That is one that is really going to hurt. I have still not gotten over not being able to grab one when they came up, and the thought of it has been haunting me. Although I am really excited to see pics, it is also going to cut even deeper. Congrats on getting one, my favourite by far, I am so glad they did the traditional colour. (sniff, no really, I am)
I have never been that much a fan of metallics strangely enough. I guess I just like simple things for my personal collection, but I still admire the other stuff a lot.. He looks amazing though, and is certainly growing on me. Amazing paint execution.
This would be great! I hope Marusan would continue churning out the other unpainted/painted black 450s.
The King Joe 450 should be out soon. Kaminaga-san mentions on his Marusan blog that it's mold in 2 vinyl colors. Grey and red. Also he mentions these are hand painted without using any masking. So any paint imperfections such as not perfect paint lines are to reflect the original Showa standard 350 size as being nostalgic to that period as they were also not painted with a mask.
Yeah, I think what he means is that the 'antennae' part are made from separate pieces, cast in red vinyl. It is more clear on some of the mixed blanks. This guy looks fantastic by the way, if I didn't say so already, and the hand painting makes it worth every yen.
Thank you Captain Obvious. Also here is a picture of the antennae being cast is grey vinyl. But the final decision not to go with the process of painting it red and just casting it in red vinyl.
Yeah, I know, I know. Just trying to clarify it for people who might not know about the construction of the figure. Wasn't trying to imply lack of knowledge or contradict your statement. You remain a god among toy men Anthony.
I was only busting your balls Steve. I rarely bust anyone's ball on SB for the fear of them going ape shit on me. But I knew you can take it. Back to toys. Did anyone get the 450 MechaniKong tower set or pink or black unpainted yet? Still waiting for those to come in. Also still need the unpainted brown lucky bag if anyone comes by it.
Haha, you got that right; there isn't much that gets to me; especially in the toy world. Here is a little database I have been working on for a while. While it is far from being complete for all of the 450 series, I thought it would be worthwhile for a lot of people for reference to see what has been released so far. I think there are still some variants and newer versions I need to add, and all of the pics have been borrowed from various sources, so I will try and improve on it when I can. Any feedback is welcome of course. Damn you to hell, Steve, for showing me all those pictures of toys I now want the hell outta! Seriously...I'm off to Y!J to find me a Mechanikong! LOL
Great quick job on that database. Better picture of the flesh vinyl first release. Official grey vinyl release from the Lucky Bags.
Bravo, Steve! Extra points for separating the pretties by license... as it should be! The fake bootleg Ultra makes me so happy:
Great, thanks for the extra images Anthony. I'll add them the next go round. I am still working to try and get it to look presentable now. Since I grabbed them from various sources, some of them are definitely not great, but I really just wanted to get something down to know what was there in terms of variants. This actually started because I have been obsessing over the U7s, which seemed to have a lot of versions, so then I just compiled the ones I have IDed together.
Steve, stop it!!!!!!!! Youre killing me, there are a few that I passed on that I regret now that I cant look at this thread anymore!!!!! Im going to have to just stick with the Ultra Q monsters from now on, but no Garamon. I never thought Id say this but I cant buy every Garamon toy anymore. I even passed on recent M1GO toys, blashpemy!!!!!
I send out universal apologies to everyone. Know only that you do not suffer alone. If I could just go back in time, I would set so much money aside to make sure I had at least one of every figure covered. They are all fantastic, and the best line to come along recently for classic kaiju toys.
Nice job whipping that up Steve. I have some pics of the of the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi x Marusan 45th Anniversary versions ( blue phantom and red illusion prototypes):
Thanks Chris, I had the red 'illusion' one listed there, but now I see the link for the pic goofed. Don't know how I spaced on the darker guy, since they came out at the same time, and hench are almost always next to each in page images. I am not sure why U7 [seemingly] had all the special limited releases, but I guess mainly for the 45th anniversary. Since I have only see these in photos, there may be further subtle differences I have not yet noticed, such as with certain figures that were released in sets or on their own. I have a feeling there may be some other variant '66 Ultras.
Thanks Steve, you have put an excellent photo reference together! Here's another Marusan Red King 450 which isn't listed. (I put my figure back in it's bag to photograph it so it would match the other photos):
