Man, that is one beautifully painted pile of doo doo. The blacked out eyes on these Buttercream releases are such an amazing contrast to the pastel colors. Congrats!

@coma21 and @chimmychazz had brought up to me, a conversation initiated by Mikee, that, he views the Unchiman as a sculpt that looks like it could easily exist in the realm of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That it could totally have been a toy sculpted after an actor in a suit, battling heroes amidst skyscrapers and bridges, but was the original creation of PK’s mind instead. I couldn’t agree more. I never really thought of it until he brought it to my attention, but the overall shape, stance, feel and look of Unichiman, as well as just about all of Paul’s creations, look like they could easily, and tastefully, be transitioned into a suit worn for battle on screen in a monster movie/show. Hopefully Mikee and/or Charlie can chime in with a bit more detail to their thought process. I didn’t at all want to detract from their conversation, but it did get me to shoot the Unchi once more!

So basically the idea started with Machine Gun Ghost. MGG has become my favorite Pk sculpt. While searching for the reasons why it dawned on me that he looked like he could easily be a monster of the week on Zyuranger or Mighty Morphin depending on your preference.
This got me thinking about how not only does this apply well to MGG but to
Unchiman as well. And with the lightning collection Hasbro line of Power Ranger figures the two worlds pair very well together.
This lead to me messaging Charlie and discussing how we feel that since the sofubi format is birthed from guys in rubber suits it’s odd how far the toys have drifted from that aside from vintage and repro vintage most sculpts like they lack that element of charm.
Feel free to chime in on this.
Also unrelated but I find it interesting that Super Sentai or ZyuRanger or any of those shows never really get mentioned or collected. Also why can’t I get soft vinyl Japanese versions of some of those monsters!?! Where’s the assist on that one? I would love an m1go Shellshock or King Sphinx
Anyway the bottomline is that I have yet another reason to covet and love Paul’s work.

You are seeing correctly to some level.
All my characters inhabit the same "production studio". Similar to how Tsubaraya rehashed parts of suits.
It all started when I was very young. Must have been 1977-78 I had this thick "Monster encyclopedia" with all the monsters from series to series. It was all in Japanese of course and I couldn't read it .Funny to look at now, I penciled in wrong translations for names when I tried to decipher. Most of the pages have fallen out as I strummed it to death as it was my "bible" (I still have it!). But constantly scanning the pics I noticed this pattern and similarities between the production companies. But overall it's the stage of my life most of the inspiration comes from. My 15 year old lizard brain is still very active and I'm glad some people still get it.

^ Yeah, the toku production house theme is plain as day in your ever growing family. With that in mind, I've always been reminded, however tangentially, of RedKing when I look at sweet Sally J, and I've more than once wanted to see you give 'er the ol' Aboras treatment.

"And Peter begat Gama K, as the Cicada Man begat Baltan, so too that Goji begat Gomess begat Jirass... Praise be upon them."

Quite enjoyable to read your account of your relationship to that sacred text. Thanks for taking the time to share the story.
