The only information I know is that this is the rarest of all standard size Kamen Rider heroes, period. By, like, a whole lot. Look at the image in Yuji's book and you know why it is such a large photo. I've always been "meh" over this character's design, but this is probably the second or third I've seen for sale in 20 years-plus, so the price is not terribly surprising . . .

I was in Tokyo a couple of weeks ago and visited a few vintage toy shops. During one stop, I started up a discussion with a knowledgeable store employee about a standard size Rider Man vinyl that the store had for sale. The employee told me that it was a replica from Hong Kong that was one of several that had recently surfaced in Japan. If, in the future, you see one for sale that looks too perfect to be believed or is being offered at what seems like a great price, there's a good chance it's a fake.

Thank you very much for the information, I saw one in excellent condition in YJP the seller did not put much information but what take my attention was the fact that it looked impeccable and had no marks on the feet, the auction started at 20,000 ¥ but apparently no one bidding on that auction.

There is a nice minty one currently up for bid with an opening bid of 1.29 million yen and a buy-it-now price of 1.35 million yen. Looks suspicious to me...

This is actually really interesting to know. I am generally quite trusting of vintage toys on YJA - typically my biggest concern would be identifying reissues versus original, paint touch ups, or possibly points of repair. But all-out copies is not something I really consider too much (I mean, discounting vintage bootlegs of course). I should say as a disclaimer I am not hunting anything even remotely expensive or high end. In terms of where these fit in, as a fan of bootlegs in general, I would just be concerned that these are clearly noted as "modern era" and "copies" to explicitly make any potential buyers aware that they are not getting original, licensed issue toys. That doesn't seem to be the case then, if I understand correctly, and whether they are intentionally trying to pass these off as such or not, it is that aspect which I find worrying.

As if there wasn't enough attention going to all the modern hyped 'art toys'....... :| Stay away from our vintage!

It's good that you mention that Steve, in the case of the seller of YJP that sold this rare Kamen Rider in excellent condition but without stamps, in his publication he mentions that; He does not know where this figure comes from or what company did it, he does not mention the era in which it was made, but it seems to me that he intentionally put it in the vintage section to create confusion in the possible buyers. The reproductions vs the originals as well as the conditions of the figure is something that also worries me, I have always had good experiences in YJP but recently I had my first bad experience which I would like to share with you so maybe you do not make the same mistakes as me. A month ago I won a YJP figure which did not turn out as I expected, the photos of the seller that were published were dark and mostly only showed an angle of the figure, apparently it was very dirty as if it had that sticky rubber that is added to the vintage figures sometimes, when it arrived I realized that it was not really that dirty, but that the seller had intentionally obscured the photo so that the possible buyer would not notice that the vinyl had a kind of burn on his body, as if the vinyl had been exposed to some source of heat, it was not melted but obscured almost black.
Sorry I do not have photos because the truth It´s that I do not want to know anything more about that figure ...
    My advice would be:
1.- Always be suspicious if the seller puts pictures of a single angle or if the other angle is apparently unfocused.
2 .- If the pictures are more dark than normal, contact the seller to request new photos.
3.- If you suspect that some part of the figure is repaired or broken.
4.- If the seller apparently does not know anything about the piece, he might try to hide something.
5.- Above all, pay attention to your instincts, if you feel that you are paying too much or if there is something that bothers you about the figure it is better to let it go and wait for a better option to arrive.

You have to be careful these days. I have been hearing stories of Jumbo Machinder villain bootlegs that look authentic when listed but are obviously copies when they get to the buyer.

Extraordinary rare! Hawaii Version ☆ Soft Vinyl King Ghidora Bullmark (Godzilla Monster)
I get the impression of what King Ghidorah is not a Hawaiian version, I think it was repainted with silver.

Roger, I believe this is a legitimate KG variant, but is known as "Hawaiian spray with silver eyes" on orange vinyl, rather than the "Hawaiian version" on flesh vinyl. Here is another example:

There is also a very similar version with red eyes instead of silver:

I put up a couple bids on this Ghidorah, but it went higher than I was hoping with all the paint rubs. It looks to be in pretty great shape overall though without any broken horns, etc.

Price not withstanding for the completed auction, I am not convinced that the red cycle is a legit bootleg SideMachine. First off, the box identifies the cycle as a “Deluxe Friction Thunder Machine” and the “rare” vinyl rider figure looks a lot like the rider from Takatoku’s midsize SideMachine with it’s eyes painted yellow (instead of painted black on the licensed version). I realize that “legit bootleg” sounds a bit weird but I wish there were more pics of the box so that I could see if there was any manufacturer’s name and/or logo printed on the outside.

I think most boots don't carry any such markings usually. I don't know much about this toy, but just throwing it out there that perhaps this is one of those cases, like quite a few other toys, where the bootleg is based off the exact same mold as the original, and hence, outside of removing the stamps or characteristic production markings, it could be very similar to the licensed ones you mentioned. Of course it would wonderful to have more info on the toy, as is the case in so many vintage auctions from YJA.

The 3 tag on that header indicates that this may have been attached to a large prize board. You'd buy a sort of lottery ticket at a candy store. The number inside told you the prize you'd get. It may also have been a prize from another Kamen Rider item, such as a trading card series. But typically those would have been card albums.

Lotteries of all sorts have been super popular in Japan going back to the 60s. Besides these store deals, most kids' magazines (the way most manga were published for more than half a century) had "kuji" (lottery) or "speedo kuji" mail-in forms. Splashy ads showed what you could win.

Even in the digital age, mail-in lotteries are still common in Japan. I remember a couple of years ago for one of the new Star Wars movies, you could collect POPs from certain Kirin drinks and mail them in for a chance at a jumbo BB-8. I'm telling you, Japanese lotteries are HARD to win. (I did not.) I've talked to people who have tried so many of these things with with no luck. But it's fun. (And I did actually pull a winning sticker from one of the Star Wars Bikkuriman series. I mailed it in for a cool sticker prize.)

    Wow, that was tangential!
