Spectacular news, Daniel. Thank you for the update.

Now... what are the rest of us going to do?

You all are the best! I was very bummed when I saw the news about the photo limit. Thank you so much for helping to preserve Lixx's photos, as well as many more.

Anyone know if there's a way to trace where your photos are being linked to? The vast majority of my SB posts from the first few years are going to go dark come February, and I'm a lot more likely to go back and repair them preemptively if I don't have to click on thousands of thread entries to find them.

Not sure if that is possible. On the Flickr stats (if you have pro) you can often see where other people are sharing/linking your photos, but I've never heard of automatically finding the locations of your linked images on SB.

By the way, back when I had to delete all my advert finds from Flickr, it only affected a small percentage of them on the SB thread. Plenty I had deleted still seemed to be working on SB afterwards. Why, I don't know.

Your PC's personal cache, probably. :(

Hmmm... i wouldn't think it's the cache. Sounds a little worrying. I interpret that as, even if you delete your photos and/or account, the files must still exist on their servers some how, but perhaps that's not a correct guess either?

Well, in my experience, if you hitlink something here from a site that doesn't like you to do that, you will still be able to see the image that you posted but everybody else will see a dead link; hence my cache theory.

Pulled it out of my butt, so faith may vary.

I'm wondering, if you're trying to start an archive of photos, why use a social media platform? Using one means ultimately you're at the whim of some company if they decide to change things, as happened with Flickr. Why not just use something like Dropbox and/or a wiki?

So any recommendations for image hosting sites instead of flickr now? Im not a big a photo taker, only use flickr
to post on here. I wouldn't mind paying but 50 bucks is way too much for uploading less than 100 pics a year from
    my end.

For the past few days I've been getting this when doing searches:

    "
    Bad, bad panda!
    Come on. We want photos.

We’re aware of the problem and are fixing it. Thanks for your patience."

    never had it happen before.

A suggestion for an amendment to the error page. You're welcome Flickr, don't mention it.

    Ha, welcome to the group.

Flickr has become such a disappointment from something that held so much promise. Why no one has yet stepped in to fix it or fill its shoes with an actually functional replacement, I cannot fathom.

    The end is nigh...

Anyone have any great suggestions for easily rehoasting our personal archives? How about for archiving our site from the huge hit it's about to take?

Blerg. I was disappointed to note that several searches related to flickr hosted images turned up bupkis today. I know I am sure going to miss perusing the likes of flickr archives from Scott, Joe, Chris, Jordan, and so many others. :(

Finally got around to at least backing up my Flickr uploads. In case you haven't yet, and in case you don't know...

Goddamnit, I didn't know you could download everything at once. I was downloading my pics album by album. I had 65 albums!

I was eagerly waiting for my over 6000 pics to go down the drain but someone from Wikimedia Italia (?!)
suggested the I switch my pics to Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike.
"We don't know exactly which and how many photos Flickr will delete, but switching to a free license will allow users to easily migrate any amount of relevant photos to Wikimedia Commons, where they can be preserved, curated and used on Wikipedia articles" he said.
    So that's that. We'll see.

It has been admittedly a long time since I 'officially' logged in to Flickr, but did so randomly the other day and noticed that, as a result of the changeover, there was several new disclaimers to approve, and a shift from the previously forced Yahoo email login back to an alternative, e.g. Gmail once more. I haven't really noted any changes as such to the front end, but I also have not reached my maximum allowance or set up Pro, etc. I guess as long as it keeps kicking around in some form or another, so the image links here are not lost, I accept it. Would be great if they actually made an effort to improve it though, and try to bring it up to the level of the 'modern' standards.

Anyone find any alternative to Flickr? I personally only made an account when I joined SB since I had never been on a proper forum and never needed to host images. I don’t feel the need to pay for hosting since I only use it on here.

Too invested in it. Believe me I tried to look elsewhere but nothing comes close to FLICKR. The site is all working for me now except Collections. It's not showing all the pics and Camera Roll recently came back so hoping Collections will be fixed next.

So, I have noticed a couple of my imgur photos from ~2017 have been removed. It seems random though, as I still have some up from 2016, but I have noticed two different ones missing this week. Anybody else seeing this? Let me know if it's time to sounds the alarm on imgur longevity for archiving. I tried to use Google photos for hosting, but I could not figure out how to embed them.
