@themoog looks like they've got this weird creature for sale at vintage vinyl club. Created by don'tcryinthemorning. Strange name. This person creates some weird looking creatures.

Arrgh, honestly, I find that one more frustrating in that - while not particularly as fugly as others in this thread - it is so meaninglessness. I mean, in all honesty, what could the possible purpose be that the 'artist' proposes for the Méliès connection? I only see this as pointless bandwagon jumping at its worst, executed incredibly poorly and haphazardly. This toy looks like it was bashed together in an afternoon of design, which a lot of these might be anyways, but it's like a horrible mashup done from some doodle on paper by a kid during a boring English class who just threw stuff together from other bits of stuff he had in his current pop culture frame of reference. Boooo! It's lack of imagination taken to the extreme. I am not attacking this person's art or aesthetic or anything, but why does this need to be a toy? who is investing the money to support this? are other vinyl toys not being pulled because this is taking up the already limited time makers have? And just what is with those colours? Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh! It is not fugly by just so irksome to me that something like this is getting made and part of the 'sofubi' hobby these days. I am just so confused and disappointed.

You know what? Strike all that, I've changed my mind and want one. Take my money you mystery maker.

Its two Chinese guys. On the surface they appear to be making stuff a bit more unusual for this new breed of sofubi maker, but the more i looked the more it seems derivative of other toy makers stuff. They also favor the guest 'technicolor vomit' paint work.

Also, for a shop called 'Vintage Vinyl Club' it appears to have zero Vintage stuff. The bulk of their stock seems to be gaudily painted Planet X toys.

How about this elaborate Nag rip off? Its certainly something.

No, don't you get it, we are not supposed to know.

But actually yeah, I have already been so frustrated by releases through the 'Vintage Vinyl Club' for just that reason. I am glad that it isn't just me that finds it so grating. Talk about blatant BS. [I mean, at least offer me the cheesy pleasure of Mr. Astley.] I am going to start a new group for the Nag appreciation club and fill it with nothing but picks of heavily played with Bullmarks - possibly interspersed with some Star Wars, Micronauts, BSG, and whatever else I randomly fancy.

I'm guessing this is the original head but it wasn't 'weird' enough:

Wait, what is that? Is that A SILVER PENIS?
Have to say, looking through Don't cry in the morning's FB photos, even though a lot of it reminds me of other makers toys, at least im not bored. They're having fun with the medium and I like their stuff way more than other Chinese sofubi I could mention.

Vintage Vinyl Club seems to be some kind of front for the majority of crap coming out of China. The fixtures in their store are so over the top, I'm sure there's some VVC money going into production for some of these makers. Heck - I wouldn't be surprised if VVC fabricated some brand names just to make it look like they have a large range of "exclusive" makers.

I think DCITM are a man and woman team, I was incorrect calling them guys. Anyway, it looks like the human head was intended for a different toy but they plonked it on the dino body instead. Ta Da! Instant fugly.

Oh my, I think it's getting worse. At least the other one had cheesy five-and-dime/candy stand appeal, I could have seen it as a cheap bootleg rack filler, this one though is definitely trying too hard to appeal to all those new vinyl chasers.

Funny of him to say, considering the likelihood that Shig laughs at his customers all the way to the bank

I’d be reluctant to criticise this in case it’s the work of someone’s 8 year old child. Which if it is then ‘well done’ to that kid, if you keep practicing, one day you could do something great

I totally agree. I almost bought the 2-headed Creep but it was just lacking in that extra piece of inspiration that would have elevated it.
I did however, buy the green gitd Creepy Giant. I can't believe no-on'e mentioned it's a homage to John Carpenters The Thing. It has the 2 stretched out heads, the clawed hand and the tentacles that all appear in Rob Bottins special effects.

In my mind this feels more like a deluxe figure from something like The Inhumanoids, or the Rancor monster from the Kenner SW line.

Yeah, i noticed that but i've been slagging off planet x so much i thought i'd give it a rest before people who like them get annoyed with me. To be honest it just seems par for the course, a pastiche of other people's ideas like most of their stuff.

I'd like to chime in here and say I'm also soooooo tired of people using the moon man or w/e imagery. At this point it's beyond played out.

You don't like it when people drag your reputation through the trash based on speculation, maybe you should think before you post stuff about others in this same way.

Not that I love or support VVC. I just see them as a legitimate business despite what toys or garbage they have. It seems easier for them to get Chinese producers of vinyl because of their location. Just like shows in the US tend to have US toy producers.

Yeah, I gotta agree. I bought two different toys from them and had to go back and forth about which versions I wanted and they couldn’t have been nicer to me. They gave me two toys I REALLY wanted at a friendly price and shipped for fairly cheap. They were very polite and well spoken as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to do business with them again!
