Oh, I can't believe that I forgot to mention this: Caught the new Suspiria a week and a day ago! I'm going to keep my lips tight about it, but I will say that it was the movie for me. What I couldn't possibly say is if it's the movie for you. We already know that it most certainly wasn't the movie for Deb, ha!

@toothaction well maybe I'll give Suspiria a second viewing when it' s out on home release and appreciate it more. I wasn't fond of Hereditary until I re-watched it and really dug it the second time around.

Up next in my Plex queue is a bee-themed horror double feature. Shout Factory just put out the Candyman deluxe box, and I'll follow it up with The Swarm...because Michael Caine!

"WDIRT episodes will be quick takes on movies I passed on as a teen, have seen since, and then wondered: WHY DIDN'T I RENT THIS (or "that", depending on what my brain made me say)? Each one will be up for a limited time, probably until the next one gets made, and then thrown together as one long-ass episode after 5 or 6 have been completed. You know, it's for fun."

@Lttr Prssd - Just got to your spoken explanation of that at the exact same time as I got an email notice of you posting the transcript here. Too funny.

PS - Give me a couple of days to rewatch The Beast Within, please! Haven't had a look at that one since I was far to young to be looking at it.

What I'll probably do is make the older ones private instead of completely deleting, so if it disappears before you do a rewatch I can just send you a link,

    Excellent.

Next question: When are we going to schedule and record a series of Skype calls with intent to begin a third supplemental series for your podcast?

Follow up, and this one is of the utmost importance: Can you find me a Screaming Werewolf and a Green Kirk?

If I could time-travel I could get you those two because I encountered them about a month ago. Hit two Targets today, and three others within the last week, and haven't found squat. And I've never seen a Frankie here at all.

I'll message you about the other stuff.

Caught The Witch in the Window last night. I really enjoyed it. It was basically a family oriented horror movie so no gore or even real violence at all but it was so well written and acted. It had a few decent scares but you could easily sit and watch it with the whole family(kids included)and have a nice movie night. It was a little sad but I can't remember the last movie like this I've seen that has real appeal to everyone. Fun stuff.

Tonight will be May The Devil Take You on netflix.

Well, it took me quite literally travelling to another country, but I finally was able to see the latest Suspiria over the weekend. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate that people might have different expectations for this film, but I think that - for what I believe the filmmakers set out to do - it was very well accomplished. To be frank, I was totally shocked when I discovered (as it started) that it was an Amazon co-production. Not that it is so new, but I will forego any discussion of feedback on plot points and keep the review general.

Honestly, I found the film thoroughly enjoyable. The time passed by faster than I expected given its running length, and even on the small-ish screen I saw it on, the experience was worthwhile. All the nods to the original are there [of course] but the best thing I think is that this version does its wholly own thing. It borrows from the original, but owns its own ideas, and presents them very well. Nearly everything is executed very well, even if it feels a little more 'independent' in nature (which, frankly, I think is greatly to its benefit). There are a few niggles I have, and certain things I found extremely irritating if I am honest (e.g. the accents!!! :x, but this is something most average audience members won't notice), but anyway, I don't want to pick it apart or give away anything. Whether you are a fan of the original or not, it's worth a check out. A few of these guys from me ->

Okay, so I admit the cameo caught me off guard. While interesting, I think it would have been better done without. I don't really know what the reason was behind it honestly, I am sure there was something, but it was one of those things that I felt - like the German - continuously was pulling me a bit out of the picture. But still, well done on those folks involved. And no, I did not know at all under after the viewing.

Finally saw Mandy. Glad I waited before rushing out to see it. Also glad a friend "spoiled" it by telling me it was directed by the same guy who did Beyond The Black Rainbow - that really helped temper expectations. As it was, at first I was bored with the early-70s style rambling, go-nowhere storytelling, but from the mid-point to the end I was entertained enough to have a good time with it. But, if it were anyone other than Nic Cage it would have just been a disastrously bad movie, IMO.

I really enjoyed Mandy. I feel like it’s a better take on what house of 1000 corpses tried to accomplish. A slow burn grind house flick that spins off into madness and just typing that out I know Nic Cage was meant for the role.

I loved it. And I'm not a fan of Beyond the Black Rainbow. It's mostly style over substance, but sometimes that's fine with me. Whoever did the animation needs to make a full-length feature!

Came here just to say that Bird Box is just..... errgh. Take everything that you didn't like about this year's A Quiet Place and dial it up to eleven. Never mind the terrible premise, shoddy plot devices, and atrocious acting (topped off with some near-uncanny valley plastic surgery); it just amounts to nothing. I dunno about the general consensus, but for me, Netflix 'original' fares lately are becoming so much of the direct-to-video and tv movie variety, that I feel, while cost effective I am sure, it is ultimately hurting the brand (which genuinely does have some interesting things out there).

Bird Botox Box was pure shit. It takes work to turn good actors into lifeless cardboard cutouts. And what the hell did Bullock do to her face? It doesn't even move in the entire film. She looks like the bad guy from the House of Wax remake. When the entire premise of a movie is built up to make you want to understand the mystery behind what's happening and they never actually explain it no one ends up happy. You are dead right about netflix films though. A lot of it is just the fact they are buying completed movies that didn't make it to the big screen. Most of them got stuck in limbo for a reason.

Hellfest was a blast! I went in expecting nothing at all. Or I guess expecting to give up halfway through. Holy shit was I wrong. It's kind of a modern throwback to Scream type movies but with none of the silliness or convoluted backstory stuff. A handful of friends go to a horror theme park and end up stalked by a killer. The acting is good. The dialog is fun. The gore effects are wonderful but it's not a gorefest at all. It takes itself seriously but in a good way. I loved it.
