personally not too big of a fan of the lets post "This toy maker" because a "This Toy Maker" lotto is going on. Although the reposts with words added like WANTED, Prayer hands, 3d renditions etc I think are far more annoying. i've did reposts of toy pics... usually its because its a contest where this is asked as part of the entry. I love the new rendition of the Finkshit. The size is very appealing, and the price isn't too bad all things considered. I absolutely love the poster. I found it funny a few mentioned the car after I did, but only said GTR because its literally there on the image lol. I truly love Izu's choice for this imagery. big daddy roth meets classic japanese cars. it hit me on a personal level as i've grown up around the car scene, and been heavily a part of it since I was becoming of age to drive. The Hakosuka is not even the true original Skyline. but it is the first one that has made a lasting impression on import car culture. I did wish everyone best of luck at this lotto. I truly hope at least one of my buddies scores, so I have a chance at seeing one in person at some point. For those faking the funk, or didn't even know... This is the vehicle Izu chose to use for the imagery. [IMG]

The Hakosuka Skyline is so overplayed these days. It's like the AE86 Trueno of this decade.

Which its older. Personally I love the Hakosuka, and it will hold a special place but a 510 would be more accessible stateside.

I am going to have to agree with Andy here. I can't see how it is possible to judge someone's 'calibre' or of being a 'real collector' from some photos posted on social media. I don't think I have even any toys posted on Instagram, so that means I don't really feel any passion for them? [My ongoing space issues and wallet would disagree.] I mean, hey, it's fine for people to judge others however they want to on a personal level - provided that is limited to their own opinion and stays there - but this is even more superficial to me then making social judgements against a person based on the clothes they wear or their address. Pretending that has any basis in fact is going to be a stretch for anyone to justify. Instagram and social media are a new phenomenon, even relatively. Soft vinyl toy collecting has been around since these toys came out, verging on 60 years ago. As Andy pointed out, many people (myself included) just don't use social media; I prefer in person interactions and just enjoying things with good folks who I can relate to. Maybe that makes me less of a 'modern' collector, but not less of a toy fan. That is probably lame and uncool, but that's totally fine; judgements don't really affect me either way, and I don't buy toys for other people's views (or approvals) on them. I am only throwing this counterargument out there to point out in fact there is [at least] a flaw in this line of thinking.

@toothaction @Anti Social Andy to be fair have either of you done the actual work of going through thousands of lottery entries , over doznens of differnt lotteries ?

If no, then you both have no clue what your talking about and just giving your opinion. When I’m speaking from experience.

It’s pretty obvious nothing is foolproof, no shit, but over time yes you can get a feel for who is who. People just don’t post fake photo collections , and when they do it’s gets called out by others. So I’d say you’d get a good 85% feel. Considering by the amount of toys I put out vs how much ends up on the secondary market I’d say I’m more right than wrong.

Also, it’s a crazy notion, but hear me out, the platform is explicitly for posting ... photos.. so maybe , just maybe, people will post photos of what they are into on it. Otherwise what’s the point in complaining about people posting photos on a photo sharing app. The vast majority is into photo sharing.

Now I wait for the inevitable replies of how wrong I am, how lame I am, I suck, my toys suck. Your all right in advance and I agree.

To be clear, I don't think that you need to use Instagram to be a genuine collector. HOWEVER, in the current world of popular sofubi, Instagram seems to be where the majority of the social activity is regarding the hobby. Using HxS as an example, I would bet money that most current collectors of his works are using IG. Sure, it's not 100%, but I bet Rich's 85% percentage is very reasonable.

Instagram is also where many popular artists announce their sales (opposed to the blogs of old.) It is the natural progression that even collectors who might not have used IG in the past have started to use it (I fall into this very bucket myself, inspired by other's becautiful photographs). I am grateful for the friends I have met in collecting since I have started using Instagram as a platform. Toys are a visual art, so it's only natural that a dedicated photo sharing platform has become the place where toy collectors have flocked.

    @Anti Social Andy
I sincerely don't want to get into a back and forth over this, but I truly believe you were just disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. I have found joy in taking photographs and sharing them with others. And I hope some people have enjoyed my photography. You said that it wasn't for the sake of argument, but it definitely came off that way. Do you have to take others down a peg to feel better about yourself? I collect toys because I love to collect and I love toys, what other intention do I need?

Hi Rich, I would very much like to experience it. If you would like to out source me picking out your lottery entries, I would be very happy to accept. Just do not be surprise if I win 100% of the lotteries. :D

I know a lot of people who just put everything on one account, but the wife and I have three Instagram accounts(Her art, her cat pics etc. and my toys and sketches). I like how my account is really focused on one of my interests.

To your point, it's all about the cost-benefit ratio. You develop a system on trial and error on what works for you. Nothing you do is going to please everyone (i.e. people who complain about cart jacking will just complain about cart hoarding when you implement your reserve system), but it's about what is reasonable for you to manage.

One thing I thought would be a really cool idea would be an annual MVH fan club where people buy points they spend on toys throughout the year as effectively pre-orders. I buy 100 points for X dollars and I can spend 3 points on a blank Bernie, 20 points on a micro-run Leviathan, whatever. If I choose to spend all of my points on every single release as they come out, that just means I run out of points early and possibly miss some cool shit that comes out later. This forces people to make wiser decisions with what they want vs. GIMME EVERYTHING, it allows you to better prepare (maybe the run size on something is equal to how many people order it within 24 hours with points), members can have exclusives or even just a pre-allocated part of the run (50% points 50% lotto to newbies), etc. You manage who can get in so it's effectively flipper-proof too, something a shop drop or even a lotto can never really be. And for those who think it's unfair, well, save some cash and just become a member next year!

I fully admit that would probably be a giant pain in the ass to track from your perspective, but honestly it is something you can manage in an Excel file without any backend coding and from the perspective of a collector of yours, it would alleviate a TON of stress since I don't have to cancel a date night with the girlfriend on Friday because I'm a psycho slapping the refresh button every 2 milliseconds (but hey, I did well on the last shop drop that way so I made it up to her with a trip to a Korean spa)

The coin list is hard enough to keep track of when some have been assholes and trying to double coin and such.
Can we keep this HxS and talk MVH in MVH thread?
Perhaps i should of posted my Cocobat, Takeshit, HxS, lol. Saw some one confirm they won and now just awaiting shipment.
The whole IG lottos are a tough cookie to figure out. I’m bummed I didn’t win sure, I hope Carl did. Some may hate this incoming statement, but some sense of elitism/favoritism entitlement is warranted at times.
I know personally that i have a few close friends that don’t IG it up with everything they own. Sometimes less is more, but when it comes to Instagram lottos this could hurt the chances, and that sucks because there is some big collectors out there that simply don’t show it. Some don’t have the time. Others have the time to take their passion for collecting, plus their passion for photography together to make some great posts.
Believe it or not, some of the more in depth, focused, wild collections, you might of been lucky to see a glimpse of, but you haven’t even touched the surface of what lies beneath. Those few i know that i know describing this, it kinda sucks that they might not get a fair shake at the lottos now... yet we’re entering when we had $200 gorillas, while this new influx of overseas buyers, were on some other fad/hobby at the time, clueless of what some of us have been doing as a part of passion/lifestyle for well over a decade(s).

Ignoring fans who have been buying for 10 years so you can cash in on a new market that is quite literally collecting based exclusively in hype just seems like an awful long-term strategy. I know a few Hirota super fans that were pretty grossed out by the $800 price tag and pretty much tapped out of collecting his stuff anymore. I think it's especially bad when a toy maker jumps his price up suddenly and dramatically in 1 release (there was another maker who jacked up his price almost 2x for a current lotto that I wanted when he previewed but didn't announce price).
