the dedication of all the great artists & collectors here on SB and I appreciate the chance to share in your love of toys.... In closing.. I apologize for being so slow in introducing myself - I"m just lacking in social graces. And I'll try to type better, but i have some medical issues, so I'm trying as best i can. Lastly, I'm terrible at computers as well and can't for the life of me figure out how to post pictures here on SB. But I'm working on it, because I want to share my collection with everyone! Thank ya'll again for letting me be a part of the Skullbrain community.
welcome! and great into. Dont take anything personal. We love what we have here and do our best to protect it and no worries on lacking social graces- I suck at that too. Welcome from a fellow stay at home dad!
There are many compound sentences filled with prepositions, but not a run on in the bunch. The post is grammatically and rhetorically correct and very Hemingway-esque, if you ask me.
