You were correct with your photo content/toy festival, but James is right in spirit that I could have gone and found them on the greater interwebs just as you did. Mah apologies for the confusion. And thanks again for posting.

Are we all straightened out now? ;)

Yup! Ragon's the winner! Look kinda like angry chicken from that angle, though.

Anyone recognize this face? It looks very distinct, but I can't place it.

The new primitive man series is very cool. I really love how much thought and detail went into them, and how they are all so distinct from one another. Another 'passion' project I would judge, and something he has probably had in his mind for some time. I really dig them. And, as I have said a few times in my 'dream requests,' they will make sure wonderful accompaniments for a shelf (if only it could be!) of Buta dinos.

The icing would be if these were all sold hodgpodge in one giant prehistoric baggie together.

Now I just dread learning what the inevitable exclusive release is going to be like. :? I can already see the requests - and gouging - forming...

As I had mentioned in the SuFes thread, what hurts even more than missing out on this fun set, is knowing that the generous gesture of offering these for a fundraiser for earthquake relief is going to be exploited. And I was not wrong.

Not sure what the comments on the his latest post refer to exactly, but I know I am extremely angry and disappointed to see the same usual flippers active in this particular horse race. :x

Perhaps someone can offer more insight into the translation:
    もとワラビ

    買った後に「今日発売は何ですか?」と問われ
    (何で今のタイミングかなぁ・・?)なんて思い

    「Sahelanthrops tchadensis、Australopithecus afarensis、Homo habilis、
    Homo georgicus、Homo erectus、Homo heidelbergensis、
    Homo neanderthalensis、Homo sapiens

When asked "What is released today?" After I bought
(I wonder what can I now of timing ...?) Nante think

"Sahelanthrops tchadensis, Australopithecus afarensis, Homo habilis,
Homo georgicus, Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis,
Homo neanderthalensis, is the eight of Homo sapiens. "
~ I wonder I can not say Nante, Naa I do not remember even this man as was said -
    Nante think carefree
    If you answered "hominid"

    Next day,
Phone and are on the auction as "Homo erectus set".
    Story called "Arama".

Getting mad about flippers is a waste of time. A bunch of hardcore Buta collectors got sets, too. Smile about that and move on.

Umm, do you know what board you are on? And what is the internet for if not venting inane frustrations and wasting time? Obviously I am happy for those who were able to get a set, but I don't think that one really affects the other at all, and honestly, am surprised to see that suggested. Guess I am just not hardcore enough.

But anyways, my post was in reference to Oohashi-san donating profits from these toys to earthquake relief, and then people turning about and using them purely for private gain. Of course this is the norm, and I expect it, but that does not mean it won't leave a bad taste in my mouth when it happens.

At least those flippers ended up donating to a good cause. My point is simply that the glass can always be half full, or half empty. I enjoy the hobby more when it's half full.

^^^ Gentlemen, I see both of your points. That said, I do wish that I was one of the hardcore Buta collectors that landed these beauties. 'Praps in time.

As John's pic seems to have disappeared, here's a posterity presentation that I prepared:
TOP - Sahelanthrops tchadensis; Australopithecus afarensis; Homo habilis; Homo georgicus
BOTTOM - Homo erectus; Homo heidelbergensis; Homo neanderthalensis; Homo sapiens

Also viewable in the shadow DB. :)

The flippers did not donate if they were able to flip them. The flipper got their money back and then some. The person buying at the flipper price are the ones that actually can be consider the one that donated.

That is the way I see it too, and I cannot believe someone would try to condone their actions here.

The money would go to a good cause either way, these would not have been clogging up tables at SF if not for flippers. It is only them profiteering in addition. But now, in the meantime 'hardcore' Buta fans as you put it will have to shell out triple the amount to get a set, if they can, and meanwhile sets of these will just be considered 'stock' in some guys YJA pile - for potential years - rather than being loved and enjoyed. When flippers buy toys, they are essentially pulling them out of circulation. And I would rather see any appreciating fan get these, even if it wasn't me (that is the difference from my glass half-fill perspective) than no one being able to enjoy them. If I miss out on an amazing sale on SB, it doesn't bother me, as someone else here who loved that toy will give it a great home. And to this end I have helped out a lot of people on here when I could. So in those situations I have no sour grapes at all, and am happy for the buyer. But I completely differentiate losing to a bs flipper vs. a fellow collector. With respect, we will just have to disagree on that.

Trying to find a silver lining is not the same as "condoning" flipping. Other than that, happy to let it drop.

So if I had let's say, an osaka mini set that I paid flipper price for but I traded it for a couple of the older dinos that somebody paid the original 35usd for, it should be no harm, no foul, right? The dino owner realizes some appreciation on his or her trade items and I get what I want (dinos dinos dinos) at what today's most likely price would be, if available. Otherwise we need something like a clearing house for trades with point values for money, condition, reputation and karma or something. Does Mr. Ohashi cast all of these himself? Has he ever considered slightly larger runs? I would love to get and keep more of the micros once I get the dinos, but it's just insanely hard...

The significant factor for the size of the micro runs, I'm guessing, is that he paints them all himself. I can only imagine how long it would take to hand brush even a dozen sets of six, what with all that intricate detailing. That's of lot of stooping and squinting!

As long as I'm in here...

^ But of course! Every single painted toy that he's released, with the exception of the pocket S-Taiin that was sold in his store, were prettied up by his own hand. Technical exceptions are his Thrashman sculpt, released by the Gargamel crew, and the recent Bullmark style King Goji, which was a factory job by Medicom.

To me, the only question is maybe the last one. My guesses (in order): club, stone knife/hammer tool, bone, arrowhead/spear tool, and then maybe fire/torch(?)

Hmmmm... well I can see the bone, one looks to be holding a fudgcicle pop, and the others to put it politely, look like they just finished shopping at the "Good vibrations" store in San Francisco :oops::oops:

...i still think they look like mini turds;)

Haha, yes exactly Grace, that would be the latter fellow of which I was postulating. Your explanation works as good as any; he is, after all, he 'modern human.'

I also have to say that I find it somewhat ironic that of all the genus pictured in this set, the one without a tool of any sort is homo habilis.

I've only got two of the four graspers to eyeball for my own self, but from the pictures I'd say:
branch; stone; bone; shiv; squid. :)
