The closest that you're likely to get to me having something nice to say about the Eagles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9F-no5av-s Wasn't hep to Fever Ray, by the way. Thanks for that. The Langley Schools Music Project - Desperado
Had occasion to quote this song at a friend a few minutes ago. He had no idea what I was talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG5rcxiTc80 Checked out the Soft Boys again a few years ago, still pretty great, but I can't remember the last time I listened to Mr. Hitchcock on his own. Besides the moment before this post, that is.

This little hook/moment from OTC's first album popped in my head and wouldn't leave until I figured out which song that it was hiding in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqObqcM654c 3m38s, in case you were wondering. The Olivia Tremor Control - Holiday Surprise 1,2,3.
On August 22nd of last year I heard this song in a Kroger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlbunmCbTBA Weird, right? Television - Marquee Moon
Good stuff those last two. Olivia Tremor Control and Apples in Stereo were in heavy rotation for me back in the late '90s.
^ Earlier '90s for me, but yeah, lots of Elephant 6. And speaking of being old, I think it might have been See No Evil... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7L0IYPXKj8 Still odd to hear Television in a chain grocery store, either way. Edit: More furry brain business --- looking at some release dates I suppose my fixation with that scene did last into the late '90s, and maybe even into the aughts. '94 was the big year, though. Kinda crazy that Neutral Milk Hotel became such a big thing, huh? Good for them.
Laaaate reply, but THANK YOU. That's going on my birthday list for sure. It's funny, that's probably the only real reason why I would want a kid... to mold some hope for humanity that will live on past my death. My parents were awesome and bought me all these science books, Encarta 95, showed the movies and music they loved, and dragged me to museums even though I didn't want to. As an adult I appreciate it all so much, and my parents are literally two of my closest friends. I think that's the way it should be. Not enough parents introduce their kids to education and culture, but instead rely on "age-appropriate teaching." ...Have you ever had the misfortune to sit through at least 5 minutes of the kid's show "Bubble Guppies"? You'll basically want to slit your own throat. ANYWAY. Ran off on a tangent there. This is my current obsession.
S'more Godz, in a short film by Jud Yalkut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJabNnPOVQU The soundtrack is an unreleased medley of Lay in the Sun and Turn On, both originally found on their first record, Contact High With The Godz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6_xUZ-7spE Same footage, but soundtracked this time by Radar Eyes and Permanent Green Light, taken from Godz 2. Not everyone's cuppy - how could they be? - but I've loved these dudes for a long time.
I realize this message is somewhat antithetical to the toy collectors, but I can't listen to metal all the time.
My sister was completely unaware that post-hardcore is still alive and kicking despite losing popularity in the late 2000's... So I played some catch-up with her today to bring her up to speed. Probably the most intense song about a hallway you'll ever hear.
