On first read, I thought that this was some publicity stunt. I mean who steals a giant painting like that and doesn't have a get away plan. I mean the guy took it then is standing there on the street waiting for a taxi talking on his cell phone?? Hilarious.
I'be bought art from Sean before - he is a cool dude and obviously the right man to me manning the gallery
"obviously the right man to me manning the gallery" article says he didn't notice they were gone for some time and 2 giant as fuck paintings are still missing so I question this. Also where the fuck were the patrons at? If I was at a gallery show and someone whom I did not recognize as staff was fucking with the art I would definitely be speaking up.
I would love to hear the details of how the actual robbery went down. they couldnt possibly have been stolen during the opening..?? CCM is soo small, theres really no being sneaky about that in there. Possibly three dudes grabbed and ran at the same time?
CCM is not as small as is it used to be. The store now includes Tara's old studio. It's actually quite long with a back section/room that is out of view if you are close to the main desk. Really glad they got one back. Props to Sean for being so quick to act.
This article goes into a little more depth... http://newyork.cbslocal.com/tag/louis-lassalle/ Makes a lot more sense that the paintings were stollen from the storage room.
He's dead...So probably not. Basquiat became a junkie and I think he pretty much pissed of all his clients by the time he died.
