2016 we saw the ultimate rise in Shirahama interest witch was and is still much deserved. Mainly due to the Neko luckybags, So many variants were incorporated but none took top spot for me than this guy and I was hunting him from the day I got the bags. I’m happy to say finally he is home with his brothers in my web. Clear double pour with clear floating layer of Pink/red/yellow GID drip. I love the way the pour gives the skull a Neanderthal / gorilla look.
@xSuicide Squadx Robert I would like to have your skills to take photos, they are just awesome. Additionally I would like you to tell me more about that green beauty, I had not seen it before is it a one-off or a version made for some of the events in Asia? Always when @Shirahama made some new spider version I think it's the best Kumon that I've seen, but he has the ability to improve himself with each later version of Kumon.
Agreed completely. Kumon is one toy where I don't focus on releases I've missed at all even though I love the sculpt. Each one is uniquely exciting and refined.
@Alebrije Thank you, Roger. Seems silly to be so passionate about toy photos, but I can’t help what the heart wants. This most certainly is a one off. It was Shirahama’s offering for the suicide prevention raffle, for which I had been drawn forst(very luckily). So this was a no brainer choice for me.
Holy shit! What's the story with the pour and paint (if any) on that one? So much going on I don't know what's what, but it all works beautifully
Thank you! The one in the back it's one of the last Halloween versions (black and orange marbled solid with glitter) and the minis are blanck vinyl. I hope I could help you with your doubt.
Brilliant, thanks! I've felt the Kumon love very hard over the last couple of weeks and wanted to share now that I have some photo time. All my shelf lights aren't set up yet, so my Kumon collection sits in a shadow that covers up just how much these guys pop. But every time I get a new one it's an occasion to take all the gang out into the light and appreciate the care that goes into each design. I can't think of another toy for which, regardless of the release, I'll be absolutely sure I'll love it. Lately I've had a couple such occasions. First of all I want to thank the collector who gave me a crack at this Lucky Bag paint. It has perhaps the weirdest combination of paints out of all the toys I own, but arranged this way they all shine. Pistachio-green vinyl with cherry-red, black, purple and gold sprays, and it doesn't show in the photos but there are beautiful flakes of glitter floating around in that red skull as well. And this weekend I got lucky enough at My Plastic Heart's Monstrosities show to score the piece that grabbed my attention the moment I came in. Clear vinyl with purple and gold flake, and surprisingly sparse purple and gold sprays. Like every other Kumon this was striking in its own way, but as I looked it over I realised that a good portion of the vinyl is actually bare, with the dense flake and surrounding paint giving the illusion of fuller purple sprays. The result is that, in a normal setting, it looks like a pretty solid purple paint: And then, with a bright light behind it, it jumps to stealth mode! The optical effect blew me away as I played around with it, and I can't wait to experiment with different lighting when I have more time. I haven't seen even half the Kumon out there, so perhaps there are others with this 'illusion' going on as well Spoiler: More photos
I know it's not the most exotic Kumon but I like it a lot, you could think it's the one of simplest marbled Kumon, but I have my story with this particular version for some reason I let it go when it came out and then I had another chance to catch it and let it go again, it was something that always tormented me, that's why I could not let it go for a third time. Another thing that caught my attention about this particular piece is the headercard it looks like bootleg is not made by offset printing on a cardboard like Shirahama does, but this headercard seems to have been printed on a printer at home and on a paper more thick, my question is whether the original owner made the headercard to give more value to the figure or was something that @Shirahama did in some event and that for some reason has run out of the original headercard.
Great score, Roger. Very wonderful, yet simple Kumon. I gifted this one to a buddy for his birthday a couple years ago.
Thank you very much Robert, I know that you are a great fan and collector of these spiders that's why I appreciated your comments. Besides everything, you are an excellent friend for giving that amazing gift to your buddy.
This is not a joke. In fact this is a treasure. After years on the want list. I was able to apprehend this elusive specimen And whilst packing I stumbled upon the realest rabbit hole of them all Spoiler: Rabbit Hole
There don't seem to be many people pulling apart their glitter purple Kumon, so I figured you all might enjoy a look inside the head and body
