I recently sold my entire collection that started way back in the 1980s, it has been sitting dormant in boxes and plastic tubs in my attic for years,i would buy stuff and just store it away. I kept most of the vintage vinyl and kaiju and one Jumbo, now in the three weeks since, I really wish I had held on to more, especially the Jumbos, but on a good note it has all re-kindled the collector in me and I have recently purchased more vinyl figures than I have in the last 10 years, then a friend convinced me to join this forum and I am even more excited to start collecting again. Here are some pics before it all went away, some of the plastic tubs are filled with almost every Godzilla figure put out from the mid 80s to the late 90s, tons of Ultraman and Kamen Rider,Astroboy, etc, etc, Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr This last pic is all that I kept, and they have always been my favorites All that is left by b.corley65, on Flickr
Dude I totally understand the pressing need to purge and the subsequent regret. But you still have a really nice collection there. The best thing to do is figure out a good way to display what you have so you can enjoy it every day.
Brian, I feel the same way about all my Godaiken diecast robots, I had them all ( didn't you also?) and sold them about ten years ago to pay medical bills. Voltes V, mint in the box went for 700 dollars.... Lately I've been trying to slim down what I buy to a few things, but GD there is so much great stuff out there! Who am I kidding, if I like it & have the money I buy it.
Did you ever find the Sleestak/Creature from Black Lagoon looking figure with the penis bump and squeaker in his butt? Good to see you still kept dino LED 80's technology monster!
Wow Brian, amazing collection. Sorry you had to part with a lot of it, but I think this is something every collector goes through at least once. Even just selling a piece or two can come back to really haunt you, and you never feel 'complete' until you recover it somehow. It makes it (a little) easier to bear when think that your toys likely found loving homes where they continue to be enjoyed. You've still got some absolutely amazing stuff there though too. Love those removable mask fellas, especially the Devilman. Don't think I have seen that Gatcha boot before either. Are the larger Ultras Chinese boots? Very nice stuff; you had a keen eye for what you kept. Welcome back into the fold, it is all downhill (for your wallet) from here.
Those two Ultra figures (Ultraman & Ultra 7) were made by Bandai in the 80's, they came in a box. I have a pair too, we liked them because they had a retro , fat baby style body.
Thanks Jeff! I totally agree. They are a scale up version of smaller Bandai ones done in the same proportions, I just never had the luck to see these big chunky guys. The LED monster is pretty spiffy too!
I'm really missing the Jumbos, I had some really good ones, even a beat up KM-V3. Nope Jeff I don't know what happened to the squeaky penis bump guy, actually there was a lot of stuff that wasn't on any of the boxes or bins that I don't know what happened to.
This guy was my fav,in the box, bagged, all the missiles and accessories plus the Popy catalog..ugh Sellers Remorse by b.corley65, on Flickr
I had a Poseidon in the box as well, and along with the Dragun shogun I had all the Getter Robo-G jumbos, I pulled them at the second not to sell, but the guy that bought it all wouldn't give me my asking price without them.
my story isn't quite as heartbreaking — i felt a little bit of remorse after trading away two m1 minis for one m1 mini at g-fest i don't know if you meant to have others share their stories, but this is a great thread idea!
thanks for sharing those pics BKC, are you aiming to rebuild the same collection or will you just go with whatever speaks to you, new and old ? maybe it's the vintage but i like everything in your pics. welcome
I don't plan on rebuilding what I had, but yes just what ever speaks to me, I already bought a bunch of the Medicom Tiger-mask repros as well as the Devilman 40th anniversary repros. Those are some of the things I always wanted but could never find or afford the originals.
Hey at least you kept some great toys! Bootleg devilman, removable mask inazuman, giant mask mirrorman- tons of good stuff in that pic. If they spurn you on into collecting again, that's a positive thing. Good to have you here. Nice to see people (like you and AWMGodzilla62) posting vintage collections.
My regrets always revolve around selling stuff for retail and then seeing it sold later for big increases. Jerks.
Where did you sell these? Just curious. I don't think it was ebay - I don't recall seeing these offered.
