New production versions of the classic Monster File sculpts were sold at Super Festival 79. It's been years since we saw a release of these, outside of one-offs. Gumoz is quite nice... the colors and carapace pattern revisit some of the color schemes on its original releases, but with a much more complex paint scheme. I would have picked it up, but I have too many already. Most are still available on the Dream Rocket webstore as of this post.
I’d love to pick up a Kymuras, but there’s just not enough money in my bank account for all the wonderful toys I want.
Super Festival 80 release on April 28, 2019. Max Toy Company Baltan Seijin May 2019 release. Sculpted by Pico Pico. The figure was offer first to Max Toy Club Members with any not sold to be offer on MTC online shop. Unfortunately they sold out to club members.
The MTC version of Baltan was actually the 2nd release, I believe. There was a clear blue with yellow eyes sold at the last Super Festival in April (80?). A clear smoke vinyl version with yellow eyes was also just sold at Thailand Toy Expo. Very similar to the MTC version.
@akum6n Thanks for the correction. Fixed the above post. TTE version May 2019 release. Sorry everyong, I was not able to find a good picture of the TTE version other than the one below from Yo Miyamoto-san Twitter. Also why is Dream Rocket and Max Toy Company still a combined thread? I think each company deserves their own thread by now. Just my opinion.
^ There is a good photo on his Instagram of the TTE version. I didn't realize he had a Twitter account as well. Just wanted to note the other releases, since there are so many figures dropped by MTC Japan that are not covered at all by the news sites, and sometimes not even by MTC's various social media accounts. It's quite frustrating to attempt to keep track of their release catalog. For example, MTC Japan has been steadily releasing Tripasu figures (the one that was previously a collaboration with Cronic), but you only see them in the edges of group shots from Yo's Twitter or Instagram. I've asked Mark about it, but for some reason, they're not available for sale in the US (maybe they sell out?). On the Dream Rocket / Max Toy separate threads, we did try to split off Dream Rocket a few years ago: http://www.skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/dream-rocket-stuffs.31640/ It didn't really stick. Max Toy is hard because the words in the name are too short and only bring back search errors.
Yo had the Twitter account before Instagram. Oddly enough I forgot I have been following Yo on Instagram. But some how missed some of the posts as I was not paying attention. For the sake of archiving both clear grey/black either with yellow eyes or red eyes were offer on May 2nd. But Thailand being ahead of the U.S. would make it's release second before the Max Toy Club offer.
Thanks. Good math-ing. EDIT: For anyone interested, the accounts we reference above are @quackmaxx on both Twitter and Instagram.
New character/sculpt from Dream Rocket: Appun. Relatively low piece count, but clever design. This may be sometimes forgotten, but Yajima-san is quite good at incorporating action features into his figures, beyond simple articulation points. Photo via sofvi.tokyo.
Really smart how the head can bobble around. After seeing it in motion on his profile I have to find one.
FYI Mark has a clear blue version of this Baltan available now on his website for those of us that are stateside.
Might as well throw this version in here, too: From the public offerings department over on their site. Gone but not forgotten.
Yeah Pico Pico is killing it on all these new sculpts. I’m bummed I missed the Fireman clear red release.
Some really talented artists came together for Max Toy's online Sofubi Man custom show, and this custom from Sunguts was the absolute peak for me. Wildly inventive. He took what I'd call one of the sweetest, most wholesome toys I own, and made it something quietly horrific. The face beneath the mask, the Craftsman from Hell: He's pulling his own goddamn head! A mask of flesh!
Oooh boy that chibi shin goji is perfection! I wish "one day license" didn't equal mostly unobtainable.
