Violence Toy

Violence Toy is a new line that debuted at MondoCon in Austin earlier this month. It's part of Middle of Beyond, a super cool company that sells amazingly weird sweaters, Christmas ornaments, and other cool stuff. This immediately shot up to one of my favorite toy lines right up there with MVH. The first line is supposed to come in boxes (they didn't have them at MondoCon), but Ezra was cool enough to show me a preview of the headers, which is done in the style of Ghana movie poster art. SUPER cool and unique (you can look at Middle of Beyond's t-shirts if you want an idea).

Their first line was a collection of 10 one-off glow-in-the-dark models. I was fortunate to score 2 of them. Kind of regret not buying a 3rd!

These are feckin' awful, top to bottom.
Utterly charmless.

 

Clicking through the site there is one shot of one sculpt and it looks pretty neat. Seems the glow in the dark vinyl color plus the one-off paint applications are kind of hiding the sculpted details. I would like to see other versions or maybe even some blanks.

 

Pretty been-done-ish. I do like the bottom red Trollborg singularly, he seems to be the strongest combination of pieces... that blocky 3-toed body and some of the arms though, so lifeless. There are more poorly lit photos of these from different angles on the website, which combined gives an idea of what a well lit photo might look like, and shows off all the details which is the best thing about these guys.

 

"Violence Toy" is a great name, though. A+ name game, not personally into the toys.

 

I feel like that two-mouthed head is great, but they've dialed it all back to keep that 'bootleg' feel. I've never understood that, though. Vinyl toys are damn expensive, I want some quality - there are plenty of cheap, nasty bootleg action figures around that capture this vibe at a fraction of the price.

Dislike each and every one of them. So many bad designs are coming out recently. Fix the stocky arms and legs and these might look a little better. Awful price too.

These are horrible (in a bad way).
Not everything that can be done needs to be done.
I cannot see any particular skill or idea/vision behind these.

 

They're a lot bigger than I thought. I don't really see much that appeals to me personally. The sculpt and paint are just too sloppy for me. The Trollborg's body looks like a bad attempt at a Nag body.

 

I must admit, I did not expect the reaction here to be so....violent

 

You should've been around 5 years or so back . . . I'd say this waste of vinyl got let off pretty gently!

I've been told Chinese big money bought all the trolls and had them replaced with cheerleaders. Obviously management is anxious for a smooth transition.

 

If I had to 'critique' every piece of poorly conceived, malformed shite from all the no-name, no-talent western fuckin' wannabe's that gets posted on Sulkdrain I'd never get any work done!

Work quietens down mid November and I got a whole world of hate to keep me warm over Winter though!
