Daaaaaaaamnnn. What a gorgeous treasure to find! Congratulations, good sir, you came across something pretty wonderful there. Such a lovely poster as is, and to come across such a one at a flea market is incredible. Very happy for you (and a bit jealous too), Excellent, and all framed up to boot.

Thanks @ultrakaiju the rush was incredible when I saw it perched up high on a shelf. The excitement hasn't worn off but has been multiplied after receiving this amazing gift from Kiku at invisible NYC

Damn, those are lovely man. Very nice work, it is great to see them rendered in this type of 'traditional' style. I think I might just accept onsen admittance refusal for some art like that. A very sweet gift, congratulations!

Another one of those I think I could spend a few hours staring at and appreciating. This is the kind of stuff they need to fill up waiting rooms with, to properly keep people happy, instead of whatever bland shit they choose. Made for the Sci Scapes show at the Hero Complex Gallery in LA, this is meant to celebrate the work of artists like Moebius, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Geof Darrow, and you can definitely see the infuence in it (as well as some outright particular character homages included :)). So many wonderful sci-fi references contained therein, but I will leave the IDing fun up to everyone else.

(should be able to click through for a full-size version)

So once again, one of the [sadly] non-toy highlights of this year's SDCC was the poster offerings put out by Mondo. I am not into the whole posted collectible scene, but I wouldn't doubt if these weren't all sold out at the con, if not directly as hard to come by as some of the hypebeast stuff from the vinyl world, but anyways, they are nice to look at and probably have some themes that others here can appreciate, so might as well share a few. Highlights for me:

    Samurai Jack by Tom Whalen

    Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai

    2001 by Kevin Tong

    Frankenstein by Franceso Francavilla

Attack on Titan by Matt Taylor

    Labryinth by Richey Beckett

    Jaws by Phantom City Creative

And a few more you can check out at this link if you wish.

Maybe it's the influence of shawk week, but I especially enjoy that JAWS poster. Such a smart design. Thanks for sharing @ultrakaiju. My other favorites of the lot are the Attack on Titan and the Labyrinth posters. The Labyrinth art strongly reminds me of Mouse Guard.

Found this behind a bunch of other posters in a frame. Forgot I had it. Hokuto no Ken aka Fist of the Northstar 1986 movie poster. I loved watching this when I was a kid.

That's lovely, Anthony. The classic artwork from the manga is so punchy (no pun intended) and immediately great; really stands the test of time. Never mind that this was the post-apocalyptic epic that so much of 'modern' works [sigh] wish that they could be.

Thanks Steve. Classic films like these in the 80's got me more in to anime during the 90's.

Had the honor of working with James Groman on Cherry Glazerr's Live at Lagunitas show poster and pretty stoked to share…
(And by "worked" I only mean "hired" and provided a rough concept, for which he applied his insane magic & talents to)

@ultrakaiju Mondo lines at SDCC are always bonkers.

I did manage to get a good look at the AoT poster upclose. Very very nice one. Would have loved to see the Samurai Jack one.

Just an FYI in case anyone is interested - Arik Roper is selling his 2001: A Space Odyssey screen prints right now. Hit him up on IG if you're interested.

Amazing grab, my friend. As much as it might not have been the 'first' I think this US release of the animation of Otomo's incredible masterpiece is still such a critical milestone for bringing [let's say the other side of] anime to the wider consciousness. The film remains absolutely phenomenal in its own right, and for the role this more generally accessible version played, this poster marks quite a landmark in that sense. Akira will always be up there at the top of any list I would put together, and hopefully no amount of messing with it will diminish that.

Well, that, and it is one heck of a lovely poster to look at.

Thanks Steve. You already know the back story of my love for this US released poster. Granted I also have an original 1988 Japanese B2 size poster, Akira and a few other anime that came out during that time and after pushed me more to appreciate the beauty of Japanese anime.

I scored this Dinosaur Jr gig poster at their 2012 show here in Denver. I’ve seen them about a dozen times since the late 80’s but this particular show was the best one I’ve ever been to. I actually cried tears of joy several times throughout the night because they were so amazing. I just got it framed and it’s going up in our son’s room to match his all blue motif.
