Who remembers the trading card boom of the early 90s? I'm sure quite a few of us got caught up in the whole thing while we were in school - I remember going bonkers over comic related cards, especially the Fleer Ultra X-Men and Spider-Man card series. I don't have many of those cards in the collection these days - but I have been building a healthy collection of GPK and other non-sports related cards over the past few years. Anybody else picking up wax packs from time to time? Would be cool to hear about some more obscure series from over the years - or even some new interesting sets on kickstarter etc. View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
I grab these by the boxes whenever I can I will open a couple packs but usually I buy them to throw in with pin and toy purchases as a nice surprise. I have some that are gross out mail and trolls and dinosaurs I tend to prefer the gross out stuff as it’s more fun to send then Babylon 5 trading cards or some other stuff.
My wife and I came across a box containing my old comic cards when we were cleaning the basement recently. “Are these trash?” “No. I don’t know. I don’t think they are? Maybe? We’re not throwing out that box.”
I found a bunch of random Spiderman cards recently, not my complete sets though. No idea where those went. But I did find my various Marvel hologram cards!! I'M RICH!!
Oh man the Marvel 1993 series cards were the best! those 9up puzzle sets were amazing!!! I loved those!
Although there have been many more misses than hits in recent years, the recent GPK "Oh, the Horror-ible" set is one of my favorites. It pays homage to horror and sci-fi films/TV shows from the 1950s to today:
You're right about that @jetJagger ! One of the artists working on current GPKs is Brent Engstrom - he does a great job keeping the vintage style alive with his hand-painted renditions. His concepts are always really fun! View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
Engstrom was a regular doodler way back when on a friend of mine's oekaki site. He done did go by poopmoustache in those days. Makes me happy that he's getting paid for his talents every time I see his GPK stuff pop up in my feed.
I loved collecting GPC cards and other packs especially with the stale gum. I remember trading and have binder full. I have my Adam Bomb card somewhere.
I grabbed the recent reboot of the series one GPK. It was worth it just for the nostalgia. I too have a complete marvel deck somewhere.
I got some sweet Full House trading cards from here a few years ago when I was still living out that way: https://www.economycandy.com/product-category/novelty-candies-toys/trading-cards/
