This is a database of all reproductions of Daikyo, I.K.B., Miura Toy and Yonezawa vinyls by Hukkokudo or its affiliates. With some exceptions, only figures made available to the public upon release are included in this database (e.g., it does not include all paint samples or prototypes). Images of the database items can be found in my flickr album here: https://www.flickr.com/gp/44878893@N00/j0s6JT The images are generally in the release order indicated in the database. Special characters in the database: ?? means that the information is not known. ... means that there was a long break between the two releases, possibly indicating missing entries. Please PM me with any corrections, if you know any of the missing details, or if you would like to contribute images. Thanks also to kichigai, and all of the other board members and collectors that have shared information and photographs on these figures over the years.
Thanks Daniel. This is perfect, and also has the perfect reasoning behind it. I had/have also one of these I was building behind the scenes, but yours appears entirely comprehensive. About time we got it all in B&W. Love this idea, and your efforts. If I can spot any areas to contribute (I know of some one offs, etc., of toys I have seen through the years) I am all too happy to do so.
I really do firstly have to say that I very much appreciate the dedication to Chris. I was introduced to Hukkokudo by way of collecting Target Earth, but Lixx really did open my eyes to not only to multiple sculpts, but to the fact that they’d originally come from Yonezawa and Daikyo. Secondly, Daniel, this list is mind boggling - ly vast and comprehensive. I can only imagine how much time was spent putting this together through what’d I’d assume is hours of research and translating. So thank you, thank you for your efforts, simply for the sake of bringing information to the space. It’d seriously be a GREAT feat and goal reached for me to be able put together a visual “mook” of sorts with just photos of each release and its particular release info in the corner.
This is the "real" Skullbrain, and the only reason I still come on here. Thank you kindly Daniel, I wish only that Chris could still be a part of this conversation. Still waiting on a reply from Mr. Sato on the questions we were asking, but off the top of my head the one I would add is the clear brown UCHUU GENJIN. I have seen them but have no idea when/where it came out. Do you know this version? Oh and the darker clear orange Hedoran 3 with only the black eyes painted. I think is came out/was made same time as clear orange Zagora, the tone is same. I have been pulling together photos so we can at least have some references to ponder over as well. Would like to see some of the other ones you have listed. I have a stack of header cards, but my scanner died so I have to try and see if I can mail them to someone that can scan them to add here. Even though these are reproduction of early species, it's so very interesting that so many variations (all on point) have been done, which were never in the vintage era.
Thank you for doing this, akum6n. We need to figure out some way of making sure these threads are backed up, too.
Thanks for all of the responses and comments. Sorry if I didn't make the link noticeable, but I posted all of the images in my files of in a flickr album, which is linked at the top of my post. Most of them are from other sources. Also, I did not want to finalize the images until I am able to tie down more of the release dates, if that makes sense. @ultrakaiju Thanks; if you can see anything to add, please let me know. @kichigai I don't know if I have seen the clear brown Uchuu Genjin. Same for the darker clear orange Hedoro 3- if you have a photo, that would be great. It seems like there are a few clear orange versions of No. 3, but I can't tell what was an actual production item vs. paint sample at this point. I'm not sure if it was contemporaneous with the clear orange Zagora, as that one came out in mid-2007, and everything I have seen points to Hedoro 3 starting production in late 2008 (with the clear versions coming out last).
"With the cooperation of many companies" answers a lot for me. I'd always wondered if these repros were done out of pure fandom and risk, and also wondered why more weren't made. But knowing it was a collaborative effort with, what I'd have to assume were, the mold keepers/artists, it does seem like more of a selective process for what was brought back into production.
Question for anyone with the Yonezawa repros: is there any reference to Yonezawa on the header or foot of the toy?
1st release: 11/XX/2008 / Mail-order - Red vinyl / dark green, white and black spray The anonymous doner strikes again.
I had a few more to add to the list. I know there are a ton of Zagoran variants, but a couple which I don't think have been captured on the list (sorry, don't have release dates for these): - Yellow base, red chest w/ green spray, blue eye - Yellow base, grey-black sprays w/ green hands and feet, blue eye - Yellow base, grey sprays w/ red chest, silver eye - Yellow base, heavy black spray, silver eye - Yellow base, red, green, and gold sprays, gold(?) eye - Grey/black base, brown and green spray, light blue eye - Red-brown base, blue and silver spray and chest, gold eye - Red-brown base, gold and green spray and chest, blue eye More to come I am sure. I think with many of these they might easily get accidentally mistaken for some of the other, quite similar, colourways. I don't know the edition numbers of these either. As I recall though, the clear orange (the one I had anyways) was marked out of 10 or so I think; but I'd have to confirm that. NOTE: The toys pictured are not mine, and hence not for sale, so please don't msg me about that.
@ultrakaiju Thanks for posting the photos of the Zagoras. From what I have seen and heard, those are most likely paint samples, with the exception of the one second to the left on the bottom row. I don't know every Hukko release at this point, and there are likely some that were 'secrets' or released at shows without photographic coverage, so it is possible that some of these were production items. But there was a large group of paint samples and prototypes sold through Mandarake about a year or so ago, and these seem to be the remains of that group. Generally speaking, I wanted to keep this database to confirmed production items only- primarily due to the fact that there are so many unproduced samples of Hukkokudo figures in circulation. Do you have a photo of the clear orange Zagora that you mention?
Ah, the GoHero release. I think that one was clear red, no? Kaiju-Taro had the painted and unpainted clear orange. If I recall, that was an open run.
Ah thanks, yep, keeping it to the standard releases certainly makes a ton of sense. I am just glad there is some way all these wonderful toys will be captured. And yes, you are right, the clear I was thinking of was indeed red vinyl, so must be the GoHero release. That was a slip-up on my part. I think I have a photo of it with the header somewhere, I'll peruse through what I have access to and post it here if I find one. There is a clear orange version too, though:
You're right, GoHero was clear red: http://omni-monster.blogspot.com/2007/07/go-hero-hukkokudo-zagora-exclusive.html
@ARB Most likely, it is an unpainted sample for the painted version. Somehow, a bunch of samples ended up with Mandarake recently, still in packaging; the tell often is the blue header, which was used on the later Hukkokudo releases.
