I do apologize this is a bit of a purge...
I have been working on King Liger here for about over a year and have him ready to be made into a Sofubi action figure via Kickstarter! I wanted to give you a brief rundown of everything you need to know, and AGAIN, so sorry this pretty much purges many posts that should have already been made...
King Liger! A masked wrestler hailing from the Gujarat State of India. Hood of King liger has been passed down for generations and every warrior who wore it specialized in a different style of fighting. This is the newest incarnation of his families' lineage and specializes in a Pro Wrestling style.

SO as you can see, I have gotten to lion's share of prepping for this project to go to Japan. Once I am funded for this project, Luke Rook and Amy Osowski of Grody Shogun toys and Lulubell Toy Bodega will be assisting in the over-seeing of the the process in Japan and distribution. So he's in good hands.
So here is the link to the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geoffmaxfield/the-lord-of-beasts-

I am not asking you to back this (That is entirely up to you), but the more the word is spread about it, the better. Please help wherever possible and thank you for you time (sorry for the lengthy post).

I agree, this toy is really cool! I've always loved and collected wrestling figures so this is up my alley. I'd definitely buy a painted version. Do you plan on releasing a painted run? Have you ever painted soft vinyl? Congrats on taking it this far and good luck!

This really has a vintage action figure vibe to it. I'm curious to see where this goes! I can totally see a Luke Grody Shogun paint job looking awesome on these guys. If he's taking care of the production, you should definitely ask him if he's up for some painting!

Cool figure! He looks like a bad-ass!

BUT even cooler is that you've produced your own electro-plated molds which would reduce production costs and time a great deal. I think this is the first time I've seen somebody do that in their own backyard. Great work!

Thanks, guys! About painting... I have slightly dabbled in it, but I need a better air brush for a more precise spray. Right now the campaign is set for orange blanks of him just to keep the cost down for production and a black exclusive. I would love to have it done in the future for sure though! And don't forget that the Kickstarter is LIVE! (The link might have gotten lost in the clutter of that last post) Here is the link to check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geoffmaxfield/the-lord-of-beasts-king-liger-the-action-figure
Please spread the good word! :)

Again on the painting: I always am down for an awesome, whimsical kaiju-style spray, but also really like detailed ones with masking... Which do you think would be the better?

I pledged for a blank orange one. I plan on painting it. I think masks would be cool, like for the tiger stripes. But some looser sprays that fit the body type would fit it just fine

Nice to see so many improvements over the last kickstarter you did. Really does look like you took a bunch of advice and went all out this time while cutting the amount of money needed to fund it by quite a bit. Hope it works out this time.

THANKS Bleeding Edges! Everybody keep spreading the good word about it!
Another paint idea: What about doing a black rub on him? I really liked how those turn out kinda like this little number: [IMG]

Although I too am a fan of rubs, I think the toy has a lot to do with whether it looks right or comes across as messy or unfinished. To be honest, I'm not sure how rubs alone will fare here, since they tend to work best with more detailed sculpts, but it's certainly worth experimenting if you like the look.

I look forward to what you come up with.

Thanks for the heads up, Boon. Just a heads up that King Liger is nearly half-way funded, but time is dwindling in the campaign. I want to let you know that I did add a new lower backing reward to have some pixel art done for you in the style of the sprites seen peppered through the campaign page like so: [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG]
Please help where ever possible be it sharing the page anywhere possible or even backing it. Thank you again and here is the link again: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geoffmaxfield/the-lord-of-beasts-king-liger-the-action-figure

Really cool, you actually made the mold. I think you are the only person I have ever seen do that. Assuming that mold is good to go and Luke and the factory think your joints are ok, why even bother with the Kickstarter? You don't need it. It's a small 2 piece figure, probalby like 5 or 6 bucks a pull. Just send that mold off, pull like 20 or 30 in a color, it will cost like $100-200, sell them and pull more. Unless I'm missing something about the purpose of the mold.

Just my 2 cents dude, finish it off, don't rely on a kickstarter.

Just catching up, but joe is right. All is needed is the frame and that's it. You literally did all the hard stuff which is quite amazing.

    Joe,
You do raise a good point. The plan with kickstarter was to get a decent size run made. Then it would cover the added expenses of the factory (sevice fees, taxes, ect.), but the biggest part is the shipping. Some of the other expenses are miscellaneous, but all part of the calculations to meet the goal (I will say that I get frustrated that some of that are bits that taken by Kickstarter... so yah that part sucks on their part). So your pretty close on point for the pulls. I want to see how the Kickstarter fairs first. If it doesn't work out, that will be a good plan B, be it a slightly slower plan, but that should still be effective. Thanks again.

This is really, really cool! Thank you so much for showing the process. It's pretty inspiring to see that someone did the bulk of the work by themselves at their home. Congratulations on the successful kickstarter campaign! Just on the figure, I'm really digging that over-the-top 90's wrestler feel. Great stuff!

I know it's been a while, but I wanted to let you all know that King Liger's production is about to be underway in Japan. More on this as it develops.
