    RIP Carrie Fisher
I am sure at this point not much more needs to be said. It is nevertheless very sad to lose another key figure of the screen, in a year that has taken from us a great many already. Blatantly honest, irreverent, and open with her life and struggles, it is sad to see her pass away at such a young age. I am sure I join fans around the world and former co-workers in marking her passing. She inspired generations of young women to be strong and true to themselves. And in Star Wars she really brought herself to the screen, and showed us how not every young damsel needs saving. It was a pivotal role not just for the franchise, but for film. She will be respected for her great body of work over many years, not the least of which is as an accomplished author and screenwriter, but it is without any degree of exaggeration at all that I say Princess Leia will live on forever.

2016 has been one massively cruel year in terms of deaths of beloved celebrities.
I kind of don't even know what to say anymore, I'm almost afraid I'll jinx something, as crazy as that sounds.
    RIP

So sad indeed. She left behind a widely-respected body of work that stretched far beyond the silver screen, she empowered women, and she was a positive role model who embraced being sassy.

General Organa will be greatly missed. Her books are quick and fun reads, very recommended.

A difficult time, I cannot even imagine what it is like to lose two family members like this. A very sad day for all of the Reynolds/Fisher family.

It bums me out even more that her mother passed away, its sad ad sweet at the same time. My mother definitely wanted to go when our sister passed away earlier this year. Burying your child has to be the hardest, at least now they can go together.

    She was too young.

As the princess, she really was one of the first women on the big screen i had a crush on. She was beautiful, sarcastic and she kicked arse. I loved her so much!

I always enjoy her performance in the Blues Brothers movie, too . . .

Heartening, in a way, to learn that her final big screen appearance won't be as a CG headscratcher - as everyone but me seems to have known, principal photography for VIII was completed this past summer.

I recall really enjoying her small roles in Hannah and Her Sisters and The 'Burbs, as far as '80s efforts went, and her recurring roll as Rob Delaney's mom on Catastrophe was a total hoot!

I wonder if the plan was for Leia not to be in Episode IX

Or if so, what changes now

As everyone else has said, this really is so sad; hearing about Debbie Reynolds was especially heartrending.
I'm pretty sure that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were the first actors' names that I ever knew.
And as selfish as it sounds, I was really relieved to know that filming for episode VIII has finished. I guess the plot for IX will be changed or Leia will be in it via some CG trickery.
