Looking for some help to ID names of some older sunguts. I believe they are from the mystery island or mysterious island subset of his stuff. I'm looking for more info on any of the dinosaur/reptilian releases. I picked up the red ancient Kaiju arros Godzilla esque release, and would love some company for him. You can see the two I'm most interested in on the bottom shelf here, the red sauropod and the green creature also on 4 legs near him.
I don't know how you find this on his website, but this page has most of the old characters' names: http://www.sunguts.com/sunguts-kaiju-t.html
@RezE11even Encyclopedia of Kaiju from 2009 by Kanou Ishizaka and Brian Flynn (Graphic-sha Publishing) has plenty of early Sunguts featured. The section is missing all the Shigeru Mizuki figures, but if you like his dino type characters it features most of them (along with early stuff you just never see anymore!). Its a nicely put together book about neo-sofubi, well worth tracking down. The RxH section is good too.
Gah, another kraken! I missed out on last year's Five Points version...have to find a way to get my hands on this one!
Great tips on IDing and tracking down old figs, thanks guys. I looked up that book @The Moog and it looks awesome, unfortunately the only one I could find was more expensive than many toys these days, even at reseller prices
@RezE11even Yeah, thinking about it, probably not a big print run. Not been reprinted, either?. There's a few scans of pages online, but not Sunguts as far as I could see. I would scan them and post them, but I don't think I should. I'm in fear of the wrath of Flynn
picked up this amazing little guy. Now I must find my other two subjects to have a little trio of adorable dinosaurs. So impressed with the amount of character in him. And @The Moog any chance of a shot of the couple of pages just for sunguts?
Assume you have seen these pages from Kai Zine in 2007 (scans courtesy of Toybot). This is pretty much everything up to then. Man, I wish I had bought those Godzilla sets when they were selling for dirt cheap! sunguts_1 by toybot studios, on Flickr sunguts_2 by toybot studios, on Flickr
I forgot about those Kai Zine pages, they are really cool. @RezE11even The Sunguts pages in the encyclopedia have all the names (in English and Japanese) and other info about them. I will scan and post the pages when i get a chance, probably next week mate.
@RezE11even and other Sunguts fans, here ya go. Unfortunately the only scanner i've got access to, is A4. Not great but it will have to do, i left the scans fairly large. Enjoy . . .
@The Moog and @akum6n thank you guys so much for the pics! Incredible guides to one of the best in the biz. Now to make a wanted post.
Do you know how many figures were allowed to purchase? I see a few I'd like to pick up but if I'm limited to what i can get I guess I'll have to prioritize my wants.
That should be no problem than cause I only want one of each. That Frill Shark and Kaiju Boy are freaking awsome though!
As always his selection and pricing is amazing! Last time I saw him his Kaiju Boy sold out before I could grab one. This time for sure!
