Weird, I could have sworn I responded to this already. But anyways, it is a bit odd, but I think there must be some reason(s) why certain characters, like ol' M1 or Mummy, were never made into toys. What those reasons are or were, I cannot guess. If it was a pure licensing issue, as to something that had to do with the characters (maybe designed/created by someone else), then I wonder why Marmit eventually got around to releasing sculpts of them [but still, the only ones to do so]. But I think that Yuji, while he has done some of his own sculpts as well, still turns very much to the original Marusan/Bullmark line, so that may be why we haven't seen one of him. There are a number of characters I would like to see Yuji's take on - M1-Go being one of them - and still hold out hope we might seem them realised in vinyl one day. I wonder if/wouldn't be surprised that he might have some exploratory sketches for prototype figures to see what they might look like. Oooh, just thinking of the playful imaginings that he could share some day, if he chose to! Orrrrrr....... maybe it is a simple case of just worrying about name confusion! ^_-
Yep, that is the Marmit version. (i.e. a re-release of their earlier sculpt) This is the fourth colourway/version of the guy. I think just X-Plus might be the only other large scale version of the figure.
The fourth colorway of their second large sculpt of him! I wonder why ultrakaijyu doesn't cover the Vinyl Paradise line.
Well, I don't consider the PB a 'large' line, as it is well below what we call standard sized (9"), but fair point David. (you just have to add in a little something, eh? )
Seriously? You're going to make me do this? Did I mention ParaBaby? I was trying not to be didactic by bringing in Marmit's third sculpt of the character. Do these toys look the same to you? The VP is around 11" tall.
Nah, you are just misreading what I said, once again. It's all good though. But anyways, yes, we can all agree that both VP and PB versions of the character are great!
Well, you'd said, "I think just X-Plus might be the only other large scale version of the figure," so I wasn't adding in a little something, I was correcting. Excellent derail, gentlemen. Thanks for playing!
I was going through an old SD card of mine for something, and I came across a trove of toy pics I had taken but never ended up posting here. So apologies for posting some pics now from a few years back. (but hey, any excuse to post up in one of my favourite threads too!) And we are getting dangerously close to having a page in the M1-dedicated thread... with just one M-Ichigo* toy on it. Well, we can't have that, sooo.... I don't usually go in that much for unpainted toys, but I do so love this sculpt. So this toy is mighty fine in my books. * okay, in all fairness now, there is no way I can make the differentiation clear(er), so let's just agree to go with it. Kaiju semantics, eh?
for me it doesn't get any better than that sculpt right there @ultrakaiju... that hedorah is perfection. and to pile on with old pics that never got posted anywhere, here's one of mine: m1go - matango because there is no such thing as too much yujimade goodness
Preach, brother! Ain't that the truth. That is one delightful mushroom patch you have there, Charlie. Just looking at their rainbow domes is making me so happy *and not a little bit jealous. Yuji fulfilled my every fantasy with this sculpt, and then went ahead and further blew my mind with all of his amazing paints on them. As a fellow Matango fan, I can say I cannot get enough. Now if I could just get those spores to spread around my place and start generating new plots of mushrooms, I would be one happy fella. Lovely photo @chimmychazz, so amazing to see them all lined up, and no small accomplishment in collecting either.
I've had the worst time finding a definitive checklist of M1 Matango releases. Does Fun9us have an account here? I'd love to see a detailed breakdown of his collection of shrooms.
@BlasphemousWords You've probably come across this before, but Club Tokyo has a good amount of them tracked. Fun9us does indeed hang out around here, although not as often as we'd like anymore. He goes by @smo9monster.
Love the photo. It should be noted even though M1 release this Matango, it was not Yuji who designed it. Masami Yamada-san designed the Matango. And he originally offered the design to Marusan. Marusan had rejected it. Then he showed Yuji who liked it and had the figure made. It's unclear if Masami did the actual sculpting or Yuji. But I believe Masami most likely did the prototype since he is also a sculptor. And since we are on the subject of Matango figures, Masami also designed and sculpted the Toygraph Matango Enoki version.
That's so interesting, Anthony. I did not know any of that. Where did you come by this information? @chimply.kaiju
Who let foto in here?! What are peoples thoughts on the M1 Vinyl Wars stuff? Is there a reason the majority of the paint apps arent as pushed as usual M1 stuff?
Yuji custom from a Bandai Gomess and M1 Haruo Nakajima head. Even though Nakajima-san is know for playing the showa Godzilla, he also wore various Ultra kaiju suits. Gomess being one of them. This was up for auction not to long ago starting price 150,000 yen. I don't remember if it sold or not as I forgot to follow it.
Cooler in concept than execution, but I'm very glad that you shared this with us. I might just have to try it at home!
