It just occurred to me. This time we are living through in 'soft vinyl' toys is really just the '90s comics trend, interpreted via a different medium.

If there is one positive to hand on to there, it's that [some] people generally recognise its folly in hindsight.

Good point, but was there ever a point where people thought Rob Liefeld was worth ten times the asking price?

But... but.... but..... this toy comes with exclusive* collector's card omake!

    * Exclusivity here being defined as the amount multiple factories of printing presses can handle in a a year's worth of production. Maybe longer.

And yes, I suppose if we were to gauge it by cover price - where most/nearly all of these were available (maybe with some patience and hunting) from a LCBS) then, yes, the 'speculative' market easily exceeded 100s to 1000s of times of reasonable pricing. And how many of those X-Men #1s (or Return of Superman) stories are now languishing in long boxes in attics... still awaiting that faithful day.

I said it years ago, but PlanetXAsia are the "Image Comics" of this current boom/bubble... they even defended themselves after I posted it on Skullbrain with a instagram picture of Youngblood I believe! Lol

    That's... I...

I need to go stare at some Tohl Narita designs for 30 min or so to aesthetically/monsterifically reset, after seeing this.

I'm seeing a lot of Mirock influence out there, but even with some of his more complicated designs he always shows some restraint. Some of these newer toy makers just don't know when to stop. I can say the same for a lot of toy painters, too!

Definitely not familiar with minimalism or the 'less is more' philosophy!

Gotta love it when someone goes to twice as much effort as is needed and ends up with something that looks like shit regardless!

I'm not sure which eye to look at on this thing... eyes in the face, eye in the hand or the dick eye where the beans are on top of the frank

Pretty much any toy from Izumonster
This sculpt seems to include everything we’ve complained about throughout this thread. Even the mandatory penis has been replaced with a tongue...so edgy

The original nags were terrible; the shitty copies of a shitty toy are laughable.

I do like the heads of this sculpt, but the rest of the entire body is pretty bad. This is an older sculpt, and TAG, for whatever reason, was slow to get it out. I only mention that because Izumo's capability wasn't as refined then as it is now, obviously. I don't think his artwork was as smoothly translated here as the rest of his toys. Even the Toxi and Flesh Eaters feel more intentional than this.

i definitely feel like if this savage king was earlier in izumo’s portfolio it wouldn’t seem as bad as it does now. the artwork he was making at the time was very loose blackwork and this toy is a great reflection of that period but all his current works are so heavily zollmen inspired that its hard to look at this thing and be like “yep same dude, same time period”

I like it more than his new stuff. Admittedly I have a soft nostalgic spot for late 80s and early 90s anime and manga that was heavy with devils with mouths and faces in the bellies. I know putting mouths and extra faces on other parts of the figure is a popular motif these days, but in fairness to Izu many of the guys doing it see probably biting his style anyway.
