I just received this Mothra from Japan. The price was $25 so I bought it figuring no matter what version of the Bullmark this is, even a fake, I can't lose. It's standard size, about 12.5" across. It certainly "feels" like older vinyl to me, but after scouring the internet for a week, I can find no similar paint scheme. Can anyone help ID this one? Bootleg, modern repop, vintage variation? Any help is appreciated! The blue is more of a rich medium to dark blue than the picture shows.
That's the 1st thing I did. It has a cigarette undertone to it, but I think it also smells like my Hawaiian Bullmark Baragon. I can't be sure because of the nicotine though. It does not smell like any of my new vinyls. The vinyl is stiffer than my Baragon though.
does appear to be the same one... says 1991 bandai reissue http://www.amazon.com/Super-Internation ... 718&sr=8-1 totally worth it... it was like kaiju 101 for me...
looks like the bandai reissue. Notice the location of the stamp. never have been able to figure out if the original bullmark was ever released with a stamp on underneath the body.
Thats good info, thanks. I have never had a real Bullmark, so I could not compare. I did notice the Bullmark stamp seemed "Weak" compared to my other.
Thanks! I love the sculpt, thought the paint was fun, and as you said, a great price. Mothra was one of my favorites as a kid, so I will always have a soft spot for him.
Here is a picture of my Bullmark Mothra adult and larva. Perhaps this will help you in some way. http://www.flickr.com/photos/39937478@N08/4409276349/
Beautiful pieces! I saw that picture while going through flickr, but I did not blow it up & see the Bullmark on the back until now.
Thank you. Still...even though yours is a reissue {part of the 1992 Bandai Toho Kaiju series..if I am correct}, it makes a nice addition to any collection. Enjoy.
After searching for a while for a vintage one for purchase, I thought I was pretty well versed in all of the Mothra variants out there, and how to tell the reissues by the various companies from the vintage ones. Then I came across this. Anyone familiar with it? The seller claims it is original vintage (and all the other items he/she sold appeared to be vintage), and it certainly has the Bullmark stamp on the TOP of the back, consistent with other vintage ones. But this color scheme is new to me. I can't find any record of a Hawaiian Mothra. Thoughts? Thanks. x
I was eyeing that one but couldnt tell either so i passed as it didnt match up with club Tokyo pics. It looks sweet though. Good luck on finding out. The baragon he sold was also nice!
Thanks. Well, I took the dive on it and was lucky enough to have won with little opposition (glad you bowed out! ). There was a nice brown version Marusan a month ago, but one of the little whiskers was broken off. Such a shame. I would have went hard at that. But this is a very satisfying consolation prize, since the color schemes are sort of similar. These are all the variations/issues of this mold that I know of (and it was not in the Super7 Mook either): Marusan (vintage - 1966) - brown with gold eyes and pink with silver eyes: http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemL ... tentID=433 Bullmark (1970) - dull and metallic paints: http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemL ... tentID=692 Marusan (modern - 199 - several variations similar to the vintages with subtle differences: http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemL ... tentID=442 Bandai (2001) - Is this actually B-Club? http://www.clubtokyo.org/articles/chart ... ?catID=Art M1 (2009) http://www.clubtokyo.org/listings/itemL ... entID=2362 Am I missing anything?
I wish we had more activity in the vintage section! I'm curious to see if some peeps came across this color scheme as well.
The photo is no longer there for me to look at, but yes, there is a hawaii version mothra, and I am still looking for it!
