Looks as though I'm way late to the party, but I've just now learned that our own @plastichunter has been immortalized in the material that informed one of his many names!

Yes, I know that Kenth Toy Works is a Japanese company, but who's more of an American Idol than Connell? That, and I guess that Lulubell have their lovely hands in this project as well.

People, please tell me more, and let's get some fresh, hot pics up in this place!

I've been following this toy on IG, and this is seriously the most amazing ode to a toy collector ever.
KTW did a stellar (haha) job of immortalizing Connell in sofubi. They definitely have my respect for doing this, because I can't think of anyone in the community who is more deserving of the honor!

    I agree, we need pics!

This is too cool. Full props to KTW for making this happen - and an amazing execution to boot, from the looks of things - and big thumbs up to Connell for being immortalised in this fashion. Rightly so, I can't think of a brainer more deserving. At first glance I took the figure to be pretty hefty/standard sized, but looking at the photo, seeing that it is more of an 'action figure' scale actually has me even more excited. This scale is far too neglected for my mind, and honestly, the toy looks completely rad without any connection at all anyhow. But the masterfully used model kit box, the crazy futuristic design, the nod to Bullmark's spacemen and pulp sci-fi, the changeable faces - man, there is just so much on this toy to love. Connell, you are the man, in toy form and the flesh, it is official. This guy is right up my alley; pure fun, and I can't wait to see some folks enjoy Connell - and him enjoying himself - on the shelves alongside other great vinyl toys. :)

It's really a cool piece in person. Since I was so unprepared for D-Con (having only known of it's existence for maybe a month) I blew through my money before I could get one. It's a little smaller than I expected but that doesn't take away from the figure whatsoever. I'm looking forward to variations in the future!

Connell said that Kenth based the colors of this painted dcon release off of an old Japanese show. Does anyone recognize what character that would be?

@boon velvet - Well, the palette (and metal ascot!) are pretty damn Gundam...

...but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the homage is directed at a wholly different mechanical.

Sorry, I should say that he also used the words "obscure", "vintage", and "tribute" so I would think Gundam is out, unless maybe he means obscure Gundam character. And with "tribute", I assume the colorway's more of an accurate clone to the original material.

One of those many obscure tokusatsu shows is what came to mind. I see similarities to some, but I don't know enough of them to pinpoint a specific character. Who should we page? :D

    Metal Ascot

Back before I dragged them to the most recent Skullbrainer show at Clutter, my parents tried to sit down and give me "the talk." No, not the birds and the bees, but the "why are you buying all these toys? You're an adult now, you should have grown out of this. When are you going to grow up?"
I literally brought up Connell's IG and handed them my phone, and said "Tell that to this guy."
Between Connell and seeing for themselves that the average sofubi collector is 30+, they've given up on trying.
So yeah, when I grow up I want to be like Connell too!

I need to call my toys "art" when my parents are at my place or they start getting mad at how much I have spent.

Does anyone here know anything about Chiba-san, the fellow responsible for the box art?

Still wondering that myself, looks to good to not have a body of work to see more.

Is the sword separate or part of the sculpt?

From other pics I have seen, I think it is molded into the hand, but the blade of the sword itself is a separate piece that is inserted into it, a bit similar to the M1 Mitsurugi figure, which, if you think about it, makes a lot of sense from a molding and pulling perspective. I think it might also be a softer plastic material. But this is all conjecture, as I have not been fortunate to hold one in hand, much as I would just love to give Connell a good fondle.

Sword is sculpted in there. GREAT toy and I can't wait to see what other versions surface, my head is swimming with possibilities.

Oh really? Thanks for the clarification Jason! See, even from that pic, I would have thought otherwise, so it is great to hear the firsthand knowledge. And many congratulations on landing a mini many-e-faced Connell. Few toys have burst out on the scene completely unexpected like that, that have gotten me so incredibly excited.

Thanks for all the support guys. It has been a true honor for me to be immortalized in sofubi buy Kenth Toy Works. I first met Kenth about three years ago when he came over from Japan for a show that he was in at TAG. We really bonded through the help of his friend Yoshi who worked for us at TAG at the time. Before he left LA to return to Tokyo he said he wanted to do a toy of me. I thought he was joking at the time. Guess not! The toy is totally Kents idea and sculpted by him. There have only been a couple of releases so far. The first US release was at DCon at the Lulubelltoys booth which was also the first painted release, painted by Kenth. Kenths second painted release will be at the upcoming FUCKAIJU show in Hong Kong and will be featured at Aaron of UhOh Toys and Toy Art Gallery booth. I am planning a SKC show at Super7 toward the end of March next year with a group of other artist. There should be lots of surprises for that one so stay tuned.
Again thanks for all the lovely support.
All the best. Space Knight Connell

This is the new painted release by Kenth for the FUCKAIJU show this weekend in Hong Kong.
For those of you that were asking I'm trying to get more info on Chiba-san and the inspiration behind Kenths painted versions.
A couple of other things to clear up. The sword blade is a seperate piece from the hilt and is glued into the hilt for support. Because the sword blade, hilt hand, and arm are all one piece the sword blade tends to bend during shipping. Just a slight heat on the blade and positioning with your thumb and first finger should do the trick. Just be aware that the blade is glued in and don't pull to hard on it.
One other quick clarification. Lulubelltoys were kind enough to have the first US release at their booth at DCon. Other than that they have no involvement in Space Knight Connell.

I had the honor of meeting Connell and seeing the toy for the first time at DCON 2016. Completely blown away.. It's a killer tribute!

I'd absolutely LOVE to see an unpainted GID version!!

I'm still awed that this figure (and the Turtlegod benefit Crouching Zag) happened! I've never met Connell, but reading over old threads shows that you would be hard pressed to find a nicer member of this scene to immortalize in vinyl. Cheers Plastichunter, and let's post up some photos from that show, OK?
