I bought a vintage toy a while ago and have had no luck finding any info on it. Its a big green blow-mold Frog.
He's over 10" high and has large spherical googly-eyes.

Anyway, here is the tag. I cannot figure out what language it is.
Can anyone read this, or know what language it is?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It's Bulgarian... Transcribe it and Google?

Cyrillic Alphabet - Russian / Bulgarian?
Translation is difficult from the online resources I saw; hope it helps some.

    Result. Thanks!
I was guessing Russian too, but Bulgarian sounds correct. I will give it a bash on Google translate.

    Cheers for the help.

I think you guys have already nailed it, but I am just throwing it out there that the Cyrillic alphabet is also used by some other Slavic languages down into the Balkans (Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian) as well as Ukrainian. Moog, did you try the same Adobe tool you used for Japanese? It probably can't handle the circular script, but might be able to recognise some of the linear font on the one (reverse I am guessing) side of the tag.

More importantly, where are the pics of this great toy, and do share the story behind it too, please?

I actually typed in some of the words on the labels and hit a bunch of Bulgarian sites (I think the words I tried meant "childhood" and "toy"). If you can type cyrilic (it's quite easy), you can download the keyboard on your phone/computer and type up the words in Google. If you have Google translate on your phone, you can probably use the camera to get instant translations. Otherwise, it takes more time but you can find a page with the cyrilic alphabet in unicode (wiki's is good) and copy/paste the letters to make up the words on the labels. If you're really desperate I can also ask a Bulgarian friend.

My wife had dinner with her friend yesterday. Here's what she said:

    1. Association 'industry for the person', economic union Mladost Sofia.

    2. Happy Childhood Plant, economic union Mladost, city of Cherven Bryag.

...in other words, not much info. She's pretty sure it's fairly old though!

I don't know, I'd say that is pretty helpful. I can at least offer that I know Mladlost is an area of Sofia, so if nothing else you know where it came from/the company was based. Thanks Oli! The socialist descriptions are pretty great, I have to say.

Thanks for the extra help, i was waiting to get back to work on Monday before trying google translate. I think this one might take a bit of extra work to track down! Its interesting because i used to do graphics work for a translation house ran by a Bulgarian couple, George Mihov and Malvina Kotorova. George was a big, larger than life kind of man, with a great sense of humour. He worked in a kitchen when he first came to the UK and i remember him telling me that the first English he learnt to speak was swear words and various insults, taught to him by the kitchen staff. I learnt that he died recently, which was not a huge shock because he wasn't a well man - insane amounts of smoking and boozing had taken its toll on him.

My camera is knackered but i will take a picture on my shitty phone. I was guessing the toy was pretty old just by the way it looks, so you're wife's friend is correct @petitetoilonrouge. The tag does look old, too. If i had to guess i would say it could maybe be from 1970's.

Like i say, he's a big bright green frog. Made from thick blow mold plastic, wearing white plastic trousers. He has a large protruding mouth that makes him a little top-heavy and large 2" spherical google-eyes on top of his head. Over 10" tall. Quite a heavy, substantial toy.

I've seen a lot of vintage Russian toys made from blow-mold that look similar, but this one seems a bit more elaborate than most, and larger. I cannot find any info on a Bulgarian frog character on TV etc, so maybe he's just an original design by some random toy company . . . .

@ultrakaiju @boon velvet Found these pics on ebay, from a seller in Bulgaria.

They have him listed as Soviet. There is another seller with a version with red trousers.
Neither have any real info, but they are guessing 1970's too . . . .

I found mine in a charity shop and i'm betting you don't find many with the tag still attached.
    He cost me £2

    Lovely toy!

Thanks for sharing the find. It's always neat to see the community finding info on such obscure toys.

Do his eyes roll around? They look like they may. That would be cool.

If you hadn't told me he was so large, I would have thought he was a little fella. But cute design and those have to be the best googly eyes I've ever seen.
