There was a bar in Philly called Sugar Mom's that had some kaiju and jumbos as decoration. I wonder where those went once the bar closed down
^^ i think kung fu necktie in philly has a few things. But i cant remember what. Place is pretty divey though. I know for sure that a roach ran past me on the bar and gave me a thumbs up and winked at me.
Well not Sofubi but interesting and somewhat related: I was just at Barnes and Noble and saw several new items including the Re-action figures, SHFiguarts Mario sets, and of course the infamous Funko Hikari ninja turtles and transformers. And of course lots of Pop and KR related stuff. I was surprised to see them so heavy into the designer toy game - certainly enough to rival small time shops :/ Most of their stuff is still over priced but the Reactions were $10, but selection was limited - they did have the full alien line.
There's a cafe in Sydney called Mattree (Shop 1, 540 Sydney Road, Seaforth, Sydney) with a nice collection of toys on shelves throughout the space.. Not bad!
two spots come to mind. I recently spotted a Rat Fink in the shop window of my barber shop and in New York, on West 23rd, there's a place called Monster Sushi. behind the sushi counter are some toys. don't have my own good pic. but here's one from the web.
I know we had a place on here for commercials, but was there one for movies too? Anyways, flipping through the load of rubbish on the tube last night, I completely randomly stumbled upon this. Never saw the film before, but this (sorry for the shitty screencap) is grabbed from Bicentennial Man (1999). A very odd appearance in the movie, let alone in this girl's room, and particularly "in the future". Full props <teehee> to the person who snuck it on set. Embiggened: That was it, just onscreen for a matter of seconds, but there ya go. I know it gave me a great big smile (and not just because I have and love this fella). Not sure there is any other scenes in her bedroom, I did a quick scan through the vid and didn't notice any, but there could be something else in the background by the lamp, maybe a dino?
A few years ago I was walking along a street in the center of Milan and I noticed this in a furniture design store: This was during 'Il Salone del Mobile', also know as the Design Week. First and last time I've seen some sofubi in Milan (or in Italy or Europe now that I think of it).
My find can fight your find! Two years ago on 19th st. Unmarked storefront. Only this in the window. Never figured it out.
That's definitely a head scratcher. Maybe a child set it up for the fun of it in his family's newly acquired space.
There are weirder places than my television set, but... This here Killer walked his way into the final episode of Maron.
This is one I have been meaning to share for a couple of weeks now, since I spied it upon a recent reviewing of Time Bandits. Unfortunately, I could not find a suitable digital copy online, as all the versions I went through seemed to have cropped it out (so, sadly, you will have to make due with the best-of-the-worst quality photo I could grab off the tube, sorry). From the opening scene in Kevin's bedroom. And, in case you missed it, I direct your attention to the lower left of the screen. An odd - but very pleasing, placement.
Spoiler Since I was asked about the above, it appears to be a vintage Henshin Cyborg King Walder, though, by the relative sizing of the other toys, I would estimate this is actually one of the later scaled-down 8" versions released by Denys Fisher, in which case I suppose we should call him 'Muton.' The head looks like it might be all purple as well (although my initial impression was it was not), which would bear this out*. The Takara figure, for reference and with Denys Fisher versions: * Though I guess some were made as well in the UK with the 'clear' head too, so it could be either.
The Snacky guys are definitely kaiju fans. Did you see the sign? https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=e...ved=0ahUKEwiB-7O__fXNAhVEwj4KHZxsCVIQoioIfzAK
Tattooed Moms has a few (Western) things, but they probably just belonged to the owner and went with them.
Can't find any stills but (surprising to no one) Pee Wee's Playhouse often had Kaiju in the background. I recall seeing several Sofubi and Bandai figures on his rotating Smiley face toy shelf and in other set dressing on the playhouse. If you have the DVDs watch the backgrounds!
Great catch Missy! I think that might actually even by the cyborg version, which is extra special in my books. As silly as it was, that really was a great show, with incredible design and imagination. The troupe of artists and animators that worked on the show is quite an impressive gathering. I highly recommend people check out the documentary, Beauty is Embarrassing about the artist Wayne White. While it is more about him personally, you do get a great insight into the artist(s) as well as behind the scenes production of the show. And hey, his art is pretty wonderful.
Ha, that is amazing missy. Turning a little bit green now seeing that. Must have been a thrill, very happy for you!
