A glossy b/w Kun?! What’s the story behind this one?

@SstatusSkuo Bounty Hunter just released it! An official release of the sofubi version Skull Kun in the classic black and white! They promoted it on their Instagram a couple weeks ago. :D

@Bill They seem to keep ‘em rather spread out when it comes to toy releases. Constantly releasing seasonal clothing, and every few months a new version of a toy. Fingers crossed for the next!

Does anyone know what the blue Skull Kuns generally go for? I see one on Mandarake for ~$40 and one on Heritage Auctions starting at $200 so I'm not really sure. Is the one on HA just egregiously overpriced?

@Bill The $40 to $80 range is typically what I see, depending on the condition of the Skull Kun, with the sealed ones obviously going for the most. The problem with a lot of these auctions sites is perceived value, versus actual market value. And while Mandarake can be a bit egregious from time to time themselves, they do also have pretty solid deals like a $40 blue Skull Kun. Hell, a buddy of mine just got BOTH giant Meka Kun, still sealed, for $120 on the pair.

Thanks for the insight! I figured that was the case, but it's always good to get some confirmation.

    Don't forget - those Heritage Auctions also have a buyer's fee of 25%! So that's already $250 before shipping/taxes!

Great comeuppance, Bill! The blue vinyl base is still so vibrant, even after how long it’s been released! Finally got my hands on this silver version after watching and waiting for a good while. Damn thing is in almost pristine condition for the price tag!

Thanks! I was surprised with how well maintained it looks, I didn't find any discoloration or sun damage.
That silver is beautiful, love how it almost looks like chrome. Did you buy it unopened? I'd be surprised if you bought it open given how fantastic it looks.

I most certainly did buy it open. It’s why I’m so damn shocked at its condition! Whoever owned this before I did definitely loved it being a part of their collection and took care of it! A buddy of mine has the silver, and his has a weird, light blue tint throughout on the white. You don’t notice it at first, but once you hold it your eyes catch it after a few seconds.

In that case it's a phenomenal find! Given that these were originally produced in the early 2000s (I think), I'm surprised the majority I've seen have been so well maintained.

I'm really astounded by the size of the giant Meka Kun I just got. Before ordering it I tried to find images online that would give me some idea of how large it is. I wasn't able to find anything so here are a couple of pictures of my recent acquisition next to a normal sized Skull Kun in case anyone else is also curious. Though I must say it's difficult to fully capture its girth in a picture.

@Bill Very nice!!! I’ve yet to pull the trigger on the Meka Kun myself, mainly because of shipping trepidation, which I know I shouldn't have. But I’ve seen the pair in person before, and they’re so awesome. Even more so if you can manage the two tower omake that come with ‘em!

How’s about some Frankenberry Skull Kun action?! I’m so happy they finally released a version that pays homage to the Skull Kun’s main influence, Frankenberry! The pink in the skull and bones is a little more subtle than I’d like, but it still translates just fine!

This one I’ll wager will be something of controversy here, solely based on its aesthetic nature, despite who it’s made by, and who this particular version is associated with, which are the two reasons why I’m bringin’ it here. So I’ll keep it hidden in a spoiler. Produced by Medicom, in collaboration with old as shit clothing brand Stussy, the Peace and Prosperity figure debuted I think in 2004. This particular version, I have absolutely *zero* information on. I came across it on YJA while perusing the “Bounty Hunter” search results. I do appreciate street figures, and I’ve been a very minimal Stussy fan in the past, but this having the BxH logo printed really did convince me that I wanted it. And it’s even a legitimate print of a shirt they’ve released. I’d like to think this was somehow a strange off shoot release of small numbers that were just promotional tools, rather than an official, collaborative release. But as I mentioned, I know nothing about it, other than I like it, and that I own it.

First time I have seen this. Like skull kuns and skull kun and ko lovers there have been a lot of bootleg BXH figures in the past. Whilst I am not saying this is a boot, the choice of the Toxic Avenger logo does seem an odd 4 way collab, but then again that isn’t unheard of with Harajuku brands from which this figure was a part of. Circa 2004 BXH didn’t have an online presence releasing photos, the only source was the magazines like Boon, Streetjack etc. Hikaru had a column in Cool Trans where he would post stuff. So in summary, a fab piece just a bit suspicious. Have you tried asking BxH on Instagram if it is real? You could also message a guy called Paul Mittleman on Instagram who was running Stussy at this time. Look forward to an update.

I also recall picking up a couple of Stussy sets back in the day and having 'em bounced off fleaBay when I tried to resell, after complaints from Stussy's legal representation that they were bootlegs (unsure how they could tell from a half dozen half-assed pics, but they seemed pretty certain).

@Bounch For what it’s worth, it still has everything else that’s printed on the originals on back, like the “1” on the shirt, and the Stussy logo on the back pocket. This is only the second time I’ve seen this particular version on YJA(the first one sold), or at all, and the paint, size and all isn’t what I’d consider to be bootleg standards. But I have since reading your response messaged BxH’s page, but I don’t expect a reply.

Collection photo dump. I haven’t added to this since the Demeru Kun and could really do with chasing down some of the collab figures like BDP Kid and the Balzac colourways etc one day (ie when I have some money).

Fantastic bunches. I’m likin’ the Amos Toy sprinkled in every bit around, as well. I have a couple Leon figures, the Stussy/Nike version and the black tee Silly Thing release, and I like ‘em both quite a bit. I really gotta get a focus in on the Kaibutsu sets, but they’re always so damned expensive!
