Tattoo artist Ishi out of, what I believe is Ubiquitous Tattoo, in Nagoya, Japan has released a figure called the Karma Dokuro. I really, really like this toy a lot. I feel like the transition of traditional tattoo artwork to 3D figure is one of the smoothest yet. Great size, and the overall smooth nature of the toy reminds me a lot of Bounty Hunter. I unfortunately missed it at DCon, as he sold out by the time I found out about it. But getting to borrow this one for photos was a lot of fun. He's been commenting that a painted version is on the way soon! Toy lovingly provided by @plastichunter for photos!!! Spoiler
Definitely a fantastic sculpt, I'm bummed to have missed it as well. Hopefully some others come up soon! Definitely a fan, i love the size in hand.
Spotted this fellow over on the waves of the ‘gram and became an instant fan. The flowing fabric texture and the expression on the face just make it a winner in my book.
@MisterYuck The texture of the robe being so distinctive, while not losing any smoothness of the toy’s overall aesthetic, is so impressive to me. It’s just done so well! The face, to me, has both a traditional tattoo reaper look, but also that cheap Halloween mask/docoration feel.
I dig this toy. Would certainly pick one up at retail if the chance arose. I am usually not a huge blank fan, but I think the unpainted gloss black looks better than the painted version I saw on IG. You can obviously tell the maker took a lot of time and effort getting the details and proportions right with this one.
Love this toy. I love the simplicity in the design. I love the look of the face. I love the scythe. Everything works so well!
That’s a great way of putting it, @Kerk1. As I’ve mentioned, it rings of smoothness I find and admire in BxH, but definitely has a newer fee in the design. The painted version; just perfect. I love that he heavily took advantage of the black base vinyl for the cloak, and the silver spray on the bottom edge of the scythe’s blade is awesome.
Got my painted version in today, and I couldn't be happier. Not only is the toy itself fantastic, but his packaging is cool as shit. He used a bunch of crumpled up fliers for the Dokuro as packing material, as well as putting in some flattened ones for collecting, and stickers! Spoiler
Onryo Yellow Version: Spoiler Print included with the Dokuro. Feels and visually reminds me of a wanted poster.
I'm unfortunately all about the overkill, man, so you had to know it was coming! Hopefully I'll be able to come into the GID version released in Japan, and for less than a cold $2k.
it was the first colorway i tried for, no luck but man this thing rips. love the pink and purple. (passed on the black dcon blanks because i thought there would be a TO colorway because im dumb)
Yeah, I swung and missed! Each release is great and stands on its own! The pink vinyl with the purple sprays is such a great combo. The teal innard to the hood is pretty interesting in contrast with the greenish/yellow skull! I’d like to think this is one of those “down the road” comeups, but I know better than that after reading those comments. Don’t get me wrong! I love that I have the first three releases, but this toy is one of those rarities that I feel compelled to be complete on, sans one offs.
