I didn't make it but a few friends help me grab the stuff I want. I really appreciate some folks here who go out there to pick me up stuff and didn't expect anything in return while some just right out rip me off. Thankyou for all the good people who help me. If I can return the favor at Thailand toy expo next year. Please let me know you know who you are! :) the color on this Goccodo set are awesome. I really wish I could make it there myself to meet some of the people who share these love for toy! IMG_5307.JPG

^ I completely agree with you: I am always touched by "Toy Angels" who help me get toys I dream of adding to my collection... It wouldn't be possible for me to score limited exclusive stuff from Conventions without dear friends from the toy community. Here is my most recent example of a rad haul from Five Points Fest:

Spotted that the first batch of exhibitors is now up on the 5 points site.

Does anyone know anything about the new venue?

I booked up my travel/hotel a few weeks ago but before the new venue was announced so I’ll be staying near where it was last year.

Stoked to be going as not been to NY since 2010 and never been to Brooklyn.

It's at the Brooklyn Expo center. Pretty nice venue. If you feel like walking, it's about an hour+ stroll. Subway is about 50 minutes, no straight shot unfortunately. You'll have to take the F or J to the G. Best bet might a Lyft (or Uber). Either that or find a closer hotel. Willamsburg is pretty close, so plenty to do around the area.

Cheers. Think we will stay in the hotel we have booked as in NY for a few days either side of the con. Taxi/Uber probably the way we will go.

If you see a clueless looking Scotsman wandering about chances are it will be me!

Let's see what comes first... my recovery from depression or 5-points fest. :? Maybe I can actually meet some of you folks for the first time.

Early bird tickets are up as well as VIP tickets to the DTAs.
Unfortunately it looks like their hotel website isn't updated yet for 2018.

Who is probably going, and is it worth going both days?

    I am going this year!

I had some licensing exams last year and I had absolutely no time to go, but this year I'm ready. I bought VIP for my gf and I when the tickets went up . I have heard that VIP is worth it, if for the extra hour alone, but I cannot say if I think both days will be necessary. Guess I'll find out!

They have been updating the exhibitor list recently too. There will be tons of great artists there. I'm a bit sad that a few artists who go to dcon won't be coming at all. I just haven't yet reached the level of crazy where i will fly across country for a toy show. Five points is less than 30m drive from me so I have to go of course!

    I’m going!!

Super psyched as this will be my first toy show. Snagged a VIP ticket as I want to try and get something from Sunguts and I think he was pretty busy last year so want to go see him early.

Be good to meet some of you guys as none of my buddies are into vinyl and it will be nice to talk toys with folk who don’t have a bored look on their face for a change!

I left after an hour or so after I got there. Or that’s what it seemed to be, so quick. I don’t know why cause I’ve been to plenty of cons before and hadn’t had that hard of a time. I guess it was just overloading of stuff I actually like and want to buy and people that make cool stuff and wanting to talk to them about it but not knowing where to start.

I’ll be there, just look for the loud bearded tattooed guy yelling at the army of flippers that hopefully won’t be there this year.

Hopefully the sellers took notice of these fucks and start doing more lotto based sales then first come first serve.

Sorry if this comes off as a stupid question from someone who didn't make it there last year, but how do you notice an "army of flippers?"
I always assumed they just looked like you or me, except that they were purchasing their toys for other purposes...

They’ll be the ones with pictures of stuff from PK and MVH in their hands walking up to booths, waving money and going “me buy, me buy”

That's frustrating for sure-- buying from other collectors even when there's a markup is one thing. But buying from people just trying to make a quick buck on another's work is definitely unappealing. Sadly, not much can be done; as long as people continue to buy their product, they will continue to come.

Woohoo!! I got the all-clear! Going!!!

Fingers crossed Toy Tokyo has more of those micro infection monsters. Those things were like potato chips...can't have just one. I kept buying another every damn time I rolled past the booth.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

I'm hoping that my work sends me this year. Just got back from NYC after a 20 year hiatus, I'd love to go back in the summer!

I was hoping to go this year as I would be in NY during the show, but plans may be changing. Bummed I may miss another chance at Punk Drunkers figures at reasonable prices.

@FLTodd I wouldn't be too bummed. While the prospect of scoring a tough-to-get figure for retail is appealing, the footwork involved would be an ordeal:
Standing in a line stretching half the length of the convention floor (often around a corner) for 1hr+ amongst a slew of people who have zero appreciation for what they've been instructed to purchase, all the while hoping the figure your seeking is still available by the time you finally reach the booth.
I'm not throwing shade at the vendors, as they do their best to keep things fair for all. Nor saying a lotto system would've worked better, as those were a clusterfuck as well. Long story short: the flippers/proxies/friend-helper-outers/whatever they were had the numbers at last 5PF.

Definitely not trying deter anyone from attending (especially if it's your first con), just more of a heads-up as what to potentially be prepared for.
All said, still had a blast last year... the toy scores were a much-appreciated bonus, but the real enjoyment was spending time with fellow lovers of this weird shit we collect.

@smurph Totally agree and understand what you’re saying. PDS is the one brand/maker I’ve been really enjoying lately. My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting their shop in Japan this past November. Would just love to add another piece to the collection or at least say hey.

All this said, it’s just the current state of affairs for the community. “This too shall pass”...hopefully.

Last year taught me one lesson. Get in as early as possible. I missed out on a lot. I'm still shocked sunguts was basically cleaned out in 30 minutes
