Looks like all the Devilman, Mazinger and Getter Robo stuff is spread out across many threads when it comes to toys.

Thought it would be nice if there was a general place to post anything related to Go Nagai and kick it off the most exciting news I have had all week.

Devilman animated movie to be released this year.

Cyborg 009 vs Devilman movie also to be released this year.

Really looking forward to both of these especially a new animated adaptation of the original story. I dont think they will be able to squeeze the story very well into a single movie so I hope it will be in at least two parts.

If these are good and it becomes a regular thing I'm gonna be one happy Devilman fan.

As long as this is not as much of a letdown as the Live action film was I think we will be okay.

In other devilman news, and most likely late to the party on this one..

So, to celebrate Hellboy's somewhat delayed release in Japan, Go Nagai and Mike Mignola teamed up to do an interesting promo piece bridging the world of Devilman and Hellboy. Here is as good a place as any to share it:

That's right, it's the world mashup you never knew existed, but now [possibly] can't live without. :0 A fairly interesting piece of contemplative art, and certainly epic and grand, but even more appealing [to me], is the pairing envisioned in Mignola's classic moody stylings:

    :)

    H/T to ANN.

Forgot I started this thread and forgot to talk about how much I loved Devilman: Crybaby. I guess most have seen but anyone end up not enjoying it? I would love to hear some thoughts from old heads on here.

    That mashup looks great.

It’s a real treat to see how two very different artists render each other’s characters.

The Mignola drawing is really nice

Okay, apologies for going back to toy-related stuff for a moment, but with all the amazing things Medicom has done with their reissues of the Bandai Devilman figure - I actually like them all, and think probably they only suffer by having so many good versions out there - I was sort of surprised by the recent jumbo release:

    JAC デビルマン
    会場販売価格:¥54,000
    全高:約600mm

    こちらもビッグな「JUMBO ARTIST MONSTERS」通称「JAM」の新作!
    独自路線爆走中のアートユニット・MAMESの踊り猫が登場!
    Source

Not that it is terrible by any standard, I just think, if you are going to put in all that effort (and costs) to make such a massive toy, I dunno, give me something a little special ya know? This is just a 'fine' toy, at least from what I can tell. Which is in itself a little disappointing, especially when shelling out that kind of money. It basically just looks like an upsized version of the Medicom superhero line, which was already overpriced and sort of meh, and, if one is to judge it from the prices on them in the US, a sort of failure. I mean, I don't necessarily need it to be jumbo machinder style (although, let's be honest, how cool would that be?!), but give me a little something extra. Heck, at the very least I think they really missed an ideal opportunity here to give you a removable mask, which even their standard version has. And really, no wings is sort of calling for a frowny face on its own. It does sort of have that vintage jumbo/450 look, so I will grant them some points there; but not so much that this is channeling a clear homage.

Well, I just wanted to share it here to see if anyone had/has other thoughts. [Or maybe someone is going to get one, in which case, do report, please.] All in all, it's a cool toy, and having a big guy would be a nice shelf filler, but with so many jumbos coming out these days, I question whether this is really that impressive or just a large action figure (albeit in soft vinyl).

@ultrakaiju I have to agree, and thank you for sharing this posting I got an email about it , but could not get more info, till i saw your posting

I saw this toy i thought it fits with the vintage line, which is what i like collecting. Although i think it is a cool sculpt, I think it needs something more aside from its large size for me to really want to get this toy. for example, I did get the Shelter bank version which is also large (although not as large) and it comes with a mask and wings and it fits with my vintage line. so didn't think to much about it and put my order for it. I don't know. just a thought.

Ah well that is good to hear. I look forward to being able to get a firsthand report then.

It does sort of have that vintage look, and certainly has the 'chunk' of the larger figures as I mentioned (even beefed up on the legs I would say, owing to the needed stability). I think the Shelterbank is a very apt analogue actually, and was going to bring that one up. It has an lot of character and uniqueness to it, certainly, and is a fine counterpoint to this version. To give them some benefit of the doubt, I would imagine/hope that in the design phase they tried to do some type of wing, but because of the size and heft of this sort of jumbo, getting that balance might have been a challenge. Still though, even the cheap plastic wings like on the other versions would have been something.

Agree, I know these days there has been several jumbo beasts that have produce some good quality stuff, for example the astroboy and maziger by secret base are one of the best examples of this: size, vintage fit, and so on. but the original sale price point is much less than this devilman...which truth to be told it what stops me from even thinking getting this devilman....I would not be surprise if the cost is cos is very low run, sigh!!!! anyways great talk and cool toys

@ultrakaiju Steve Thank you for bringing the theme of this new Devilman figure to this thread, a few days ago I had already published a photo of this figure in the Medicom thread, I really did not know much about the figure when making the publication, by causality I found the photograph at a YJP auction and the seller had started the auction price at ¥ 90,000, how far the figure was never sold. Days later I learned that the figure had been sold in the last WF of Japan.
Now what I think of the figure? 1) in general I like the sculpture and obviously the most striking is the size, 2) I like the idea that it was more similar to the Dog face, because now that I see the figure in more detail it looks more to the standard size version of Marmit, 3) like Steve saids, some wings would be great, but that they were made of a rigid material to prevent them from becoming flaccid as in the standard version of Medicom, 4) finally the price, in spite of the fact that the piece attracts me in general, I think the price is something excessive even for a figure of this size, for me a fair price for this piece should be in the range between ¥ 35,000 and ¥ 40,000.

Go Nagai thread! Bring it on. The first Devilman OVA was probably my first Japanese anything and changed my life:

I prefer gritty Devilman as it’s more in line with the original manga. Could never get into his toku styled “DEBIRUUUUU” days.

This action figure by Medicom (sorry not vinyl) is pretty impressive. I’ll seek it out someday:

And let’s broaden the topic beyond Devilman. Anyone into Mazinger and the like? I get the odd jumbo here and there and look to pick up a Grendizer next time I’m in Japan.
