So the micro-runs coming out now are more expensive? Is there a special reason for that (besides, you know, bills to pay)?

Well, I think the normal production releases from 2007-2009 were around 7,000 - 10,000 yen retail.

I assume the boost is due to the more complex paint work on the micro runs and the addition of the box. I don't think it's unfair. Just stings a bit to have to pay nearly $200 to get a single figure these days.

The new glow Khappa was $139 shipped but the box was sturdy and plain (no japanese characters or anything). In the end it's just a box so I don't really care lol. I'd sooner have it bagged oldschool.

Yeah, boxes are really more of an inconvenience to me. I feel the sting of paying more very hard, but hey, I have to get a painted Raizo by hook or by crook

To be fair, the Raizo is a new sculpt, and it’s huge. So I think the price point on that one lines up. Micro runs tend to cost a little more, in my opinion, because of the smaller run numbers, much like one offs are of the highest price point. And like Daniel said, Miyazawa - San’s paints have been gettin’ pretty wild, so I’d say his time and craft is being well compensated for. Also, with a lot of these new artists putting out [subjectively] inferior toys and designs, and charging a huge premium, I think Siccaluna, as an artist, has more than paid his dues to match these tags, or higher.

I'd been eyeing this Raizo double-pour ever since it showed up on eBay weeks ago, but last week's coupon pushed me over the edge. Definitely a weirder piece among my toys, but I love all the character it packs. My first photo with it had to feature Nekomata as well! Since both are sculpted by Shikaruna, I think they're distant cousins really. I have no idea how a double-pour actually works, let alone a clear pour over a marbled base, so if anyone wants to explain the process further I'd be super grateful. It's super heavy in-hand for a sofubi toy, which I assume is because it just packs in more vinyl between the two pours. More photos under the cut.

The newer sculpts have really caught my eye again, particularly Radick and the new Orochi. They have that massive, fantasy-creature feeling that made me a fan of their older sculpts.

Same here. I like the new stuff coming. Just not the prices.. I was able to get the debut release of Orochi from Super Fest. Here is a marble mix for the upcoming Mandarake festival.

More 2 head Groot for Mandarake, lol.

I’ve been using this new store for the past couple releases, and have been pretty pumped about it. However, this past release, I bought a bunch of small figures and didn’t realize until after checkout I selected the wrong figure on the drop down menu. Not a big deal I figured, just placed a separate order for just the one figure and emailed him/them and asked if they could just combine my orders. I got a response back saying they could combine my orders but couldn’t refund one of the shipping charges. So I just paid 70 fucking dollars to ship my order. Not necessarily trying to throw shade, just trying to give you dorks a heads up in case you place multiple orders!

I totally agree. I am in love with Radick and Orochi. They are some badass sculpts. Still haven't won the lottery to buy either of those two, but I'll get em one day.

That colorway is insane. I wish more artists did interesting paint on clear vinyl.

Some of it is the paint, but I also think that is a double pour, with a green and maybe blue metallic?

Time for some Sofvi Mythbusters. I was recently able to put to rest one of the longer-running mysteries of Siccaluna's figures. Garumega debuted at Summer Wonderfestival in 2007, with one (blue) version reported for sale, by the sources of the time.

However, when the show photos emerged, Kaiju-Taro's set contained the photo below, seemingly revealing an alternate reddish paint scheme:

There was debate on whether this red version was actually different from the normal one, or just a product of inconsistent lighting. Eventually, as S-K's company direction morphed to focus on one-offs and licensed properties, the interest in their early releases and this question fell to the wayside.

But one of the mysterious red Garumegas recently emerged from the depths of someone's collection:

    [IMG] [IMG]

While I haven't discounted the possibility that S-K may have simply produced a later one-off that looks similar to the red WF version, I don't think this is the case. The base vinyl on this red version is black, matching the 1st release. Additionally, the painting style is a fairly simple, vintage-style arrangement, comparable to other early releases. In contrast, the later one-offs (and even normal releases) became increasingly garish and elaborate. Finally, based on a visual comparison to the K-T photo, the color arrangement seems to match for the most part. It looks like there are some minor differences from the one in the photo, which probably means that more than one was sold. (Unfortunately, there was no packaging included with this figure, which would have been helpful.) But all in all, based on the photo comparison, base vinyl color and paint style, I think I can finally say that the red version is real and distinct release.

The latest drop on their site are some of the prettiest paint apps I've sen in a while. I wanted to buy a lot more than I can afford.

Heh, remember this maker? My first SK I've owned. He's obviously a mini "Space Kaiju Bagun 1-Go [宇宙怪獣バグン / Uchuu Kaiju Bagun]"

Was anyone around when he was released and be able to give me any other details? It looks like 2 like him sold on Mandarake years ago. That's about all I could find. He's pretty sharp looking. His right arm joint is a bit fucked so that's disappointing but he'll display just fine so overall a fun "cheap" little exploration into a new maker.

Also wouldn't mind a "Space Kaiju Bagun 2-Go [宇宙怪獣バグン / Uchuu Kaiju Bagun]" in my collection if anyone is sick of theirs.

I would have to check, but I think it was from a lucky bag around 2010 or so. The S-K minis are really nicely done, and, unfortunately, suffered from the hype train / infinite variations problem when they were originally released. I think that turned off a lot of people at the time. But they can be found for very reasonable prices these days when they show up.

The minis in this series are so nicely constructed, the Kaiju Mighty has 10 parts in a 3 inch toy. They are all from a book series by Toshiya Nakaoka so it is worth searching his name for listings.

Thanks for the info! Yeah great sculpting detail and paints on this little guy, very impressive. I didn't like every paint app SK came up with at their pinnacle but when they are good they're great.

Very nicely constructed indeed! Faithful to the source material too. This one is especially close to the original illustrations. Thanks for the tip on searching his name. I'll keep that in mind.
