I've been getting into the spirit as well. I think we should really just re-title this thread Habs/Bruins Rivalry. As not many other fan bases tend to post

Bruins have really left me hanging all summer wondering what they'll do as they are hard pressed for cap space with a ton of people to sign this year and next. They need to lose Chris Kelly and his over paid $3 million hit like a bad habit! Boston could not buy him out because he was hurt end of last season but I wonder if they still can before this season? Probably not which sucks.

They still need to sign Smith and Krug to bridge contracts (something you Montreal fans know all about with Subban) which will suck because over the long run you end up paying more. Stupid fucking salary cap @ 69 mil. Just make it $80 million already. I mean fucking hell can't the owners see they fucked themselves? Ohhh we're upset we got duped into paying too much on some contracts long term, let's lower it. Yeah that's working because the agents/players are going to want to play for less...nope!

The Bruins need help on the RW and need to lose a D man. I will lose my mind if they sacrifice Destroychuk. Lose Barkowski I say. He sucks.

I just read about Montreal's 4 Alternate captains thing. Dumb move. Turtleneck or Markov should have gotten the "C". Subban an A? No leadership in him- sorry.

Also have Sept 23rd and Oct 16th marked down on the calendar  Now will Lucic beat the living crap out of Weise in the regular season or pre?

Haha! Honestly, I don't see them finding one either. There isn't one on the squad....

If it was up to the fans, I'd vote for Pavs.

All the Sharks fans Ive been speaking to have been saying the same about Pavs. My only problem is that he has been quiet in the post as of late. What do you think about Vlasic? Other than those two names I don't really see leadership qualities anywhere else on the current squad.

Those would be my 2 picks. Pavs may not have the production in the last post season but you can see he plays with passion. Couture might eventually wear an 'A' but yeah...slim pickins. Maybe they should make John Scott the Capt

I agree with Couture, maybe when he gets more mature and stops trying to chase every skirt in the bay area. But I have to say I like his on ice passion, especially with his size. Man, john scott probably has more leadership qualities than our vets! I def see something in Pavs, Couture, and Vlasic. I wonder how that would affect the vets....

Uggggh having to watch a Bruins Habs game with French Canadian announcers is not fun. But a Spooner breakaway goal immediately helps

So how was the game overall? Are the new players promising?

(Speaking of Montreal, nice Brown avatar Chris)

Good game actually! I actually didn't even care the Bruins lost. I just wanted to see the rookies trying to make the teams (or AHLers). Svedberg didn't look so hot, but Spooner & Fraser did. For Montreal that McCarron kid looks like a beast, checking anything that moved. I think he had an awkward fall though into the net in the third, hope he's not hurt too bad.

Oh and wow, someone that actually recognizes my avatar! Yep it's Christian the zombie? cannibal from Ed the Happy Clown by Chester Brown. In the early nineties I was really into that graphic novel (along with I Never Liked You, and Jim Woodring's Frank). For some reason yesterday I decided to scan it and make it my avatar.

How was Subban the goalie? For entertainement value, it'd be great if he played in a regular season game vs the Habs.

I'm a big Chester Brown fan myself. Ed the Happy Clown is amazing. Have you read his latest, Payign For It? Good stuff.

(and no one has recognized mine yet!)

I wonder if Brown is on Habs of Leaf side, he's from Chateaugay. Hmmm.
Didn't see much from Subban but he got a nice round of applause when he
came in, so that was nice.

It is nice to have the Hawks back on... Even more so when Green Bay is sucking.

So what's the deal with Eastern Canadians and hockey? I get the whole people in Quebec being for the Habs and people in Ontario being for the Leafs (and for that matter Manitoba being for the Jets, British Columbia for the Canucks, and Alberta can fight it out with the Flames and Oilers) but where does Ottawa fit in? What happens in Quebec if you get the Nordiques back? Is there a big stink between the Montreal and Toronto fans? More so than the rivalry btw the Bruins? I need to know.

I only get perspective from the US side. Like stupid Sabres fans hate Philly because of the Stanley Cup from the 70's. Really? Seems odd to hate a team for an event 40 years ago when the team first started? I get the hate for my Bruins (because Lucic ran their beloved goaltender Miller over)- that's semi-fresh. When I worked at the Buffalo News the building was located literally right next to First Niagara center where the Sabres play. So I know how annoying Leafs fans are (I often tried to run several over leaving work!). I guess Bruins and Habs fans can agree on that at least- Leafs and their fans suck. Whenever I hear about Canadian teams though it seems the Habs are the national pride of the whole country. Or is that just a historical thing since they've been around the longest? Or is more a French Canadian thing? See I have good questions for the Canadian contingent here on SB. This stuff interests me.

Far from it in fact Lixx. While cheering for the Habs, especially given their winning record, would seem to be the obvious choice (kinda like cheering on Bayern München), it is quite the opposite. The Laffs are Canada's de facto team by and large, sadly. A lot of it probably does stem from anglo-francophone relations and history, but also just because we are basically inundated with all things Toronto-centric across the country. I could go on and on about this, but basically, in other non-hockey markets across the country, you will find more Leafs fans than otherwise. Sad, but true. As for intra-Quebec rivalries, including with the potential Nordiques, believe me, they are many and heated.

Thank fuck Chia got Krug and Smith for 1 year bridge deals today. After Savard's LTIR goers into effect we'll be under the cap! Woo hoo and it didn't take losing Destroychuk! Now if only we could keep McQuaid and lose Bartkowski & Kelly I'm happy (until next year when we have to sign people like Soderberg and Hamilton).

This season can't start soon enough for me but I can't seem to find a reliable illegal feed to watch games on. :| I really don't want to bite the NHL Gamecenter bullet of $159 but might have to. Does anyone else use that here? I could care less about losing local market games like the Sabres because I'm a Bruins fan BUT would I be able to watch all the Bruins games on it? Might be worth it to watch in high definition on the PS3 instead of blurry feeds from god knows where giving my Mac viruses with 6 million pop up ads.

OMFG! Chia you are fucking killing me!!!!! You traded Boychuk for practically a can of beans! WTF? Two 2nd an 3rd round picks from the fucking Islanders. Are you nuts?! You had so many other players you could have dealt. Kelly, Campbell, Bartkowski, Miller, lots of good prospects. You are a fucking moron! Well there goes the Bruins cup chances. Boychuk it a top 4 d-man and not a fucking liability like almost all of those young d-men the Bruins tout so much. Just because we lost to the Habs doesn't mean we have to turn our team into tiny town. I say keep the big guys.

Season opener tonight, and I am stoked. Bring on the hockey already. Habs-Leafs is always a good way to start, and he is hoping for Montreal to get off to a good - if at least steady - season. Weird to think Frankie B is gone, not that he was key or anything, just seemed a fixture for so long.

The Bruins have a lot of untested young talent coming in which could go either way. Krechi is out on IR and we don't have Boychuk anymore. I'm a little worried. Then again the Flyers suck. Not much HW will be done tonight!

Here is the funniest blog predication of the Bruins season I've ever read in my life:

    http://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2014 ... 015-season

Incidentally I've already received a warning from this SB Nation Bruins fan page for calling someone a pussy. Sheesh people are so sensitive. I guess it could be construed as sexist, but it's just so much more effective than calling someone a weenie when they're being passive aggressive online. It's hockey for fucks sake?!

Yeah after watching the first two Bruins games all I can say is it's going to be a long long season. I thought I was watching the bad news bears or the Providence B's (well actually a large portion of the team seems to be them). Very pathetic. Lucic looks lost, those rookies keep serving up giveaways, and why hasn't Eriksson been traded? He's a complete bust! Can we just clone Bergeron and make the whole team him?

OK seriously WTF?! The Bruins actually show up today play a good game it's tied 1-1 and on the last .03 seconds of the game fucking Briere puts in a fluke goal! WTF hockey gods? Why are you torturing me so? I just keep telling myself in 2012 the Bruins entire month of October sucked. Loss after loss. Then they only had 4 losses in the next 2.5 months.

Is there a reason why Julien started Rask tonight? Is Svedberg that bad?
