I, personally, would definitely be skeptical of that Kamerking. I mean, I have no special knowledge beyond what you guys already know, but that's not a *minor* paint variation--it's a whole other paint operation and a new color (the lime green, that is) that's not used elsewhere on the figure.

Plus...I simply prefer the other versions. Just my two cents.

Thanks! Just glad to be able to share my passion for these stupid rubber dinos with other like-minded fools! ;)

^^^ I also think the standard version is nice. And speaking of Kamerkings, this "junker" ended at 46500 , which I wasn't expectiing at all! The toy is gorgeous, but a good portion of the face is broken away! Not sure it was worth paying that sort of money. Apparently, the buyer was remorseful, as 10 days later, the poor guy was resold for 30600

    Well said! ;)

@Mr. Humphreys - Maybe the first buyer didn't notice the face was broken off... :| hope you find your own keeper some day soon!

    Thanks Mark! :D
Too bad about the midnight Kamerking. At least for that auction, the seller did provide very good photos from all angles (they were a bit on the dark side, so I lightened them up a little for better clarity), so it's hard to miss! I suspect there was a bidding war going on, and the winning bidder left holding the bag was left a bit stunned

I don't have any particular expertise on the figure or Bullmark variants, but something about that figure does not look right. Two things in particular strike me as 'wrong'. First, the yellow-green spray on the wing tips is inconsistent with the paint scheme on all of the other examples above. Second, and more problematic, is the fact that the yellow-green spray appears to be sprayed over the other paint colors AND it exhibits very little paint wear, even though I can see paint wear elsewhere on the figure. To me, that suggests it was sprayed over more recently, possibly as a touch-up. Like I said, I don't know much about the specific figure, but those circumstances raise a red flag for me.

On the other hand, I don't think the vinyl toy factories were particularly concerned with consistency at the time, as scobot notes. Even today, as standardized as toy production has become, you still find odd manufacturing variants in mass market toys. So it's not unthinkable that there was an unknown spray variant for Kamereking. Another consideration is that paint colors fade in uneven ways over time. I've noticed that bright reds tend to fade out much more readily than other colors. So it's possible that other Kamerekings had the yellow-green paint from the auction item, and it was just faded out over time by sun exposure, etc.

But overall, something about that figure seems off to me.

Thanks Scott, Sanjeev, and Daniel! Good to know that as a vintage "greenie", I'm not the only one that's apprehensive. And again, the discussion is not focused on shining the red light on a Seller, but to understand these toys and auctions better. Perhaps the Seller is also unaware that there may be issues on the toys they are selling. I think these discussions help us less experienced vintage collectors enormously! Thanks for sharing your insight. And if there are any additional comments, I'd love to hear them! :)

p.s. It's also puzzling that there would be people willing to spend quite a bit of money on a toy, without seeing what the back-side condition looks like

^ Odd to see another of those space monsters pop up so soon after the other one.

I am bending the rules a little here, but this auction has been pretty sad for what it bodes towards my future collecting. I have noticed some M1 stuff getting up there, and trikes especially, but this is just bonkers. I mean, I would completely adore this toy forever, and am not debating it's beauty or 'worth', but shucks, if modern toys are now getting this high, I might as well pack up my tent and go home now. I think this might be a special release version maybe, but still. Odd too how 'beige' his trike looks in the one pic - had me wondering - when it is most clearly yellow in the subsequent shot (which makes more sense).

^^ crazy price, I think it is the normal yellow and just the colours on that first photo. Nothing special though he is the gid version, I have been trying to get the gid matango version lately to complete my set but am shocked how much they are going for nowadays, just a couple of years ago you could grab them for under 10k

Got to share another 'ouch' auction. This one I was really following, and was gonna go in for all the marbles, but had to pull out in the end just for funds. But really, I honestly think this is one helluva good deal to someone who was lucky enough to have the funds on hand. It would easily cost you that and then plenty more besides, to own each one of these separately, and I have been hunting them individually - especially the bootleg Devilman - for several years each. Honestly, this auction was tailor-made for me seemingly; four figures I love and have been chasing so many times, and in decent (satisfactory to me anyways) condition. It's a tough call on a lot of these YJA lots; you can get a hell of a great deal, but you do have to cough up a chunk of change all in one go. Damn you student lifestyle!! You cost me some sweet toys today. Alas, the hunt will just have to continue. A damn good price, much better than I have seen in a while, and in today's vintage market, this is a damn outright steal. Anyway, I'll let the pics tell the rest of the story.

I'd also note that Silver Kamen's boots were actually included (see additional pics below), after the seller pulled them from another job lot he had listed.

I know, I know, play me the world's tiniest violin.... but still :(

Do not worry @ultrakaiju I think it's the story of some of us lately, you see some figure that you've waited for a long time and the auction starts at a low price; and something inside you asks to all the gods of vinyl that no one else is watching the auction so that you can get it at a reasonable price and something happens in the last minute that the price rises to that point where you no longer feel comfortable to pay that amount.:(
But do not lose hope, from time to time life rewards us with a spark of happiness and find what we have longed for so long ...

Thanks for the kind words Roger. Oh I know the discouragement and heartbreak goes hand-in-hand with the joy and excitement of vintage hunting.

@michael Was that the Bullmark Ultraman MAT figure by chance? I thought about making a play for that one as well, but held back in favour of this other auction. Really happy you were able to adopt a great figure that has been on your wants list in any case.

@ultrakaiju My spoils were gekko kamen, tigermask, a maskless bandai barom one, and the grail of a gekko kamen bat villain midsize. Nearly spat out my coffee because I had only known of it to exist, and never actually seen one. I was only familiar with the mini I have, and thenpurple standard size(which I also want)

Nice man! Yeah, that was a sweet lot too. Not sure why it seemingly went unnoticed, I almost jumped in myself earlier on, but as I said, was preoccupied with others. You've got a hell of a lovely lot though, and for a nice price if you ask me. Heck, for any one of those figures, I would say you made out well, but you are right about the wonderful bat villain. Love him loads and am very happy to hear he is going to a great home. Tiger Mask is really nice too, and should clean up nicely I think, his boots just need a good soak (I think he even got a touch-up inbetween time too). I have one of those Gekko Kamens too, and he is really nice. It was funny that Barom-1 had to 'borrow' his boots from the Silver Kamen initially. Sharing some reference pics, if you don't mind:

@michael this was a legit auction win. Really nice lot of toys in good condition and the bat villain is very much a score. Good to see a crazy auction like this; seems the era for finds of this sort ended long ago. Awesome, man.

It is on flesh (Caucasian) vinyl. Some would call it a Hawaii version, yet this one and the one I have both came from Japan. I have talked to a few people about this and the consensus seems to be that there are Hawaii (export) versions of Bullmarks some of which are on flesh vinyl but others with just Hawaii sprays. There are also flesh base vinyls that were released in Japan, possibly when supplies of regular color vinyl ran out or just ones that were intended for export but got sent to stores in Japan when supplies ran low. Anyway, it is a lovely toy especially the way the flesh vinyl shows through the worn areas.

Another one ended at 14500 yen. Broken horn also and some of the flash that fits in to the body was cut off on purpose.

Damn, thanks Anthony (or maybe I should be cursing you for pointing it out! ) I would definitely have dove in at that price, he is a wonderful toy, and I am perfectly fine with that little damage. Someone took him home at a reasonable price I would say.

I thought about throwing in a bid for him also. Then I won a few auctions and spotted a bigger fish in the sea that I want which I know will cost me $$$ if I go for it.

^^^Yep! It was very tempting. I didn't mind the tear in the vinyl, as you can't see it once you pop the heads back on, but the paint is awfully scratched up! I am quite a bit heart-broken over that beautiful blue Zetton :x:x:x:x:x that particular seller does not accept deputy-service bids

    Ooooh, tantalizing! :)
Arg, this is a pain, and something I have also experienced too late in an auction to do anything about it. Worse still though, is I have had my bids retracted for items that I won, and, in a particular case, I wouldn't be surprised if it was because I got a 'deal' and I think they decided the price wasn't what they wanted - and it was for a longtime want/grail of mine. That one still haunts me, and will for years to come I am sure.
