Just a bit of background on the settings for these photos. These were taken in the San Carlos Hotel in Downtown Phoenix, aka The Heart of Phoenix. At one point, it was rated and even hailed as one of the most haunted places in the country. Not sure where it stands now as far as the country, but it still holds top 10 in Arizona. These particular shots were taken in what's called the Ghost Lounge. I was permitted by staff to take these around midnight last night.
Stunning and chilling. That eye, in the photo it looks alive. Like one of the spirits has taken over the toy.
After I took these, I roamed the halls on the third floor and snapped random photos to see if anything might show up. There's a weird, green tint on the carpet in a couple. But it may just be reflections from the ceiling lights. But I did have a series of spaced knocking in the walls following me as I progressed down the hallways.
I gave thanks on the Instagram post, but would also like to extend it here, as well. So, thank you! This toy is so awesome, on so many levels. I grew up with the Crypt Keeper scaring the hell out of me as a kid, and I've heard stories about the San Carlos since around the same age. There's so much character and personality in this toy, not to mention how cool the homage is to a family member of Joe.
Very cool. Did you put more up somewhere else? It's pretty stunning how well the toy fits in those first shots. Really looks like the manager of the hotel in some odd horror film.
I need some killer pics of some more of these Splurrt goodies all I scores were the Serpent Satas that Joe had with him.
Still kickin' myself for missin' those Serpent Sata. Such a cool mid - size. I've definitely got some plans in the works for Splurrt toys!
My wife was so happy to get an Uncle Steve(with a little help). And I was floored to get this mash up. Which really needs to happen as a run, even though I know it might be impossible.
^ I hope a future release of this amazing SPLURRT x MVH mash up is not impossible, David. Congrats!!! Well, I got the charming Uncle Steve with a little help, too... And a Gala Night was held to celebrate his arrival! Uncle Steve was delighted to watch it all from main balcony of the glamorous Gold Ballroom. Welcome home, Uncle Steve!!! I love you... ❤
^^ Definitely!! I agree. That needs to be in version 2.0 Joe. (3.0 needs to be a soakie, of course) Steve is a handsome fella, if I do say so myself. I just love the detail in the little guy, and the photos you guys have been posting have been amazing. Really suits him. This was a hard toy to miss.
Thank you all very much! Uncle Steve has so much personality. He somehow manages to be both a cute and terrifying mascot of the dead. A wind up version would be super, super rad. Especially the spark coming from the missing eye, as suggested! I also agree an ascot and pipe would make him quite sophisticated.
He smokes souls Also agree on uncle sparky. Nice shots as always, Robert. You've really got a great understanding of a toy's character, and thru your images, you present the personality layer of your focus with ease.
I got to see Uncle Steve at MPH recently and he's great. Full of character and charisma. Would deff love to add one to my collection, with an Adams family butlers vibe.
Really looking forward to the marbled mixed Cadaver Kids and other marbled toys he will be coming up with this year.
