i love Doves! they're an amazing live band...I have to drag that disc out when I get home tonight. Very overlooked in my opinion..

anyone heard the new pharrell disc? Any good? He tends to be hit or miss for me..

    The Doves are highly underated.

I used to call them "The poor man's Radiohead".
"Lost Souls" is a classic album.

"One of These Days" on Some Cities hase the most wickkid humping bassline.

Both excellent discs, and the best thing with doves is that they sound better live than on disc. ;)

Doves and Elbow at the Mayan about 3-4 years ago - awesome.
Doves with STrokes opening at the El Rey 5 years ago - Doves were awesome, Strokes were horrible.
Didn't dig the last Doves album at all tho, much preferred the first one by far!

If you have a music shop with a reliable electronica section you should be able to find these. They are more along the lines of a jazz-electronic fusion, with minimal vocals. For anyone looking for music that is different yet familiar then try these CD's.If you live in San Francisco skip looking at the Virgin MS, they don't know what a real electronica section is , THEY SUCK! Support your local independant music stores !!! Try BOOMKAT on the net, you can even sample , they are the sheeet !
    Bola
    TRIOSK
    Efterklang
    Funky Lowlives
    Fourtet
    Monolake

And the list goes on. If anyone takes the time to listen to my sugestions and is interested in more recomendations just let me know.

I dig the new Doves album... can't say there's a partular album I like, but I have my favorites with each album. I've seen them once at the Filmore... great show! When i first saw what the band looked like... they're not exactly what I had in mind though (appearance.. not performance-wise)... nice to hear some Doves love

I haven't heard teh new Pharrel album yet... but that first single he had was pretty crappy IMO. I really like "In Search of..." also

Cool. I saw Magic Numbers at Coachella, and they had a great positive vibe - perfect for outdoors on a sunny day.

Also glad to hear some Doves love.

tortoise is one of my favorites. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. We went and saw them during a snowstorm because it was within walking distance and there were abut 15 people that showed up. A really excellent night.

tortoise is amazing live. Generally, i can't stand instrumentally sort of stuff live, but tortoise is an exception. It could be that they're multi-instramentalists and are changing up all the time.

The only strange thing about them is how John McEntire stares when he plays... seems he just picks a person out of the audience and stares at them.

Just watched the dvd from the new box set; totally awesome. If you don't have that set, you ought to go for it. It's super cheap too, like $30.

New Exoheads "Marc" and "Bolan" with the TRex heads inspired some glam rotation today (random shuffle):

    TRex - Electric Warrior
    David Bowie - Alladin Sane
Mott the Hoople - All The Young Dudes
    Lou Reed - Transformer

Plus, came across this whilst traipsing through the cds looking for the others (great listen - forgotten gem!):

    Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything

(These days, they really DON'T make music like they used to...)
