    DCON?
It’s clearly a cash grab by dcon to get people to spend twice as much on vip. I haven’t gotten a single communication mentioning the idea and didn’t even know it was planned to sell Friday.

Here are my issues with it. I’m coming to California in November I want to at least enjoy doing some non dcon stuff, my wife comes with me, I don’t want to make us sit in a convention hall for 3 days.

It’s annoying when you are trying to set up and you get crowds of people trying to snoop, especially now when they are taking pictures to send to friends/clients whoever the fuck so they can all determine what’s worth buying. Then you have a bunch of people wandering around so you have to pack up again Friday night so nothing is stolen.

90% of sales are Saturday. Look at the legendary Japanese events. All one day. That’s all you need, go crazy one day and then have time to do Disney or go sit on a beach the next.

But I’ll consider what you guys say. Maybe I’ll put something small out Friday. I’ll probably use the same pre email lottery system for the debut of the arch Usir, maybe some painted uncle Steve’s as well.

I thought the ticket price for VIP was very reasonable. $60 for the weekend VIP is really not a lot compared to other conventions I have been to. I also like to do the vast majority of my shopping in a short period of time, and see no problems with this logic. It means the rest of the convention can be lax, spending time meeting with your friends and favorite artists, and just talking with them. Interacting with the others is probably more fun to me that buying toys, since I can do that from home. Clearly based on what you said though, there was a strong disconnect between artist/vendor and event organizer. It seems they were making promises to people without getting artist input; possibly even before the artists knew about the extra time for VIP!

I think in my ideal world, your suggestion regarding limited release is the perfect compromise, for those artists who are willing of course. I think it would be far-fetched to expect the more popular artists to have everything available on Friday night. At the same time, I think having one or two releases available to VIP on the Friday night would definitely be appreciated by many collectors. Just so they feel like there is "something" that makes going out "worth it." It does not require a full booth set-up, but it does require artist commitment for their availability. In the end, this is up to the vendors, and the disconnect between organizers and vendors is shameful on the part of the organizers. They were specifically talking about sofubi in that conversation, although I believe that the conversation started with Instinctoy, who operates on a much larger scale, and won't even be there this year.

We all need to appreciate the people in our life who love us; those who accept what we do and often support it. In my case, I am lucky that my girlfriend does like sofubi, and has even bought her own toys-- but, it's not like she would ever go to DCon without me. And she has never even been to CA. I planned an early flight on Thursday AM so we can have all day Thursday to do touristy stuff. If all sofubi artists agreed to not sell on Friday, then we would have Friday too. But, I think the threat of missing possible sales on Friday night would be enough to scare me into going on Friday night regardless  Similarly, I hope you and your wife can have a nice time outside of the convention halls. Is there anything you are specifically planning on doing, @JoeMan ? I was really dying to go to DisneyLand, but the gf had spinal surgery in July, so I think a day of non-stop walking plus rides which could jerk you around is a good idea before her 6 months healing window is over. I guess it will be DisneyWorld next year instead

Sounds like DCon is rapidly heading towards being the same frenzied, clusterfuck as SDCC!

@JoeMan speaks the truth about Japanese 1-day events! . . . . 3-4 days of trawling around (or having to hang around the booth) at US events for the chance to buy/sell shit sounds soul-destroying compared to Superfestival which is virtually a done deal by lunchtime!

I've always avoided the ComicCons for that reason, so I hope that my first DCon isn't CC-Lite

I'll be selling hot dogs outside if anyone wants to come and say hi. VIP holders get one hour early access, sorry no vendors.

That always kinda makes me laugh when people say things like that at a show. Like the one year Rampage (2015?) said no hovering over the booth (vendors/exhibitors) or else he would not sell.. guess who were the first ones in line that WEREN'T denied?!

I remember that and it pretty much soured me on Rampage toys. From what I remember though, they weren't actually vendors just "famous" collectors.

It was 2015 because that was my first DCON and I remember getting the Rampage newsletter that detailed his "rules". I had no problem with it and when we were at his booth everything ran smoothly until some chump tried to cut in front of my daughter and me. I told him there was a line and he seemed miffed, so I was thankful I had the backing of the guy whose booth it was.

I unknowingly cut the rxh and crew line last year. Bought a cord viper figure, but when I tried to buy a rxh figure mory politely pointed it out to me. Cord viper rules.

Everyone minus whom was first in line followed the rules. Only one person was there 10 minutes before doors opened conversing until doors opened.

Don't know about that, my lady was waiting around for me since I couldn't be there, she saw and heard a few collectors get shooed away while some others immediately showed up and got to buy stuff. I'm not the only one that heard or saw that go down. Unless it was a different dcon.

Gee I wish I could have got one of his big figures. But I'm quite happy with the little RxH stuff I came away with on Sunday. :)

I believe Mike is talking about 2014, Rampage 1st year at dcon with a few different dx for sale. My wife's booth was on the same aisle, 3 booths down. Lulubell and someone else were between us. He said line up at X time which most people did.

Girlfriend is dying to go, she hasn't gone since being a kid... but had spinal surgery over the summer.
We were actually going to go to disneyworld this year but that put a wrench in it. For similar reasons, we didn't want to spend the money on Disneyland.
But, I looked for the heck of it when you mentioned discount tickets, just to see about 1 day. It's only a $7 savings though.

    Derail...

I remember being pretty bummed to fly into dcon internationally, rent a car, get up for day 1 at like 5 am, only to see familiar collector faces already inside the building pre-opening (with vendor badges) beating me to it all. :)..cough David :)

People without personal connections in this game can be hung out to dry a bit in many of the scenarios already described . I can’t hold anything against people using any leverage they have to get what they want. That said, as a collector, the convention thing always seems like more work/frustration than its worth for hunting. So I just go with low expectations and hope for the best. As long as demand outstrips supply there’s always going to be a bit of a mess. The good news is there’s a lot of stuff no one gives a shit about that can be grabbed. I walked away from dcon with some nice wants thanks to collectors offloading old hypes :)
