Up to y’all but for me it hits it’s stride after the first couple of episodes (but I love it all). It’s surprisingly a dark show and gets progressively more grim. Not only that but the world and lore of Dark Crystal is expanded upon and treated with respect. Originally it was planned to have CGI Gelfings thrown into the mix but instead (thank God) we were treated to proper puppets all the way through. Same with the Skesis. They look fucking amazing. Also, Deet might be the most pure and cutest character I’ve seen in fiction for like ... ever? If you’ve made up your mind going into it to be overly critical than more power to you but for me it’s a fan’s wet dream.

I can appreciate this sentiment yet Star Wars continues to be popular amongst board members and the Marvel film thread has at least 10 more pages to it than the Ultraman and Toku threads do.

I gave the new Dark Crystal 15 minutes and I didn't connect with it, either. That beginning with that big slug of exposition being poured down your throat, the videogame-style presentation of the different Gelfling glyphs across the land juxtaposed with the traditional puppet work, even with the painstaking work of re-creating the look, none of it felt like the original movie to me.

I saw The Dark Crystal in the theater and loved it. It was strange and sad, and I think I might have enjoyed it even more if it was presented as originally intended, with the various races speaking their own made-up languages and English subtitles. I know I only watched a tiny bit of this new series but that small taste felt a little too fun and playful, which didn't feel quite right to me.

This may be a new aspect of my curmudgeonliness but I'm not connecting with any "new old stuff" these days. I grew up on Star Trek, enjoyed pretty much everything through the 1990s. I don't want any more of it, and I don't see the point of someone trying to make more. When it comes to comics, I cut my teeth on X-Men. I don't want to see any more movies or TV shows made out of that, either. The old stuff was good. That's enough.

If you added all those threads together they're not a fraction of the length of the NagNagNag thread.

I see that thread as the confined shitposting general.

Agree... same thing. I still go to Star Wars movies, often out of some weird sense of obligation, and take varying levels of enjoyment in them... but at least that franchise's theme of rebellion against a fascist regime was laid 42 years ago (even if its more exploitable by those producing the franchise at the current moment in history).

Marvel movies bore the living shit out of me, and outside of the two Guardians flicks (which I find to be very fun and Kirbyistically beautiful to look at), I stopped seeing them after the first Avengers movie, seven years ago.

    Yes. All of this.

Another thing that bothered me in that first ep were a couple f/x moments that seemed to me to fall into a range of Lovecraftian squick you would not expect in a Dark Crystal show, but which struck me as perfectly calibrated visual overtures to the portion of the Stranger Things audience that might not be predisposed to loving a Dark Crystal reboot (ie, younglings). The phrase "corporate synergy" actually popped up in my head and made me feel barfy.

I was about to post the same thing . . . I'm not a huge fan of the whole Middle Earth 'I'm a troll fol-de-rol' bollocks, but Carnival Row has a nice gritty feel with some bleak real-world undercurrents.

Episode 4 of Wu Tang: An American saga was a filler episode, with no real progression to the story in my eyes.

Haven’t watched an episode yet but I imagine even a filler full of Wu Tang is fun.

Watched all of it, but did not find Carnival Row at all entertaining.

I thought the same. Not a bad episode, just didn’t do anything for me outside of some casual drama and conflict. I was originally told they were droppin’ three episodes every Wednesday, but I’m glad to see it’s only the one. More to look forward to!

I also found out ODB is bein’ played by his son, which explains the uncanny and spot on representation. I honestly don’t know the real name of a single Wu member, but I started to piece together who’s who pretty early on, but still wondering on some. I am thoroughly enjoyin’ it so far, though.

Joey Badass is going to play Inspectah Deck. That’s pretty wild.

I've seen a lot of praise for El Camino on social media. Looks like it continues Gilligan's tradition of churning out quality television!

    I'll be tuning in tonight.

Had every intention of skipping Creepshow, diminishing returns of nostalgiafests being what they are, but I just learned that Rob Schrab directed the first installment of episode 2. I'm in for at least that long, we'll see about the rest. Anyone having a look?

    ^ Guess not.

Netflix just dropped a series based on Brian Ralph's superlatively superb survival epic, Daybreak. I'm a little afraid to find out what they've done with it.

I watched it this last week. I really liked it, but never read the book. Really fun, pretty smart and at times rather funny. Hoping for a second season but it can live as one.

I'm watching it and it's decent. As with most "anthologies" some stories are stronger than others, and the digital look can be off-putting at times, but it's fun.

We started watching “living with yourself” on Netflix. It reminds me a little of “multiplicity”.
