Re: 450 Mechani Kong So are these guys going to be the next Gorilla Ju figures or what? Only 30 were available as far as I am aware, and I have already seen three come up for sale. I don't really blame Marusan, though I still don't know why they would keep the numbers this low, and on top of that make them so difficult to get. I am just really disappointed I guess; I would have hoped that they ended up in the hands of real fans of the toy and its history. I really hope that this was a one-off sales situation for a 'prototype' version, and the next painted release will be a full run.
Re: 450 Mechani Kong Yeah I don't get it either, kaiju fans have been waiting forever for a repro. I wanna glowie version of this guy
Re: 450 Mechani Kong This is not a repro. It's a new sculpt. The sales seems to be strictly for Japan only. This probably has to do with a licensing contract issue between Marusan and Toho. MechaniKong name is not fully owned by Toho to my understanding. The MechaniKong name and it's likeness appeared in a joint King Kong cartoon produced between a American and Japanese company before King Kong Escapes came out in 1967.
Re: 450 Mechani Kong Mechani Kong madness! There is another painted version and unpainted mystery bag releases coming soon, looks like five different random colors at ¥10,000 a piece, one per bag.
Re: 450 Mechani Kong Your wish just came true. A unpainted gid is 1 of the 5 random unpainted color in the lucky bag.
Very cool. I wish they would tackle some of the Marusan originals in this line, or some other characters who aren't available in giant size - Daimajin would be simply amazing, I think I would lose my mind over one of those.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) This is fantastic. Look at those superb colours, and the joints around the antennae and extra arm articulation, wow! That is one lovely Joe. I hope that these won't be as scarce/pricey as the MGs, but judging from the quality of that one, it is probably going to be about the same.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) I was checking the Marusan site and the only mention was a Joe & Ultraseven battle set that will be about ¥26,000, then I got home and had revived a postcard from Marusan, Joe is available alone at ¥16,800 also. You must have an address in Japan to ship to and send the order to Marusan by December 12th if you want one.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) Great, thanks for the info Dennis! That is not so bad, considering what you are getting. Dammit, I really need to find a job.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) Wow! I am really taken with this King Joe too. I'm usually not so keen on giant size figures and I often prefer "cruder" sculpting, but this is just stellar.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) Loving the Marusan 450 series. I will probably try to place an order for a King Joe. MechaniKong is my favorite so far out of the 450. Just missing a brown unpainted. If anyone has a brown unpainted MechaniKong from the lucky bag I am looking to buy. Forgot to include this version in the picture.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) If anyone has the grey unpainted and would like to trade for the flesh unpainted let me know
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) Damn Anthony, now that is a collection. I didn't even know there were that many colour variants available through the lucky bags. That is really fantastic! I wish I could help you out. If I do see a brown, I'll definitely send it your way.
Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe) That is an amazing collection. The up side is you have the brown painted so you aren't missing a color. Hopefully someone can help you out with the unpainted though. I really wish I had tried to buy more of these when the lucky bag was released. They all seem to have disappeared. I'm glad I got the 1 I have.
