It took me over 10 years to collect enough hankeys to make this. My wife, the quilter, was kind enough to assemble this for me. Enjoy!
That could be the coolest thing ever. Even better that you put so much time in accumulating the pieces for it. That's really awesome.
Too cool. I always wondered what someone who bought these could do with them (other than blow your nose).
I've got friends and family in Cleavland... I'm going to have to ask you to start a Bed & Breakfast just so I can stay in that very room next I'm in town. Nice work, and the fact that it was a family affair makes it even cooler!
Wow! Great idea, and what an awesome practical application to enjoy your collection every day. So many nice hankys there. Some personal favourites are the collage of Ultraman Ace kaiju, Dustman, and Astroboy With the few I have picked up, maybe I could only achieve a small pillowcase.
That is awesome!!! I wish my Grandma would of had one of those for me when I was little. She had a lot of nice warm quilts but nothing like that. You and your wife did a great job!!! Very nice piece of artwork!!
This might be one of the best things ive ever seen on here. Completely rad. Ive come across these in different searches and been at a loss for what to do with them.
^^ Completely agree! Mark, this is amazing! I'm thinking post of the year! Tell your wife that there's a whole host of jaw-dropped nerds across the internet who're totally impressed with this quilt. If I had this thing, I'd be torn as to whether I'd want to hang it on a wall or actually sleep with it!
Mark, that is completely awesome. I think you should open up your home as sort of a kaiju bed & breakfast- sleep with that quilt, wake up and peruse the toy collection....
Looking back on this thread makes me feel like a real heel for not having responded to all the wonderful comments you guys made 5 years ago. Please know that Jacquie and I really appreciated them. To reward your patience, here are some shots of another hanky quilt we made for a very dear friend of ours. Please enjoy them: The idea of opening a bed and breakfast is very intriguing so I think we'll give it a go. To register, please follow these simple steps so I can be sure we only get the right kind of people. First, take a photo of your favorite breakfast. I don't care if it's bowl of cereal or an all-you-can-eat buffet. Then post it to my Instagram account, as soon as I set one up, with the hashtag #hashbrowns. Next, retweet it to 20 different people you have actually never met in real life. Finally, wait patiently for your reservation confirmation to arrive by carrier pigeon.
Incredible work. One of the most inspiring projects I have seen on this site, and that is saying a lot with all the creativity flowing here.
An heirloom treasure to be sure!!! Vintage Kaiju hankies for quilts is seriously creative! Those Tiger 7's are especially wonderific , and look, there's Leafman too! Each hanky is a piece of history, and your wife is super talented! Love the layout, colors, and stitchery. The flying geese pattern , framing each hanky is a classic touch too. So much detail! I could marvel at it for hours and hours, and I the kittees would love to sleep under the cozy quilt too! Definitely something I and the kittees covet *purely for demonstration purposes (not my photo) -- Henry always does this in the middle of the day, sleeping under the quilt! p.s. those DNA helices are PURE genius!
