There's probably a LOT more that needs made for every single episode than the average person realizes Spoiler Just in S3E1 alone, and this is off the top of my head because I don't want to watch it again, I made 2 sets of full size breakaway barn doors for the car to drive through, the video camera that gets dropped on the ground, a rubber trombone slide, several sets of rubber drumsticks, many parts of the harp--we actually made 2 full-size harps--it was a group effort. Not to mention I was in charge of stringing and de-stringing the things...that was annoying. The USB sticks that Pablo sells--it's almost a throwaway in that first episode, but might get featured later so I can't specifically say what they are, but I made 15 or so functional USB sticks in an original sculpt just for that gag alone. Also a section of Cougie's back that gets axed. Not to mention the chainsaws, Necronomicons, and Shotguns--there are many of each for different purposes and I can't usually tell which ones I made, as I am a member of a team. I can say that in this season, whenever Ash has the shotgun on his back, I made that one, because it is very specific. And that's just what I did for 1 episode, not to mention the efforts of the other prop makers, the construction crew, scenic crew, makeup and special effects, costumes an costume props!
The dagger is a simple issue of licensing. Some of the stuff is tied up with different entities and studios for some reason--I don't know the details of all that.
I'm really enjoying the third season... I remember there were issues with creative changes during the last part of season two, changing director/producer/whatever. I think it was a good decision judging by the first few episodes from this year..
Yeah, this season is starting out strong, I was a little concerned with the turnover in the creative team, but it's looking good. I think there's an interview the previous showrunner did with The AV Club discussing the different ideas in story structure that lead to the split at the end of season 2. Basically in season 2 he wanted to Spoiler have it turn out that Kelly was Ash's daughter due to some unsavory behavior when they go back to the 80's, but you can see that in season 3 Spoiler they continued with a similar but different turn of events by giving Ash a daughter, which I think so far has created some good dynamics for Ash. It's tricky to make him an asshole, but also give him enough heart and depth that you still care about him. In S3E2 I also made Spoiler the porno magazine puppet! You can believe we had fun goofing around with that in the prop shop!!
Ash vs Evil Dead is officially cancelled. So the episode airing on the 29th will be the last one ever made. If you are reading this and DON'T watch the show it's your fault so go fuck yourself.
It's a damn shame. This season is so wacky and fun and starts to expand the story and characters into new places. Ep 10 shows where it was going next--woulda been so crazy-cool.
I heard it was Parker Posey's fault @Waterbear But seriously - it's pretty shitty that this show has been canned. It's hard to believe that it was (I'm assuming) the lowest rating production Starz has running at the moment. They seem to have other original content that wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as Evil Dead. Ratings may not even be the reason for it being canned (do ratings even exist on cable providers in USA?).. who knows what kind of politics were going on behind the scenes with actors/directors etc.
I haven't been enjoying this season very much. I in no way consider myself a prude or easily offended, but that scene in the sperm clinic actually made me turn it off. Of course I went back and finished the episode, and have continued to watch, but I'm kinda losing my interest. Not happy it's being cancelled, but I guess I'm not all that surprised.
It started the first season with ratings between 400,000 and 500,000 viewers. This last season barely pushes 200,000 viewers. I think the show has actually gotten better but the downfall of so many cable shows these days is actually netflix. When you put full seasons of a show on nettflix soon after the season ends tons of people just wait for that instead of watching it live or with the dvr which hurts ratings. People are just waiting for the next whole season of Ash to pop up on netflix and that leads to a big drop in viewers on tv which led to the end of the show. My only problem with the show was how awful the 30 minute format was. Made it fell rushed like a stupid sitcom instead of actually pulling people into it's world.
Just watched the second to last episode. It's bitter sweet. Took me about 2 weeks to test and make the Spoiler crushable chainsaws. Made 3 of them se we'd have a few shots at it.
Sad news indeed. Even sadder that Bruce Campbell has officialy stated that he is retiring from the role.
Couldn't really get into this season. Season 2 was beautiful, this one just felt like everybody was trying too hard imo. "Do you guys get discounts on knee-pads?" was probably the lamest line of the entire series...
Oh man, really? I thought season 2 was the low point! Season 3 had so much gold in it! Just watched the last episode--very sad, but awesome too. Thankfully, it's acceptable as a conclusion to the saga, but season 4 would have been a whole new world with new and crazier everything, woulda been great to have the chance to go there.
